I got my son a 1/10 off road buggy for christmas (not a tamiya ). He has an 1800mah nimh battery and i bought him a spare 2000mah so he can have more driving time with it. The 1800 lasts 10 minutes and the 2000 lasts about 11 or 12 minutes. I am thinking of maybe getting a 3000+ mah battery for him but i dont know if he will get a great deal more driving time with it. My tamiya cars used to last for nearly half an hour before i had to charge the battery.I cant remember what batteries i was using but i know they wont have been expensive. The only difference i can think of is my old cars used seperate batteries for the receiver and my sons car has the new style esc with bec. I have 2 questions 1) Does the receiver drain much power from the battery? 2)Will the old style receiver battery pack work ok with an esc that has bec?

I dont know why they dont just sell the db01r with 1 of the body kits.Just add a little more on the price. If the durga body is more popular they should sell it with that.Atleast if the buyer wants a baldre body he/she can still use the car while he trys to get hold of 1. I personally want a baldre body kit but i would gladdly pay another £20 - £30 on top of the price of the db01r if it came with either body kits.Tamiya would sell loads more of these cars i am sure.

I had a quick look on e bay and you can get Tamiya paint on there from £3.95 + £1.95 For a 100ml tin. If you cant find the colour you want on there it might be worth sending the seller a message to see if he has it in stock or even get it for you.

Did all 3 bodies come supplied with your db01r or did you buy them?
-
Nice pictures. The Durga does look amazing I will most likely be getting the Baldre body shell because i do preffer it slightly and it seems to be more available to buy.I havnt found anywhere that sells the Durga body kit yet.

Goldstarstockists.net have the balsre body kit for £24.49aswell so there is another option for me.I am like a big kid at the moment had a bit to drink tonight and getting very excited about getting my new toy.

I checked on fusion hobbies web site for the baldre body kit and they have it for £25.50.I pressume they have it in stock( i hope)i might call them in the morning to make sure.

Thanks it does make sense for me to buy the db01 r as i will spend a lot of money upgrading the standard car but do you know if anywhere supplies the body shells because as far as i know the db01r dosnt come with 1. Also thanks Alveraz them reviews are brilliant very detailed.

I will have to have a look at the df03 ms. I was looking at a Db01r on e-bay i think they go for just under 200 quid wich sounds quite expensive but like stu22 says really good upgrades.Only thing with it is i dont think it comes with a body and i dont know if they can be bought seperately.Looking like the Db01 is going to be the car i will order. All of you have been a great help thanks guys.

When i get payed in a few weeks iam going to order my 1st r/c car in nearly 20 years. Up until a couple of days ago i was definately going to get a DB01 but i do like the look of the DF03 cars especially the DI. The 1 thing that still plays on my mind with the Db01 is the fact its belt driven.Should this put me off? Can any owners of these cars let me know how good or bad these cars to help me decide.
-
Thanks Mark thats good to know as it is probably going to be a DF03 or a DB01 that i will be upgrading to brushless.
-
ok go easy with me. When you say limited gearing ratios do you mean limited to what pinion gear you can use for a particular car.
-
Is a motor that ends .5 better for a 4 wheel drive off road racing car? If so why and what if its an off road car that is used a lot on tarmac? Like Knotty i am all new to this and i am still a bit confused with all the options with brushless motors. This site is a big help though.

I had a look on e bay earlyer as i am looking at getting a couple of batteries soon. At the moment on ebay a 3300mah Vapextech is just under 15 quid delivered and a 4300mah is just over 21quid delivered. There is plenty of other much cheaper batteries on e bay but quite a few people have recomended Vapextech.

Tamiya Monkey I am glad you asked this question as i will soon be wanting to join a club with a race track. I live in Teesside so i would prefer somewhere close to home but i work in York so a club somewhere around York would do for me.

My son has 4 pretty new nimh batteries i think the biggest being 3800 mah.So when the time comes when i upgrade my motor i will test it out with this battery and if i find it only lasts for a short time i might look at getting a lipo battery.I would preffer to stick with nimh batteries if possible but i will have to see what happens.

My vote goes to the boomerang although i have never owned 1 or drove 1 i love the look and will be buying a re re boomerang later this year. I love the hornet and havnt driven 1 for about 20 years when i last owned 1 but from what i remember it was great fun to drive. The fact the boomerang is 4 wheel drive gives it the edge for me.
-
If i was you i would swap the servos over and give it a test.If the steering problem is solved then it prooves that the servo is faulty.Be careful when testing it though as the faulty servo will now be operating the power to the motor.
-
That has made things a lot clearer for me.Thanks Mighty Flex. So if i decide to go for a 9t motor for instance and stick with a 7.2v battery what mah rating battery would be adequate to give me a decent amount time racing without it going flat quickly.

I am only just getting back into r/c cars again since i was about 17. I had a hornet,a striker and an avante. These 3 cars were raced a lot against my friends cars. All my friends had atleast 1 tamiya car and we all had a selection of crystals so we could race against each other. We used to design and build our own courses on and off road.In my opinion these cars are built for racing not looking at. I am going to buy a db01 and i hope i can find a reasonably local club so i can race it.I dont want to just drive it around the park showing off or sit looking at it in the house.
-
I am probably getting a bit ahead of myself as i havnt even ordered my 1st car yet (probably a db01). But when the time comes to upgrade the motor i dont have a clue what things mean like 9t or 5.5t.Is the lower the number the faster the motor? Also buying the motor with a suitable brushless esc is a bit confusing aswell. What is better a 60amp or 35amp?Does the 60amp drain the battery faster? Its all a bit foreign to me at the moment.Any explanation would be helpful.

Thanks tamiya monkey i will have a look at model sport. Even with a water resistant esc i will still encourage my son to keep away from puddles and deep snow. -

Had a good look on the net for m-tronik escs with not much luck.I found a few on e bay but they wernt cheap all over £60 wich is more than i want to spend on my sons car wich was only £90. Can anyone recomend a website that sell mtronik stuff so i can have a look. -

My sons car isnt a tamiya but i am sure the esc isnt a waterproof 1 so i will look at getting an m-tronics waterproof esc just to be safe. I think my brother used to cover the servos and receiver with small balloons when we were kids and i used to use small bags with cables ties. Just wondering now is there a waterproof on/off switch available out there?
