Not after a minter but a good runner i guess or one that needs a bit of work but im not talking a resto-some of us work 7 days!!. Paypal is waiting! Or swapsies ebay item 290488875633
  6. Hi no this is electroplating. The plastic has to go through a few processes to make it a conductor for the chrome to adhere to it.
  7. I dont think i could pinpoint an exact year but for me it started in sept 84 i believe. A second hand willy bought from otley model shop(now modelsportuk). I adored it and broke the steering horn the very first day i got it with my knee while laying next to it in ore! I then cried!! The willy lasted a good few years then....god knows where it went. Next was a falcon probably 86 bought second hand again. Then i had the kyosho ultima pro which i built on my own and it fell apart pretty much everytime i took it out. Then the 90's struck,girls,beer,clothes...all down hill. Id love to relive the mid 80's. Ive since bought several real cars from that era namely series 1 rs turbos, fiesta XR2,Cavalier SRI etc etc. Unforunately the world has gone mad now and "they dont make things like they used to lad"!!
  8. You dont see many about-they are all Mk2's. Is there a reason for this? Was the Mk2 better or was there problems with the Mk1? Im asking because i have a brand new boxed Mk1 set and was basically wondering if its worth anything. Ive had handfulls of old tamiya models-all with mk2 handsets and this is the 1st mk1 ive come across....or is it just theyve all bypassed me?
  9. I was thinking of putting my scorcher on ebay. Its complete-needs a repaint, clean and re wire. Then as prices are fairly low i thought about breaking it.....will this upset the tamiya community? Its very original and has the box.
  10. Thanks for your reply henk. Im looking forward to getting going. Im hoping to do some stuff for the guys on here. we'll see!
  11. Im about to buy a plating setup and do some training. I know various parts are available on the bay that are plated. Is there a general interest in the tamiya world to have this done? Im on various other forums too mainly to do with "real" cars but would like feedback on it. Im going to do plastics etc(i.e non conducting materials which are much harder to plate). Feedback gratefully recieved. Ive got a few jobs in for ipod refurbs already and have a few tamiya parts of my own to do!
  12. As above if anyone has these to almost complete my truck! proper driver and wheels. As for rear cage originals or shiny ones as i can swap and change with my scorcher! cheers reply to tech.auto@live.com im always good for paypal or local cash if in kent! thanks!
  13. some more pictures here. ive removed wheels and given it a sponge down and then a waxing with meguiars tech wax. Ive found 3 faults with it....couple of the wheels have small cracks, the rear cage has slight damage and the rear well nut appears to have the nut missing so the SRB is a bit loose. Its cleaned up really well im so happy with it. I think tomorrow when there is less alcohol in my stream ill charge one of my batteries and give it a scud around the house. The photos are a bit cack sorry. Im such a proud daddy! especially for 20 quid!!
  14. its my birthday today too. im so pleased. its in much better condition than my scorcher and i paid over £200 less for it! Anyone got a driver for sale for it??
  15. It was cold this morning-not pleasant. Me and a friend were just about to give up when i spotted an acoms ap227 box. a closer look revealed an f150 in a dusty state. £20 exchanged hands ans a closer inspection reveals it hardly been used and is still dusty from last time it was out 20 years or so ago. Complete except for driver and under the SRB its like brand new. Still has white grease on steering linkage. Here is a picture of it now ill post more once its cleaned up. Very happy with my £20 purchase!
  16. Ive just bought an original 99% complete scorcher with box and brand new boxed acoms ap227 for 250 quid. I was thinkin of buying a RR one but opted for orig and i believe i paid the right money. Ive been in and out of tamiya for 25 years and love the early stuff(less plastic the better). I feel the RR is a good thing as the younger generation wanting to get into the hobby have the choice of modern or retro tamiya vehicles. The retro will give them a different insight into the general workings of vehicles as they are more realistic IMO. I wouldnt rule out owning a RR scorcher and think the new and old would look superb nose to nose in a show cabinet. Explaining the difference of 30 years and subtle changes might not be to everyones taste who comments on the cars though! Along with my house music DJ career im sure non of my associates would be the least bit interested.....unlike me!!
  17. Hmmm..... the mirrors. Thats all i need too for a complete original. Thing is you pay up to 30 quid for a set and they dont really put up the value of the model itself! Id like to know the difference too but im sure a lot of restorers will now opt for RR ones as the orig are not really cost effective. Would love feedback on this.
  18. As above a nice set of stainless or alloy box art bumpers and if anyone has some UJs not the brass type. Many thanks
  19. Cheers for that. I haven't started to try remove it yet but i think someone else has had a go. So gentle heat followed by a gentle cleanse is prob the answer!
  20. I picked up my scorcher yesterday just off the A1 in a layby! Its all good a very tidy car with brand new acoms ap 227 all boxed, clean shell(will be stripping and given fresh paint) and a good hand full of brand new spares not yet fitted. The worst thing is the box. Its obviously been stored away for long time and to keep the lid on the box its had parcel tape applied in 4 places many moons ago. Ive been told to try hair dryer,if not then try to freeze it somehow and try that. All else fails ive got some tricoethylene in the form of tyre cleaning solution. im sure that would remove the the outer but its the glue without damaging the box im worried about. Nightmare! Any help very appreciated!
  21. Im due to go on an AA assessment day next week for employment as a roadside technician. I was just trying to find out what the assessment day entails!?
  22. I thought about the re release but didnt know if they'd changed things significantly enough so parts wouldnt be interchangable without a bit of grief involved!
  23. Thank you very much. Would you advise the use of a new blitzer set(i think they are slightly tinted??) or can i get repros quite easily?
  24. Hi guys im not new to the forum really. I joined about 4 years ago but since have shut down e mail accounts etc so re joined and bought a scorcher-my childhood dream. I believe its a good time to buy at the mo prices seem to have dropped. Anyway back on topic my scorcher has very yellowed headlights and windows-must be the sun. Is there anything i can do to bring back the clearness? Ive found blitzer parts that i could use but want to keep original as poss. Please dont shoot me down ive done a search and cant find anything on this. If there is a thread on it that someone could point me to id be grateful or any help very appreciated. Thanks karl
