Yeah. the re-issues are just a bit of fun from the past - unless theymean something special for you I'd avoid them. If the DB-01 is too expensive, consider the DF-03 (Dark Impact/Keen Hawk - 4WD) or DT-02 (Sand Viper/Desert Gator - 2WD)

I have a DF-03 and love it. A lot of people say that it's not very good and that it has a whole number of problems. However, I think it's good value for money, it drives and handles really well off-road and it looks cool - very important; spares are also easy and fairly cheap to source. The DB-01 might be better at the track but for bashing the 'fun' level must be pretty equal; and the DB-01 is much more expensive.

Piston Rods For 50519 And 50520 Cva Dampers
tundragumski replied to tundragumski's topic in General discussions
cheers - tamiyaclub has all the answers! how do you know this stuff? -
A simple question that probably only requires one person to answer: What piston rods (codes) do I need for Tamiya CVA Dampers 50519 (mini) and 50520 (short)? Cheers

I've just converted to Traxxas after one of my Tamiya connectors completely failed. Not that easy to solder if you don't have experience in soldering. The main problems I had were solder flowing over the limit line, and melting the rubber on the wires. Also a bit tricky to push the contact into the plastic housing. Anyway, all done and got easier and less messy towards the end (I did 8 connectors). Seem to work well - no difference in performance but they do at least work - unlike Tamiya's!
-
another connector question: Does it really matter whether you put the male or female connector on the ESC/Charger and/or the batteries? what's the norm? I think tamiya connectors have the male on the battery and female on the ESC/charger.
-
...and what's the best way to remove a tamiya connector without losing too much wire?
-
OK, so although I can really only afford to fix my tamiya connector, if I was going to replace them in the future: Seems like everyone has their favourites, but powerpoles or traxxis look good to me - which one of those 2 is best, cheapest and easiest?
-
If Tamiya connectors are so rubbish why are they still supplied on most new batteries, ESCs and chargers? I'm having trouble with one on a battery that is not making a good connections and keeps failing completely, until I wiggle it! I don't really want to change all my connectors as I don't have a soldering iron or any spare cash right now. Any ideas how i can fix my dodgy tamiya battery connector in the short term? (I'll consider changing them all when I'm no longer unemployed - which would be best; traxxas or deans?)

thanks - that makes sense.

...between Tamiya V and X parts (damper parts) number 50598 and 50950 They look exactly the same to me.

My Rising Fighter Is Much Faster Than My Df-03 - Why?
tundragumski replied to tundragumski's topic in General discussions
Yes, I have no doubt that the df-03 DI is a much better buggy and has far more potential. I guess to summarise then: with standard(ish) motors the 2wd dt-01 has more straight line speed and the 4wd df-03 handles better especially off road (but probably on-road too). However, the major difference is that the df-03 can be upgraded to go very quick and still handle well whereas the dt-01 would be a complete mess with a fast motor in it. Anyway, I got the dt-01 RF for my young son because it's a simple car and it was very cheap at the time. I opted for the df-03 over the db-01 because of my available budget too - I love them both equally (the DT-01 and DF-03 that is; not the DB-01 - don't have one of those, yet) -
A simple question really but I'd like some opinions please. Both completely standard except the rising fighter has ballraces and a sport tuned motor and the df-03 has a dirt tuned motor. On road the rising fighter wins by miles both in a straight line and around a track (love the bump steer too - makes it very exciting) Off road it's very close. The df-03 is much easier to control though. When I recently bought the df-03 I was expecting more, even with a standard 'out-of-the-box' set-up!

One of each is enough for me and my wallet!

Tamiya 27t Dirt Tuned Motor Question
tundragumski replied to tundragumski's topic in General discussions
sorry to drag this out but; I understand that different power motors require different gears but..... if I'm changing to a more powerful and higher rpm Superstock bz motor, do I need to increase (higher gear) or decrease (lower gear) the pinion size?
