My Super Champ - Looking to modernize it a little
THE HP FREAK replied to Chapel's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
HI!... Post up some vids outside when you get it running. -
HI!... I still have to fit a few more decals to the body and fix the rear spoiler. Previous owner cut it out wrong and had it mounted backwards.

Tamiya Rothman's Porsche 956 "1984"
THE HP FREAK replied to THE HP FREAK's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
HI!... This one is quite easy to do. I'm dreading doing my Tamiya Golf G2. 4 colours on that one. -
HI!... I want to get the Bigwig repo decals he has but they are wrong. I emailed him and sent him a high quality scan of my original Tamiya BigWig decals. He said he will be correcting the problem at the end of January. He told me if anyone see's mistakes in his decals to please contact hime so he can make the corrections. His current BigWig decals have the wrong drivers name, "Larry Lancaster" instead of "Levy Lancaster". His scoop stripe is red where it is supposed to be orange with a small red stripe off set to one side. His Pennzoil decals say "Self Lubrication" instead of Safe Lubrication. Has a slight white stripe between the red and orange on the large rainbow decal. The FACOM decal "hand" symbol is too small. Plus because he prints the colours on top of white he gets a slight white border around most og the letters.

Tamiya Rothman's Porsche 956 "1984"
THE HP FREAK replied to THE HP FREAK's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
HI!... Well I got the body cut out finally and the driver all painted up. Hopefully going to paint the body and sticker it in the near future. I had to order the Tamiya colour specific paint. None of the LHS's carry it in stock. -
Tamiya Rothman's Porsche 956 "1984"
THE HP FREAK replied to THE HP FREAK's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
HI!... Well I started to build the Rothman's Porsche 956 today. This is as far as I have got. I didn't like the wheels. They were too yellowed from age IMO so they are currently submerged, going the the whitening process. Sorry for the weird colour picks. I was having camera issues. Well I got the wheels all whitened. Hard to tell with the camera pics but it's like night and day. 10 times whiter. lol! -
HI!... I just recently obtained a NIB Rothman's Porsche 956. This one will be built but will spend the rest of it's life as a shelf queen. :cheer:

HI!... Well It's been a VERY long time since I have worked on this. A while back I ordered a set of RE-RE decals. But when they got here I realized I could only use half of them. So last week I ordered a reproduction set from *******. The ******* ones are not bad. From 1-10, 10 being Tamiya quality, I would give these a 7.5-8. So I ended up combining the two decal kits together to make one good one. Only a keen Tamiya eye will pick up that they are not originals. I still have to get a driver. I'm pretty sure I ordered one from ***** a while ago but can't find it. I'll order another one soon.

HI!... Well the new gear showed up so I started to build the gearbox. It went together pretty easy. Then when I went to mount it into the chassis I realized the previous owner who was drill happy decided to drill a million holes in the plastic support. So now the projects on hold again until the new one shows up. This is what I've got done so far : Well I got a good amount of work done on the Wild One today. I still need to get some vintage decals, a steering servo, and now a new driver. The other driver I had was a original one and it just crumbled in my hands. So I ordered a new one from ***** today. I re-installed the after market rear sway bar. I think this is pretty rare. I've never seen one before on the Wild One. I also polished the shock bodies.

HI!... Well digging through my RC stuff I came across a new WILD ONE complete diff gear and two new aluminum side bevel gears. lol Just got to get the main gear. Also here's some pics of the original chassis that the car came with when I bought it. Well new gearbox gear showed up from Team CRP this weekend. This is what I have been waiting for so I can start building this thing. As my luck as usual, the gear showed up damaged. A few teeth are ******* up and it has a huge stress crack in it. I contacted Team CRP and their mailing out a new replacement gear. I should have it by this weekend. Also some new parts showed up for this project. New roll cage and front bumper. :y:

HI!... I got a new body and driver for it. Got the Wild One body painted today. Still need to order some decals. I started to tear down the "WILD ONE" today. It's going to need a few things. I noticed that the previous owner butchered up the chassis a lot. Drilled holes everywhere.:S He also cut down all the body mount pedestals. So now I'm on the look out for a NIP chassis. That's going to be fun. Well I tore down the WILD ONE #2 a few days ago. Everything was going good until I got to the rear gearbox. Apparently the previous owner epoxied the diff gear together to make a "spool". They also drilled "lightening" holes in all the gears. So I ordered a new set of gears. I got new gear box cases and some other small parts. I also got a new chassis. It's a re-re chassis. Tried to get a vintage chassis but all that I could find wanted well over $100 for them. I got this one for $12. LOL! Looks identical physically except for the battery compartment cut out for a stick pack. Just found out that the main roll bars have had mounting brackets cut off of them so I need to order a set of those now as well. Here's a few pics :

HI!... I purchased another Tamiya "Wild One" a bit ago. It's about 90% complete but needs to be restored.
-
HI!... Well parts are all here. Just have to pop across the border to the US to get them on Saturday. I decided to De-anodize all the blue parts to go back to bare aluminum. I haven't decided yet but I might polish them, or just leave them like that. I think I'm going to custom build some aluminum battery holders. I already have some custom ones in there but I would like to run the new ZIPPY 40C 8000mAh lipo 2S batteries but they are too wide for the current ones I have. Should give great run times. I found a new set of wheel/tires in the shop that I had already prepped with the anti-ballooning mod. So they should last a bit. I'll post some pics later on. Time for bed.

HI!... The Madcap has black wheels stock.

HI!... Wow, it's been a REALLY LONG time since I worked on this. But it's pretty much done now, just need to add a vintage receiver.

HI!... I picked up a Sonic Fighter a bit ago. Was advertised of being new built and a shelf queen. Far from it. Took 45 days to get to me. It had overspray all over it. The front tires were so dry rotted they had to be thrown out. Some of the body had not been painted. MSC was never installed. So I dipped all the oversprayed parts in a paint remover that I have been using for years on RC plastic. Don't know what happened this time but the paint remover destroyed all the parts I put in it. I've already ordered replacement parts. Well I got some work done to the Sonic Fighter this weekend. Took a while but I was able to mix up some custom paint to match the previous owners paint job. Had to do it with a brush though. Not too happy about that but it turned out pretty good I think. I'm currently painting the driver's head. The driver is going box art. I need to get some new front tires. The originals were all dry rotted. Still need to get a "D" sprue due to the paint remover melting them. I would of had the back all put back together today but for the life of me I can find the rear trailing arm mounting brackets!!!! I have torn my house and shop apart and they have simply disappeared. So it looks like I will have to buy a "R" sprue now too. Well it's been a long time since I worked on this. Saw it unfinished on my shelf and realized I had the parts now to finish it. lol!

HI!... This is a Redcat Backdraft 8E I have as a runner. Very good car for a basher. Very tough, extremely fast on 4S. It's been sitting on a shelf in my RC shop for about 3 years now. It had a bit of a run in with a 1:1 car and obviously lost. So I decided I wanted a good basher again. Haven't really driven any of my cars in about 1.5 years. I found a stash of new parts for this car plus I just ordered $125 in more new parts off Ebay. All with free shipping! I had previously built custom aluminum side shields and center diff brace. Those are still good. Just have to "tin knock" them a bit. This is where my years of 'WAY' cover rebuilding will come in handy. Anyway going to order a clear body and do a custom paint job. Also going to go with a different BL motor and 150AMP ESC.

THE HP FREAK replied to THE HP FREAK's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
HI!... That's nothing.... -
HI!... It was nice out today so I decided to do a little BigWig photoshoot. These are my Tamiya BigWigs. One of my all time favorite Tamiya cars. Bought a new one when I was 12. And yes, there are 9 of them.
