It seems to me that you don't really want the SS or the BB.[?] Why not do the swap, then trade/sell the SS via TC for something you really want? John[]

Are the tires for the Nissan King Cab rare?

1987 World Champs at Romsey has to be a classic piece of world RC history. Who can forget Massami Hirosaka's Schumacher CAT heading off a field of mostly Kyosho Optima Mids for the 4WD title. The 2WD final placings were a real shocker as the mighty RC10 was beaten by the Kyosho Ultima, with Joel Johnson leading a Kyosho 1-2-3. Those were the days.[][][]

Very well done. Can't wait to see your Scorcher build animation. [] John

Hmmm. Where to start? The list includes: 956 -body needs stripping and repainting Brat -total rebuild and paint new shell Astute -finish rebuild and paint shell King Cab -start rebuild Willy's Wheeler -paint new shell Thunderdragon -start rebuild Marui Ninja -rebuild MO3L Mini -finish assembling for Tracy Monster Beetle -restoration job for Tracy's Dad (gotta keep in good with the future father-in-law)[] Sand Scorcher -told myself I won't touch this until I have completed the list above (yeah right)[] Apparently there's lots of odd jobs waiting for me around the house.[V]

*EMERGENCY* Snapped battery cells how to repair?
Type49rs replied to wldnas's topic in General discussions
I use a slightly different method. First, as already mentioned, lightly sand the cells, then tin both surfaces with solder. Next make up a jig to keep the cells in perfect alignment. I use a piece of wood with a v channel cut into the top of it. Place the cells to be soldered in the channel leaving a gap of about 5mm between them (just enough to get the soldering iron in). Insert the iron between the cells insuring that both cells are being evenly heated. When both lots of solder are melted gently push the cells together while removing the iron. It takes a little practice to perfect so I would suggest trying it on some knackered cells first. Main thing to remember is that cells don't like extreme heat[:0] so don't keep the iron on them for too long. John -
Hi Stefan You're not going mad. I too have the same problem, been like it for a couple of days now. Cheers John

Hi Willy Putting o-rings in the shocks to limit droop is a great idea. But here in NZ we run a strict set of rules. All cars are checked for this at scrutineering. The idea is that the cars must remain as box stock as possible, therefore nobody should have any advantage. (in theory).[] John

I agree with Willy and Renco on this one. It's perfectly normal. We have about 20 of these cars in our local club. I went to a club raceday today and tried a number of MO1, MO3 and MO3L cars, they all do it, a standard built in feature.[:0]

If you are going to paint it red, remember to use a white primer as opposed to grey primer. The red comes out much brighter this way. []

Hi Alex Ah the magic[8]. You've got quite a collection there. Any favourites? My schuey corner consists of: -CAT 2000 -CAT 2000EC -SST 2000 -SST 99 Pro -Axis Pro -Axis II -Mission Strictly speaking not all of these are mine. A couple of them belong to my fiancee but I maintain them and they sit on the shelf with my cars so they are as good as mine.[}](just don't tell Tracy I said that).[] John

Opps! I lied. Just counted seven but hope to get the new Mission MI2 after Xmas. (maybe Santa will bring me one).[]

The New Zealand based company by the name of 'Frewer' used to make them back in the day. Hard to find now. Good luck in finding one.[]

Count me in. I think I have [8] schueys in my hobby room at the moment. (finally found a use for the eight ball).[] Cheers John

Hi Darryn. Definately with you on the MkI/II Escort concept. Minilite wheels and flared guards are a must, and rear drive of course. Lets hope someone from the Tamiya R&D department is reading this![]

New Plymouth, New Zealand. Situated on the west coast of the north island, about half hours drive from Mount Egmont. Not too many places in the world where you can ski and surf in the same day. [8D] Recently Tom Cruise and Billy Conelly were in town (for about six months) for the filming of 'The Last Samarui' Tom (first name basis[]) lived about 10 minutes down the road. Every morning his helicopter flew overhead taking him to work. No model shops here.[V] Everything has to be ordered by phone or net.

Hi mud4fun, yes I understand what you are saying.[] The thundershot series were very rugged little cars. My second ever car was a thundershot, and I thrashed it at club level with good results. Perhaps Tamiya should make a re-release of the thundershot but with a realistic buggy shell.[][]
-
I,m with Sjoerd on this one. A re-release of the FAV or Wild One would be nice purely because of their realism. Modern Tamiya buggies (or any brand of buggy) don,t ressemble their 1:1 counterparts at all. A beefed up drive train would be good. Perhaps a sealed LSD and universal drive shafts to handle some serious horsepower and maybe a slightly revised, beefed up suspension but keep it looking realistic (from this planet)![]

Thanks guys for pointing these out, I somehow missed them in my daily ebay search. Been after one for some time now -$68 is a very fair price. Now I can finally begin my Brat resto.[][][]

According to my manuals, the Astute and King Cab both use the same driveshafts (part no 4135031) with two rings in the middle of the shaft. Part no 4135034 also fits. They are the same size but have only one ring in the middle. Not sure what they are from, anybody else know?[?]

Hmmm, very strange. I know there is different grades of brake fluid. I'm using 'Dot 3' if it makes any difference.[?]
-
I agree with Massimo I recently left a Porsche 956 shell soaking in brake fluid for 10 days. It removed all of the blue paint but not the white. More importantly it had no effect at all on the lexan shell. I have stripped several shells in this way. Brake fluid will not remove all types of paint, generally the spray paints are harder to remove. For Tamiya PC paints (brush on), I have found mineral turpentine (turps) to be the best. Just brush it on several times, wait at least 15 minutes or so, and the paint peels off as a rubbery skin. Stubborn areas of course will require a bit more elbow grease. Cheers John[]

Hi fury_dice I know exactly what you are saying.[] I got into collecting with firm intentions of buying only the cars that were raced at my local rc car club back in the late 80's. But now that I have found most of those, I have diversified into other models as well. And now I just want them all!!![] John
-
True. It never does seem to end. Most of the cars in my showroom are completed restorations but I'm always finding/adding parts to them that are 'slightly' better than what I already have. Definately an addiction! BTW Has anybody else noticed that about 95% of Boomerang Body Parts Sets on Ebay come from Canadian sellers?[?] John

It wasn't my worst crash but probably my most embarasing crash.[:I] I was about 13 years old and had just finished building my first ever rc car (boomerang). Keep in mind that up till this point I had never ever seen an rc car go before and had absolutely no idea of how fast they go and no idea about steering the car from the drivers perspective (wldnas mentioned something about this). Anyway, off to the nearest tennis court with a small army of friends. Being an over eager teenager it was full throttle, forgot to use steering and ended up having a head on collision with a brick wall. The resulting damage was that the bumper had snapped in half and it had left a very sharp egde under the front gearbox, but I was still mobile. [] Full throttle again but this time it was straight into my neighbours foot.[:I] She had bare feet at the time and the sharp leading edge of the remaining broken bumper ripped about 3 inches of skin off the top of her foot. Plenty of blood and tears. I was forgiven and have since learnt to drive properly. Moral of the story- if you're trying to impress the girl next door, then wait till you get a real car.[] Cheers John
