  1. Hi Nick I've recently restored a madcap and added the hopups you've listed. I've added a 13x2 motor, am using the 77t spur and a 17t pinion and it goes like the clappers, however I think it's right on the limit and with the slightest bit of moisture it spins all over the place. Great fun though cheers
  2. no didn't manage to get the guy's reg as was momentarily stunned - and he didn't hang about either
  3. having bought a baja king last year, my first r/c purchase for over 10 years I was in a supermarket car park with my brother thrashing it around. Someone driving out of the car park after finishing some shopping decided to stop and watch the action. Trying to get my brother involved - who's not at all interested in these things, but was keeping me company - I handed him the transmitter and told him to give it a spin. A couple in minutes later as his confidence grew he started showing off driving nearer and nearer to the watching car. Heading straight for it the car suddenly lost power (not sure of the battery died or the if the transmitted as now out of range) and ground to a halt just next to the stopped car. The guy opened the car door picked up my car and sped off, straight onto a main road with no chance of us catching him on foot []. I was not happy, but looking back on it now, it was pretty funny. My bro doesn't drive the cars any more.

  13. thanks guys, that's made it clearer. I guess the answer to my query is to simply try various set-ups to find the one which best suits the environment in which I'll be using it. As I only plan on bashing it around my garden a low gearing setup will probably be best for me as I'll be unlikely to reach the top speed anyway. OUt of interest what would happen if in a race the car's battery did 'die' - would they be allowed to push it over the finish line[]! Thanks for the help Costas
  14. Hi all, I'm looking for some advise regarding gear ratios. Having recently rebuilt my Madcap with help and advise from a couple of TC members particularly gingerboy99 (cheers Simon), I'm now looking to get the best possible performance from my car. Having read most of the recent threads especially those posted by mud4fun, I have a basic uderstanding but am a little confused. The thing I'm not sure about is how to calculate gear ratios to know what set-up will get the desired performance from your car. For example it's suggested (in the manual) that for modified motors a 16-17t pinion and a 77t spur should be used in the Madcap. What would happen if I decided to use a 15t or lower? Also - where's the best place (apart from TC of course) to obtain information on servicing part of the cars e.g. looking after the motor - changing brushes etc Thanks for you time and help Costas
