  1. My trusty (when I've not broken it again) TXT-1 is back on the workbench and I'm looking to slow it down a bit. For the last two summers it has been an absolute hoot on sand and loose gravel with its twin 19x2 motors on board, but that combination has resulted in three bust axle casings now simply due to the high revving nature of the motors. I don't want to turn it into a full blown crawler, but I would like to give it more torque than it currently has to climb up things. Considering puting something akin to a pair of hi-torque 27T 540's in there. What do people suggest, and what's not going to blow the bank (the cheaper the better as I'm yet to sell my TLT-1!)?
  2. Up for grabs on eBay now http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160783352801?ssP...49#ht_718wt_922 If you're interested and would like any higher quality pictures please get in touch via PM and I'll mail them for you to have a look at. Including a 5000mah battery with about 20 charges put through it now for the lucky winner (it runs for ages on that battery!).
  3. As with my Monster Beetle this TLT-1 is up for sale to pay for new equipment for my racing bikes prior to the race season getting into full swing. This TLT-1 is in absolutely mint condition, and was only really purchased as a mini playmate for my monstrous TXT-1 General Lee special. The TXT-1 does spend a bit more time requiring repairs, but it still is my go to machine for any monster truck frippery, and the TLT-1 only really got used in the house when it wasn't good weather to o outdoors. I brought the TLT-1 as a new-in-box model and set about upgrading it from the off, so it has been built with full ball races (all the original metal bearings are in the box) and the motor was upgraded from the outset with a Tamiya Superstock RZ motor so it has plenty of poke. It is also running full 4 wheel steering over the standard box version. For this it has a Futaba Attack 4 channel radio gear, and brand new Futaba 3003 servos both front and rear. This does mean that it will turn on a penny, or really freak people out by driving diagonally forwards which always confuses the badword out of people watching either my TXT-1 or the baby TLT-1. The real bonus of the TLT-1 Max Climber is the fact that unlike its brother - the Rockbuster - it runs on standard 7.2v stick packs, unlike the triangular packs that the Rockbuster needs. The sale includes the original box, the instructions, all the remaining components (should you wish to return it to front wheel steer only), the full Futaba 4 channel radio gear, and the ESC. All you'll need is 8 AA's for the radio gear, and a 7.2v battery. I'm looking for ideally about £150 for the car, but is this asking too much for a TLT-1?
  4. Now sold Sad to see it go after I spent so long restoring it, but sadly after all my health problems I am now back to full fitness and for the first time in 13 years I've done a full winters training on my bike and have started racing once more. Sadly racing bikes is not a cheap hobby, and as my Monster Beetle is one of my lesser used cars I've had to take a sensible pill and move it on to someone who may use it more. The car was brought by me and restored completely as shown in this thread: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?...c=58522&hl= It has since had the entire gearbox internals replaced with brand new components just to make sure it runs perfectly (the original diff spurs were worn and the brand new Frog dog bones were slipping) and all the originals are included. I also had an issue with the front suspension breaking so I brought a pair of new front suspension arms which are included (one of course has a cracked screw hole for the suspension as the good one is on the car) The original shock absorbers are also included, although the springs are shot hence why I replaced them originally. All the old metal plates are also included. Both body shells, glass, drivers, Futaba Attack radio gear, ESC, and Sport Tuned motors are included in the sale. Buy this, stick a battery in it, and you have instant 80's fun! Would like about £170, but will of course be open to offers, otherwise it goes on eBay.
  5. Whilst re-insulating and flooring the loft I found a bag with this old beastie in! Last time it was used (about 10 years ago) it did work, but as I can't find a transformer to connect the charger to I can't confirm if it still works today. I'm looking to sell it complete with battery, fast charger, Futaba radio gear and stand. It is very well used, and probably about 20 years old, but it is complete. Would £80 be of any interest? Depending on weight I should be able to post worldwide too.
  6. And here is the last of the November clear-out to thin out the collection. I only brought this last month as I was in desperate need of something to build when the FAV's had failed to turn up back in stock at my local model shop. Perhaps it isn't the best bet to make spur of the moment purchases, but I know a lot of people say very good things about the CC-01 chassis so I thought it would make a great addition to the stable........errr It's had a test run around the back garden, and then a run on the gravel a little bit. I then went off on holiday only to come back to a message that my long awaited FAV had finally turned up so this managed to get benched straight away. It does unfortunately have a slight scratch on the bodyshell roof where I managed it roll it on the junction from gravel to tarmac, but it's nothing too noticeable. It's fully ball-raced, assembled with ceramic grease, and with the fully operational diffs (the diff locks are still in the box, along with the instructions should you want them). It has the stock Tamiya TEU-104 ESC on board it, and a Futaba steering servo connected to a Futaba 40mhz speed controller. There is no crystal in the reciever and no transmitter sold with the car. The shell has been painted with a proper trans-blue, with a candy silver underneath it, so it's a real deep metallic blue which is a lot better looking than the standard Tamiya metallic blue, and all the decals are on the shell in perfect positioning. Photos to follow soon Price £140 including postage Piccies as promised.
  7. And so another of the new cars bites the bullet. I purchased the Durga as a partner in crime for my Avante, and as something for my wife to run when I ran the Avante.......sadly she really isn't interested in the fast buggies, and is far far happier playing with the TLT Max Climber than anything else I have in the collection. Due to me being totally in love with my Avante, the Durga has simply been a nice, put-it-together-and-paint-it project for me to build. It has literally seen one batterys use in the back garden (hence a couple of scratches on the bottom) and that has been that........there's more dust on it that dirt! It is fully ball-raced, and fitted with a Tamiya Super Stock TZ motor which was purchased brand new with the car. The radio gear is full Futaba, and it will come complete with reciever and transmitter, as well as the steering servo, so it will literally be a case of pulling the car out of the box, fitting the wheels to it, and slinging a battery in there. It also comes with a few spares due to the fact that when I built it I lost one of the little plastic bits that fit over the rods in the suspension.......when I couldn't find it again I simply gave up and ordered a new sprue so have plenty of spares. Photos to follow Price £200 including postage And so the pics for the Durga too
  8. Having to pacify the good lady wife after taking delivery of my FAV so the office is having a clear-out of cars. First to go here is my TB-01 Subaru Imprezza rally car. This was purchased on a whim to go as a partner in crime for my DF-03Ra Lancia Delta, but after just one run around the back garden I realised that the rally cars were not much fun on grass, and that they're a lot better on loose gravel to have your kicks and giggles with! The Lancia got sold ages ago, but I hung onto the TB-01 for some reason. It has a full ball-race set in it, and all four shocks have been upgraded to oil filled alloy efforts from Yeah Racing. It has a Futaba steering servo, a standard silver can motor, and that is connected to a brand new TEU-104 ESC........in fact everything on this car is brand new. It has literally seen a 1 minute test run on the back garden grass before having the shell sprayed and then being laid to rest on my car shelf on the office where it has been ever since. No reciever or radio transmitter included. Photos to follow Price £75 including postage Follow up piccies I also have all the sprues (including the unbuilt shocks), the drivers, and the instruction manual.
  9. The re-released Lunchbox also had a metal parts bag with proper holders for aftermarket shocks that will make fitting new shocks a lot easier. 80mm shocks fit nicely in a Lunchie (can be brought for under a tenner for a pair from eBay) Swap your tires round though........your treads pointing the wrong way
  10. I'm moving on the last of my Rally cars now. This is pretty much unused.........1 half 5000mah battery around the back garden is all it's managed, and then my wife went back to playing with the 4 wheel steer TLT I have. It's running a silver can rather than anything hot, but it does have some other bits and bobs with it. 3Racing alloy shocks all round. Full ball bearings thorughout. TEU104 ESC installed in the car, and a Futaba S3003 servo No radio gear sorry because I'm keeping that for my next project. It's currently got a 2001 Subaru Imprezza bodyshell on it (Prodrive metallic blue, with the Richard Burns markings), however the original bodyshell (1999 version) is included, and is sitting pristine in the box after having it's colours sprayed on as per Tamiyas manual instructions. The decals are completely unapplied for the German champ shell, but the Richard Burns shell is completed. It will be sent in its orginal box, complete with all instructions, all box bits, original shocks (unmade), spare screws, hex key, and the spare springs of different strengths for the 3Racing shocks. £80 for you good people.
  11. Got to disagree with you there Singapore 959. My original Blackfoot wasn't raced properly (you simply couldn't race those things as they just fell over!), however I used to get through dozens of drive shafts in the thing. They just went round far too easily, and that was with nothing more potent than a silver can in there. My Monster Beetle owning friend and I used to plan out our trips to Shrewsbury where the nearest tamiya stockist was just to get enough drive shafts in to keep us going. My rebuilt Monster Beetle is just used for bashing and it's Frog re-issue dog bone drive shafts are holding up far better than the hex ones ever did. Viva la revolution I say!
  12. To be fair I'm an orthodontic technician by trade, and therefore work with my hands every day and have developed a grip strength that positively scared the Occupation Health person who gave me my annual fitness report! Yet to encounter a screw that my good old trusty screwdriver and serious elbow grease could not drive in, even if the Avante did test me out a couple of times. If it gets used for more than bashing then maybe it'll get an upgrade, but to be honest it's going to be my toy, and my wides when she fancies joining me for some fun running.
  13. One Durga ordered! Question though....... Is it fully ball-raced, or do I need to order some in?
  14. Looks like it'll be a Durga then once I've shifted the Rally cars I know it'll run rings around the Avante, but I love my Avante, and I'll be doing the building of the Durga so it may well not get a motor upgrade for a while Let her get used to it with a silver can, and give my Avante with its Super Stock TZ a bit of a chance.
  15. Having a clear out to line up a new 4 wheel drive buggy to use alongside my Avante, M-05Ra Brand new Renault Alpine A110 bodied M-05Ra. Purchased last year. I built the gearbox and then left the thing in it's box until I brought my Avante and needed to move it on to raise funds, so I finished the build to sell it. It's only been tested VERY briefly on carpet in my from room to make sue it worked. Fully ball-raced, brand new Tamiya TZ 23T Super Stock motor, all round 3Racing alloy dampers, and Futaba Attack radio gear and servo £140 DF-03Ra Lancia Delta Integrale version. Been run for a fair bit, and then run into a post by my friends son which cracked the front of the Integrale shell. Since then its gained gold Scooby wheels, and a 2007 Scooby body shell finished in the classic metallic blue. Fully ball-raced, Tamiya TZ 23T Super Stock motor, 3Racing alloy dampers, and Futaba Attack radio gear and servo. Old Integrale Shell and wheels included £150 TB-01 Subaru Impreza German Champion 1999 Had about 2 batteries ran through it by my wife, hence why it just has a standard silver can motor in it. The original shell is untouched as I brought a 2001 Richard Burns Scooby shell for it and that was used for the runs. The original shell is sprayed to box art colour and in the box included. Fully ball-raced and 3Racing alloy dampers added too. TEU104 ESC, and Futaba Attack radio gear and servo £120 Need to fund a Durga and Futaba radio gear for it...........it'll still get a silver can though if the wife is going to drive it!
  16. What about going up to about £200 and the Durga? Overkill?
  17. As the topic says! Basically I have 3 rally cars (an un-run M-05Ra, a DF-03Ra Lancia Delta (now running a scooby shell and wheels), and a TB-01 german champ with a 2001 Scooby sheel on it with the original shell painted but in the box un-used) and my wife and I play with the two 4 wheel drives, but they really need to be run on loose gravel to get the best out of them.......playing on our local field with them on grass is not really much good. My wife enjoys running my Max Climber alongside my TXT-1, but would like something to run with my Avante. The Avante on the field is an absolute hoot, and we can just walk out of our house and be there in 1 minutes walk so it doesn't involve getting the car out and driving anywhere, so the rally cars sit in the office on their shelf awaiting a day out down the coast. I'm going to sell the 3 rally cars (need to sell the M-05Ra to make a bit of cash for the Avante purchase back!) and want to use the funds to buy another 4 wheel drive buggy akin to the Avante for her to run with it. I've had a Keen Hawk before, but the body is a bit ugly even though the DF-03 chassis is good. Anything else out there to consider other than the DF-03................... ............and not another Avante............. ........I'm not THAT minted!
  18. Officially the TEU104 will only take anything down to a 25T motor. Now if you're racing the things that is probably going to bear out, however I have a TEU104 running a Tamiya Super Stock TZ motor in my DF-03Ra that I use for bashing down the beach. Now that is a 23T motor and even after a whole 5000mah Nimh battery I'm not seeing meltdown of the TEU104. Admittedly I normally swap cars after each battery to allow motor and ESC to cool down, but my TEU104 is still ticking along quite happily. I needed an ESC for my TB-01 that I built recently from NIB (had an original MSC in the kit, although where you put an MSC in the TB-01 bathtub chassis is anyones guess!) and the only spare ESC I had at home was a slightly temperamental TEU104 so I figured "what the heck.......if it dies it dies". That one is now running a Yokomo 19T quite happily. When it finally melts it I'll tell you!
  19. Well yet again the superb TXT-1 is off the road for the time being due to another component fracture! Through all my running with the twin 19x2 motors that it now has I have not broken any part of the drive-train internals, or even the supposed "made from butter" driveshafts. The things that keep breaking are the things that get the infernal power into the ground! I now have broken my first front axle gear casing after trashing two rear ones since I've had the thing. The front, and the second time I broke the rear, have been due to those ball ends ripping out of the top of the diff casing with the suspension linkages. I've even reinforced them with a metal plate across the top but still they fail. Yesterdays failure involved precisely zero jumping too.........just bashing around in loose gravel, and cornering hard caused the failure this time! I've set the suspension up nicely so that on loose gravel or sand I can corner hard and not roll over, so possibly that puts more force from the suspension linkages, but STILL! I've broken two hub units as well over my times with it! It seems to spend more time waiting for new components than it does running at the moment, which bugs me as it's such good fun to drive. I already have the GPM alloy bits for the axle guards, suspension components, and body mounts, but does anyone have any experience of the GPM alloy hubs? Contemplating the hubs as the next upgrade for the TXT-1. The next thing for me is finding the alloy axle units...........anyone know where they're available from at a decent price
  20. My Avante is now coated in a perfect thin film of dust from a fun bash today with a friend in the gravel. It shoots up superb rooster-tails in gravel with that TZ motor. Don't put your Avantes in the display cases peoples.........run 'em!!! I haven't broken mine yet, whereas I had my TXT-1 out again today and broke it yet again! No jumps for the TXT-1 but one of the ball ends tore out of the top of the front axle casing just from hammering around in the dust.........I'm really going to have to fork out for those alloy axles for the TXT-1 sometime. Thankfully my Avante holds up, and has even survived the wifes driving this evening, although one of our cats isn't so happy as she reversed into him at speed!
  21. Really nice work Rob, and a superb little lowdown on how to play with the Super Stock motors. I could have done with that when I had my Clod (now sadly gone).
  22. My DF-03Ra is built up using the same top end cycling Ceramic Grease. I ride and race a full carbon race bike so in the pursuit of seconds on the clock even the grease has to be looked at. However speed is nothing if you're forking out hundreds (even thousands) of pounds on components and they go really fast but wear out in 8 weeks of racing. Ceramic grease is therefore the weapon of choice! So far it's standing both my DF-03Ra and TXT-1 in good stead, and when I've run more batteries though it I'll tell you how its getting on with my Avante. Considering I run them (when I get the chance) on sand up on the North Norfolk coast I'm pretty sure that'd break them if it wasn't doing its job.
  23. I have both the DF-03Ra and the TB-01. The TB-01 is indeed indestructible (the gearboxes are the same ones from the old Tamiya petrol engined buggy), so they will hold up to whatever you wish to throw in there, but that is the only real drawback with the TB-01.........mine may have the same Super Stock TZ motor that my DF-03Ra has in it, but the DF-03Ra being a lot lighter, and better geared wipes the floor with it. As I'm old school (nothing brushless yet) that is going to mean putting something with a far lower turn in the TB-01. My DF-03Ra has been planted at speed into very solid objects by my friends son, and so far the only damage is one cracked Lancia Delta lexan shell. How the drive shaft will hold up I'm not sure, but if a possessed kid can slam it from forwards to reverse and back again, for (usually) the duration of 2 5000mah batteries they can't be made completely of butter. And I have no problem at all fitting my 5000mah Intellect 7.2V packs in there, and they're a touch oversized as I found when I tried to fit them in my Avante.......had to make a few adjustments to the battery holder on that beastie. Only thing with the DF-03Ra........buy yourself a Keen Hawk body to go under the rally shell as they don't half collect dirt and grot in that bathtub chassis without it.
  24. Mine has a clear bit to show off the carbon fibre, and fits like a glove. Firmed the rear suspension up a bit because it was bottoming out after jumps, but that's just scratched the under tray up a bit. I may get a spare body and decals to have for shelf purposes though, as once my DF-03 tyres arrive I'm going to use those for running and save the cam locks. May be nice to put the cam locks and pristine body on when I'm not ragging the badword out of it. Anyone else getting a touch of interference from their car though? I'm running mine with the TEU104 supplied with the kit, and a Futaba 40mhz receiver. Was using a 27mhz Futaba and it was even worse......so much interference the servo was chattering when the car was only 4 meters from the transmitter. Went to my local hobby store and the guy there said it may be the carbon fibre, as planes built with the stuff actually have carbon specific receivers (showed me a Futaba 2.4ghz), but Tamiyas suggestion of having the ESC against the centre diff, and the receiver behind Paranoid Perry wasn't the smartest as the aerial has to snake past the ESC. Put my Futaba 40mhz receiver by the centre diff now so that the aerial wire goes straight to the aerial tube mount, but I was still getting interference so I swapped the TEU104 for a small 12 turn limit ESC I have for my TB-01 project, and seems to work fine. Maybe the TEU104 is dodgy or something but it certainly didn't seem to want to work properly!
  25. Superb thread, with some fabulous stories. My Tamiya worship probably starts as many of you have already stated. It must have been back in around 1988 when I hd started secondary school and the first of these superb radio control vehicles came out. Now I was no beginner to RC because when my parents lived in Nigeria I had been presented with this red jeep RC car that ran on big fat cell batteries (don't know what the sizing was but like an oversized AA), but these things were like nothing I had seen. My first encounter? A battered black Hornet that belonged to a guy in my class who came from one of the outlying villages so I hadn't met him before secondary school......he then proceeded to tell all of us excited onlookers about Tamiya and the wonders of their kit built cars, however there was one big problem........ We lived in the middle of nowhere in Wales, and the nearest model shop that sold Tamiya was an hour and a half drive away in Shrewsbury! My parents worked really hard running a fish and chip shop, and driving their over-excited pest of an 11 year old son to Shrewsbury wasn't going to happen any time soon, so I satisfied myself by buying Radio Control Model Car magazine from our local newsagent and then sinking into a well of misery when I saw the adverbs a the back, and the prices of the cars. I then knew that there was no way I was just going to have one of these brought for me, and it would take all of my pocket money from here until eternity of buy one myself. Of course this didn't stop friends buying these fabulous cars, and over the course of that first year at secondary school we started to see a proliferation of Grasshoppers, Falcons, Holiday buggies, Fox's, and the odd Frog or two. I would be allowed a go on my friends models, but usually only when their batteries were nigh on dead (and of course we didn't have 5000mah batteries in those days!), but they were still far better than my little red jeep. Throughout all this time I had been working odd-jobs and saving every penny I could just so that I could buy my own car, and it would preferably be a Frog as they tended to be better than the Grassoppers that others had, and my Dad finally relented and said that if I could raise 3/4 of the package deal funds then him and Mum would chip in and buy the rest for me as part of my birthday present. Being an August baby this meant getting one in my school holidays which at least meant not having to go on a weekend when my parents business was at it's busiest. My birthday duly arrived and off I went to the model shop in Shrewsbury (St Johns if I remember correctly, and I'm fairly sure that's indelibly marked in my mind!) with my Dad to buy my Frog, but something went wrong...... When we got to the model shop there in the front window was a huge beast of a box with this fabulous drawing of a monster truck on it........it was also within my price range, and so I returned home that afternoon the overjoyed owner of a Blackfoot! Now this of course was lousy for our buggy races we used to participate at on a spot of local wasteland (anyone who has a bog standard Blackfoot knows that they roll over with the slightest of touches to the steering at anything over a walking pace!) but everyone loved it! It even eclipsed the local rich boys Boomerang as the car that everyone wanted to have a go on, which made him very jealous. So jealous infact that he got his Dad to go out and buy him a Monster Beetle, just to wrench the attention away from me and my Blackfoot, and then to rub salt into the wound he then got a Clodbuster, although it's three minute run times did make it less popular than the Monster Beetle with everyone else. I secretly loved that Monster Beetle, but to buy a second Tamiya car was just too much for me, and my pocket money also had to buy parts for my racing bike as I was getting rather good at that, and my Dad wouldn't buy me upgrades for my bike either.......those had to be saved for too! We still played with the cars for a number of years, and most of the others moved onto 4 wheel drive cars so the spoilt boy had to find a new machine with which to wipe the floor with all of us, so amazingly a fully hopped up Kyosho Ultima suddenly appeared, but none of us really liked it because it looked a bit boxy and very ugly, even if it did wipe the floor with the collection of Boomerangs, Hot Shots, Super Sabres etc that most others had........we were all Tamiya fans and there was only one racing buggy for all of us and that was the Tamiya Avante! It looked superb, and none of us knew then about its notrious unreliability, we just knew it was the best thing Tamiya made, and it looked gorgeous. I even had posters of the **** thing on the walls of my bedroom along with the usual teenage boy Lamorghini posters, but I knew that there was no way I could ever afford one as even a Boomerang was out of my league then. 15 to 16 came.........The Blackfoot was placed in the loft.........the old bike was replaced by a serious bit of kit with a 531c frame and Shimano 105 gears.........A-Levels came........then came University. The RC cars passed into my history. Now I'm 34........... I won't tell my Dad (he'd still go nuts at the expenditure even though he knows I have 2 race bikes worth over £8000 - RC cars are toys in his eyes) but in the office now is a rebuilt original Monster Beetle in all it's glory making me smile like a child every time I have to go in there, even if the TXT-1 is my weapon of choice for monster truck playing.........but.......... Sitting right now in a puddle of dew from the lawn on the kitchen work surface is an Avante........... If I could put it on my bedside table tonight I probably would, but I think my wife may complain! I've just fulfilled one of the biggest dreams I ever had as a child, and the inner 14 year old is a stupidly happy camper right now. .................now how do I go about buying a Lamborghini Countach?
