  1. As others have mentioned, Hermes and Yodel are my first choices for sending cars. Went to the post office to send a B4 and they wanted £26 for a service that cost £8 through either of the other couriers. Needless to say I won't be using the Post Office too frequently.
  2. Slightly belated update. M06 Beetle was the winner! Absolutely made up. It won because I have a few old VW's and my kids know I love Beetles.
  3. Stripped the Mad Fighter in readiness for its repair and rebuild. Edit....and replaced all the screws in the Mad Bull with stainless steel cap heads.
  4. Mad Bull got the steering mod, heat shrink on the wishbones and a set of alloy shocks. Virtually all the play removed from the front end and much nicer handling. Happy.
  5. I think the reason behind the kit for birthday idea is because I lost my workshop room when it was converted into a nursery and ended up selling pretty much all of my rc kits to fund various baby related necessities. Now we are a few years down the line I have managed to eke out a work space and the kits are to replace what was sold, so I get what you mean Mad Ax. Good luck for February. As for the GF01, I actually have a sneaking suspicion that the CC01 may be the one they picked but as I say, there are no bad choices on the list and I will be very happy with any one of them.
  6. I started with nitro and ran and raced them for a few years. I was getting pretty fed up with the unreliability of the motors and was ready to quit the hobby all together. I just stopped enjoying all the mess and noise combined with the cost. It was at this point I thought I would try an electric race with an off road buggy. I instantly loved electric cars and have never looked back. I would never try to put someone off trying something new, you may love it. I would say though, that if you intend running the car in your garden or near other people, they won't love it. Plus, the cars are heavier which means you need to fit a failsafe as runaways are dangerous. Good luck if you decide to give it a go.
  7. Yeah that is pretty much what I guessed too. Beauty of it is that there is no bad choice! Been looking for 1/24 scale figures to make into the driver figure.
  8. So the wife said to me that my two kids wanted to get me a new kit for my birthday (just after Christmas). She asked me to pick one to get but instead I thought I would let the kids choose and gave them a list. TT02 drift Toyota Supra CC01 Mitsubishi MF01X Jimny Hornet M05 VW Golf M03m Fiat 500 M06 VW Beetle DF03 Dark Impact white edition or the GF01 Heavy Dump Truck. Apparently there was a unanimous decision so one of the above is on its way with a set of rubber sealed bearings. Does anyone else have a Tamiya wish list for Santa? Or is it too early?
  9. That's a great looking car that has resulted from the thread started in the general chat forum. I have really enjoyed your build and the rewards are days in the park with your son. Awesome stuff mate, it doesn't get much better than that.
  10. I think you made a great choice. I picked up a Mad Bull because I wanted a buggy that I could just throw in the boot of the car and take anywhere. I wanted something that could handle beach, woods, park, puddles, you name it. I also wanted the car to be tough enough for my two children to drive (age 7 and 3). I was advised that the Mad Bull was the car for the job and I can't praise it enough. I will probably pick up two more so thatwe can all have one each, the kids love it that much. Enjoy yoursand don't forget the pictures!
  11. That is such a good looking buggy. Absolutely beautiful work.
  12. I agree totally. Initially the Mad Bull wasn't on my radar at all. I started a thread to get opinions on my original short list and was recommended the MB due to my wishlist. Had it now for a while and am delighted with the choice. It is exactly what I was looking for as an all round basher that is fun and easy to maintain. I also learned that you can fit the wheels from the Aqroshot and have a world of tyre choices opened up for you. Enjoy your Mad Bull, keep us all updated with how you get on.
  13. I got my Mad Bull from Goldstar Stockists without esc and it was £64. I picked up a waterproof speedo and some bearings at the same time. My seven yearold daughter and my three year old son each drive the car around the garden and I can definitely recommend the Mad Bull for this task. It can certainly take the abuse. I have a wheel type controller and both my kids can use it ok.my three year old likes me to do the steering but my daughter is really quite good at controlling the car all by herself. Hope this helps.
  14. Saw that the weather tomorrow is forecast to be in the 80's and prepped the Mad Bull for the beach.
  15. Second vote for the Imax B6. Had mine for years and it has been perfect. Absolute doddle to set up and use and doesn't cost the earth.
  16. It's quite scary that you call this "winging it". I really do look forward to the updates on the build, it looks like it will be a stunning piece when finished.
  17. Never used 3004's before, will they be up to the task? There must be some weight in the chassis by now!
  18. I actually think that Tamiyaclub has saved me money in a roundabout way. If it hadn't been for the advice of the members here, I think I would have gone and bought a car that wasn't necessarily right for what I wanted. The members of this forum are the most knowledgeable I have come across and advice is always spot on. What keeps me coming back every day is the enthusiasm and amazing talent shown in the builds. Love this place even if I don't post much.
  19. My process is pretty simple. Is it Tamiya? Is is upgradable? Can I modify it? Will I be able to use it regularly? If the answer to 3 of these is yes, I am happy.
  20. When you put this much effort into the chassis, I cannot wait to see the bodyshell! Loving every update.
  21. Welcome. This is an incredible place to feed your addition and get all the encouragement you need to empty your wallet. My girlfriend (now wife ) was the one to get me into the hobby and like you I wished I had got into it sooner. Still, better late than never.
  22. Went for a back garden bash with the Mad Bull only to find the gearbox housing was broken. Luckily I bought two kits in order to have a stock of spares so the repair took 5 minutes. All is well again.
  23. Watched the movie again last night, that plus all these amazing builds has prompted me to do something with the Mad Bull. Won't be anything as skilful as this though! Loving every update.
  24. I love all aspects of the hobby. Buying, building, running. One of the things I enjoyed the most over recent years was taking a Tamtech and turning it into a full on racer. The satisfaction of exceeding the expectation of the car was a huge buzz. That thing was raced every week against 4wd buggy's and more than held it's own. I don't race now so I am looking forward to just running the Mad Bull and getting the kids into the hobby.
  25. Two brand new Mad Bulls, waterproof speedo, batteries and some bearings. Hmmm, what to do tonight!
