  1. perhaps the buggy racing next year for my little one, if she can get her lunchie round in under a minute i might let her pick a new ride! and yeah it will probably end up pink i guess!

i've just finished my TT01 - too pretty to race alas! did make a couple of mistakes with the decalling but i prefer to call it personal touches (bodges) :D

thanks again guys for the rescued shell that will though, its definitely not too pretty lol

so roll on the next time i can get down there!

i've got my pit equipment all ready, basically its a sandwich, choccy biscuits and a packet or two of cheese n onion.

ok i'm probably gonna buy some tyre additive, and a set of the wheels and tyres in the club shop, might get a fancy dan charger as i can see the need for one. anything else I could really use apart from basic tools? havent really got any spares to swap out. have got the spur and pinion you guys recommended winging its way to me but apart from that its totally bog standard, ideal for a bog standard driver lol.

  2. ive managed to order a new gear parts bag from japan and a new diff gear from TTP to rebuild the diff, only thing I'll be re-using (at the moment is the cap screw, lock nut and bearings, which look fine to my naked untrained eye :D

when i built the diff, having no experience, i just tightened everything til it felt right, i've just been reading a few posts about setting up a diff and obviously i didnt tighten it enough. i did the same with the front diff which stopped working on the first run and had to be re-tightened.

anyone got any golden rules about assembling and setting these specific diffs up so i might not melt the next one? B)

  3. I doubt it's the ball diff unless the OP managed to mess up both of them. If they were loose and he ran them with the 6000kV motor I'm guessing they will be melted (did this to the front diff in my DB01 once.)

Somewhere there's a thread where I asked which buggy to get, and several members started discussing problems running a DF03 with a high powered brushless motor while convincing me to get a DB01. I believe the problem is with the main shaft getting stripped. There were some interesting fixes involving using a hardened pinion and creating a new main shaft.

Since adding a DF03 to my collection I've resisted the urge to throw an EzRun 9T in and kept it on a reasonably powerful brushed motor although I have read more than one post about a DF03 using the same setup without problems. If you are going to do this I would get a slipper clutch (and let me know where you found one, all my normal sources show it as discontinued.)

thanks for the heads-up, i've just ordered one from tonys tamiya parts on the bay, was showing 6 for sale but modelsport is showing on order so im not hanging around.

ok ive got the front end off and have just been cleaning everything, havent taken the front diff apart yet but i have noticed its working in my hands and seems pretty solid. pretty confused right now! both the diff joints are a bit mashed, not where the dog bones sit inside but on the outer edges, they are torn up quite bad and have splits and chunks missing. did notice this starting when i was running the stock motor in it tho. obviously weak parts.

  4. (frowny face) hi i'm a total novice at this stuff, help needed!

my df-03 fitted with a 5.5t ezrun brushless got its new pinions today (85t spur and 23t pinion) so i took it for a test run at the local astroturf. everything was going great until it suffered a total lack of drive. thinking the motor may have shifted i brought it home to find it weasnt the problem. the pinion is still meshed nicely and the main drive shaft is spinning well but im getting no drive to the wheels.

before i start lifting out the front and rear gearboxes anyone want to prepare me for what i might find?

im not running a slipper clutch as yet, perhaps i shouldve done?

  5. hi jammer and eddystone, thanks for a good afternoon! good club, good company and a good atmosphere and myself and my daughter really enjoyed it all. (looks like i've got myself a runner and trainee pit crew, she knows where the mars bars are sold anyway lol)

wish i could get down every saturday now, its gonna make saturday afternoons at work drag even more, thats life i guess!

thanks for the racing body for my tt-01, will certainly lower the wince factor when i take a few tumbles! the cars all built and raring to go in a couple of weeks so watch out marshalls!

  6. Hi Baz, The club cars are fully prepared and ready to race. Radio gear, batteries, even the charger are provided by the club. The idea being that anyone can come and have a go at racing without needing to own any RC kit of their own. I have one of the club cars here with me right now as I've been baby-sitting it over the summer season. It's unlikely it's been allocated to anyone else to race as the club chairman doesn't know when I'm bringing it back!! It ready to go though should you want it.

The club runs a mixture of classes indoors for the winter - from Mardave v12s up to super duper fangled brushless touring car race missiles. The Quicksilver class though is the one for the best fun!

    Richard

hi richard, im gonna come tomorrow, leaving my new car half built on my table (must be keen eh?)

hopefully will get there about 11.30 so can have a look around and help out a bit if needed. i'll be the guy looking bemused and empty handed apart from 6 yo daughter who is tagging along. just off out now so chat tomorrow, im looking forward to it all!

  7. i got an 85T spur in the box, which according to instructions is to be used with 53922 set of pinions. so i guess thats my first port of call, not sure if im serious enough at the moment to lay out £40 for the slipper clutch (i might even google it and see what it does :D)

as for the batt/charger ive got a core racing 5000 nimh being charged on an Ansmann powewrjack 6 delta pro. dunno how pro it actually is as it came part of a starter pack from modelzone. esc is soldered to motor and using deans connectors as i read that there might be resistance issues with the tamiya conns. its certainly giving more 100% run time since i lowered the punch settings, but not all the way down through the battery by any means. i havent had any heat issues even after a full battery of stop/start speed. everything was cool enough to hold

  8. Did you adjust the gear ratio of the buggy to suit the 5.5 EZ-Run motor? Something around 12:1 FDR would be about right.

can i do this with the extra supplied spur if i buy the pinion? pretty new to all this so forgive my ignorance.

still having issues after setting the punch to minimum, car is great for a couple of minutes then the lag takes over again, power supply issues?

  9. well no sign of my car :(

wonderland have been pretty good so far but no sign of this one leaving scotland!

if i came would i need batterys/radio gear etc to use the club car? its a bit touch and go at the moment as planning a bit of a late night friday now, and also issues picking up my daughter before lunchtime. let the cars go to anyone else who wants them from the club amd ill check back in friday evening to say yay or nay and if i can cadge a car to use. i am looking for a fun club to join, amnd youre only a trip down the A5, and buggy racing in the summer sounds good!

  10. Loving your RC life story Baz. Had a good laugh at it - I'm liking your style - it all sounds very familiar to me. Shame you didn't get into RC while the MidlandModelCentre was still trading in Goodall Street. I was well gutted last time I went to Walsall to find it had closed down while I wasn't looking. :o

It seems the recessions been pretty harsh to the hobby businesses. There's a sad closed down shop in stonnal near me, the chippy next door is still thriving tho. Did find a shop in Dudley where they seem to know what's what and got me an esc for my keen hawk at same price as any of the online shops. Didnt seem to have a lot of stock in tho tbh. Fair play though they are building an outdoor track I think tho not sure if thats finished yet. Could be good. Better than a car park anyway!

  11. Use the programming card to reduce the take off power - can't remember which setting it is off hand, but I had similar problems with my Dark Impact. I set it to the lowest settings and it now starts smoothly every time - and still very quickly - I've not been tempted to change it since...

Thanks I'll have a tinker with the set-up tomoz then. What battery set-up are you using? I think I'm ok, got a new core racing 5000mah nimh with deans connectors so hopefully it's not a issue there?

  12. Hi all, new the forum and rc'ing in general and have got a little question.

I tested my new 5.5t system today in my df-03, the system worked fine on the bench but in test it seems very erratic. Im getting lots of lag where the car goes like it's got a silvercan in it, this is for a good 10 seconds, then I get a little hesitation where the car slows for just a moment before the whoosh kicks in. It'll then hurtle off for a little while until i have to lift off or brake then im back to the silvercanesque speeds again before the power kicks in again.

I haven't messed with any settings yet so was wondering if there's anyone had the same problem and can give me a shortcut to some smoother running?

  13. Hi all, im baz, 38 and from the midlands. Recently had a little win on the poker and was wandering around Birmingham on my lunch break with a very burning pocket and stumbled across a Modelzone store. 10 minutes later and £180 lighter I emerged with a Hornet and all the rest of the gubbins in a package deal.

Lesson 1 was to shop around a bit after I checked out prices online!

I was still pretty delighted with the car anyway, my friend had one when i was 9 but I hardly ever got a go, 1 battery, 5 minute running times and overnight charges pretty much meant i had to be happy to watch. Couldn't convince my parents that a rc car was worth one of their weeks wages either.

Anyway my build went ok, I always bodge things so apart from forgetting to remove the plastic covering on the spoiler before I carefully applied the decals i was quite happy! First drive the car spent a lot of time upside down but to he honest a few scratches doesn't bother me. Anyway I loved the thing so much that I've now got slick tyres on the rear from donutting and attempts at powerslides.

Lesson 2 RC cars are addictive!

4 weeks i I've now got 3 cars, a bright pink lunchbox (pink as I bought it for my daughter, I even let her play with it sometimes!)

The build went good with that one, apart from the last few screws attatching the sunroof. Didn't check the manual and used the longer ones and ended up with them nearly poking through the roof. Sandpaper and car body filler sorted that out!

Lesson 3 check and recheck the instructions each stage!

Okay then I fancied something a bit sexier, postman brought a keen hawk 2 days later! I loved building this! (mmm ball bearings!)

Everything went fine apart from having no esc included (wools it did say on the product details) and the body shell. Decided to go with box art eventually ao popped along to Modelzone again, realised they are pretty rubbish in all truth as they only had a few primary colours, found a sexy can of humbrol chrome spray (compatible with polybods). Apart from if you spray inside it turned out as from inside it's beautifully glossy chrome, from outside it's old lady grey! Ok I'll spray the outside then, nice! Think it's dried, oh dear fingerprints, spray again, leave for a day, apply decals, oh dear they've all fallen off! Still fun to drive tho, can make it look pretty again when I know what im doing more!

Did think it'd be fun if it went faster tho, eBay, ezrun5.5t brushless, Woops now it goes like a stabbed rat! First test run was just now at some underused astroturf near me. Didn't go 100% perfectly tho, had a lot of hesitation before the real power kicked in each time, i mean like 10 seconds running like a silvercan before the whoosh kicked in, also seemed to be steering left during this lag period before taking off dead straight when the motor kicked in properly. Any ideas anyone?

Got another car on order now anyway, can't wait to smell that nib smell again!

Final lesson, rc cars are worse than crack! And more expensive!

Anyway thx for reading, hope to pick up some tips and knowledge to save me too many more pitfalls
