CLOSET FIND! Tamiya Hilux 3 speed!
Flat_Out replied to OldSchoolRunner's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
OldSchoolRunner gets a NewSchoolRunner! -
Thanks for the info Handley! I actually picked up a couple of that body style recently from Kamtec. They started popping them out and sent me a couple in addition to the rest of my huge order of VW related stuff from them. Sadly, I have yet to come across a decent example of the first body posted that someone is willing to post to the USA. Until then, my newly discovered Dahm's D043 (beetle based body for 1/12 pan chassis) will have to do.

Right now, they are using the more universal Blitzer/MB body to make production easier. It has been/will be easily used for the SS and Blitzer. Plus, it will make the re-re of the MB easier to produce next winter. In late 2014 or early 2015 they will carefully and accurately re-re the original Sand Scorcher body based on the original body style. This will be released as a new special edition SS kit (with other parts more accurate to the MK1 and MK2 kits), and also sold as a replacement body. Everyone with the 2010 kit will feel very inadequate with their poorly shaped body and will quickly spend $50USD on the new, correctly shaped body. Stock of the newly released body will quickly be cleared out, driving up cost of the next production run of bodies. Production run #2 will be snapped up quickly and ebay'd for unreasonable amounts of money. At this point people who still have the 2010 body will feel really ashamed about their poorly shaped bodies and start smashing them into the rubbish bin, or taking them deep into the woods and smashing them with a rock down by the river so none of their friends can see the shameful bodies. Then, 14 production runs later in 2017, the market will be completely saturated with the "new" body style. Collectors will start seeking out the 2010 body for it's style, markings, and lower production numbers. Everyone who smashed their 2010 bodies in the woods with a rock will feel really bad and wish they hadn't taken them deep into the woods and smashed them with a pointy rock that was covered in dirt and moss, and thus got their hands all dirty and smelly and covered in gross moss that bugs and snails have been crawling all over forever. Gross. Keep your 2010 SS body, snap up a re-re of the correctly shaped body when it makes production, and have the best of both worlds. If you need to smash something with a rock, use the Avante! By 2015 you won't be able to give one of those away.

Volkswagen Type2 T1 Wheelie. Build thread.
Flat_Out replied to wolfdogstinkus's topic in General discussions
That's what I've got going on too! I've been into VWs since I was little kid. 90% of my R/C car's are VW. -
EDIT.... sorry, apparently I did something stupid with my photo hosting account and these pics got messed up... I'll have my own personal SRB thread up in a couple months when my garage is finished and I'm back on these projects. Sorry folks...

Long Beach, CA here. I grew up in NC though (WInston-Salem) and still make it out there frequently to visit family. Still got a stash of VW stuff out there too... I was thinking it would be cool to have a SoCal R/C bash, vintage show, swap meet type thing. The model car guys do it, why can't the R/C guy do it too?
-
I found my car on street view before. ...but didn't have my Sand Scorcher strapped to the roof.
-
Yes, it's a Kamtec body. Here's a pic side by side with a lexan version. And the NIB Wheelie Beetle I'm building it to match.

What's the tiny servo for??
-
Arrived today! I've been looking for one of these for a long long time.
-
It's all vintage aftermarket parts. Black parts are nylon, Everything else is aluminum. Stock SRB knuckles are polished too. I'm not sure exactly who made the shocks though, but I've got all 3 I need and polished them too!
-
Assembled the front axle for one of my SRB projects. Waiting on new springs for the front shocks to arrive...
-
I didn't need it, but it was a really good deal!

Vintage Lexan SRB Radio/Mech Box (MRP?)
Flat_Out replied to Will16's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
I'm building an SRB chassis that is almost (no radio box) identical to that one. I never knew who produced the rear cage. Thanks for the link! Good luch finding the radio box! I've never seen one but it looks like a cool piece. Kamtec does produce them in lexan, ABS, and ABS with a carbon pattern. Not the rare MRP part, but probably close in look and function. http://www.kamtec.co...emart&Itemid=53 -
I've got 2 sets of BLACK nylon SRB rear arms and want to trade one for a white set. My arms are used but have minimal wear. I'm looking for a white set in the same condition. Bearings will be carefully removed before shipping. Anyone have a white set and want to trade?? I'm willing to buy outright as well, if you have a pair and dont want to trade. I've got stellar feedback on ebay and all forums I visit. If you want to trade, you should too. Thanks! ((I'm NOT looking to sell these outright as of now. If I end up buying a white set, I will sell these at that point.))

The Wheelie Bus and the Doesn't Wheelie Bus...
Flat_Out replied to Flat_Out's topic in General discussions
It's Pactra's RC297 "Kryptonite Gold" paint. it's a greeny pearl with a backing color. I put on an extra coat of the pearl to make it lighter. It gives it a pretty neat look. It's a lot greener in person though, looks different in the pics for whatever reason. -
The Wheelie Bus and the Doesn't Wheelie Bus...
Flat_Out replied to Flat_Out's topic in General discussions
It's still not quite done yet, but getting there. I've had a ton of work to do this week and haven't had time to work on it. I also decided to make a couple more parts for it, and change a couple things. I cut a couple new plates for the rear pod, but want to mod them a little and cut one more set. Then I need to finish the short steering linkage, and add electronics. The body is almost done as well. The decals need to be finished up, and I need to finish adding the lip to the inside of the body that allows it to snap onto the chassis (instead of traditional body mounting posts). -

Track width and wheelbase are way off. I've got that chassis here. -
The Wheelie Bus and the Doesn't Wheelie Bus...
Flat_Out replied to Flat_Out's topic in General discussions
minor update- the body is masked for paint. I'll do that this afternoon, and then start the wonderful process of cutting out the decals. and chassis assembly is started. I decided to change the top plate a little bit. I didn't like the bend I was going to have to put in it between the back of the servo hole and where the front battery hold down post is. Now it will be two piece. I'll have to cut a new front part on Monday or Tuesday, but that's ok, I need to cut some parts for other projects too. I should have this wrapped up by Wednesday, unless something crazy comes up at work and I don't have time to finish the assembly. -
The Wheelie Bus and the Doesn't Wheelie Bus...

Thanks guys. Yes, I have a bit of a VW problem. What do you do for VW? I've got an 08 Golf GTI, and a 57 ragtop Bug. We don't get Lupo's here in the states! The Bus at the bottom of that pic is actually one of the 1:6th scale buses from the same Herbie series as the smaller body. And the motor pod is actually from some old Trinity car. Just some parts I had laying around.
