  1. Ok! I´m not entirely sure what You mean with that 90 degree aluminium thingy though.. Are we talking about a longer version of the original stiffener? Would the 3mm chassis need such strengthening? You wouldn´t have a blueprint of the butterfly-chassis by any chance...?

He's talking about something similar to how the old Hot Trick chassis were strengthened. here's an example (though it's a hot trick replica done in black)-

..or another example on this pile of **** that I'm building from old beat up left over SRB parts.

These are home made and pretty thin, but also sort of function as a "tub" to help keep dirt out.

There's a member on RC10talk who sells pin-router made copies of the butterfly chassis if you have BST access there. Nice parts and FAR more reasonable than one of the originals people try to sell on ebay for $200+

I guess I promised you guys a thread for my SRB projects too... I should get that started.

  2. Totally off-topic, but I went and checked your TC showroom and couldn't find any pictures of this Buggy Champ. I kinda like the paintscheme and would love to have a look at the whole car. Any chance that you can upload some photos of it?

That body is actually from a different car, I just sat it on top of that chassis to show how everything lined up. But yeah... I've got a lot of srb projects... Haha

I'll add them to my show room here as they get completed.

  3. But what to badword did I have back some years ago. I baught the opviouse same dual shock mount off ebay some years ago and had them used on my Rough Rider w/o problems. I have seen a RR with such a dual shock mount in a showroom on TC as well. Got to do a search for it.

Maybe Race Prep? It might have mounted differently. Or the cantilever Race Prep set up?

  4. Ah crap... I have a problem...

  5. Can't wait to see this set up! I've got a lot of SRBs! :D

I'm wondering where he gets those tires! those are fatter Sand Blaster 915's! in 1.5" diameter no less!

They're pretty hard to find. I got hooked up with a set. They come in a smaller size too! The 550's in the rear and 225's in the front are going to look awesome!

A couple pics comparing with the 915

  6. RC Mart have them in stock - all this commotion is giving me an itchy Buy-It-Now finger! I already have 2 other M05s though! lol

What is it about VWs that makes everyone go mad!

I don't know what it is, but I got it bad!! 95% of my collection is VW!! Glad I snapped one of these up while they were still in production.

I guess now I wait for the M06 Beetle...

  7. One day the US TV show "Hoarders" will indeed come have a sit down talk with me about my RC stuff....

...and this post is a preemptive "dibs" post if you ever decide to sell. haha

I love the VW push rods for axle tubes! That's awesome. I'm a VW guy since I was a kid. I've owned 30+ VW's since I was a kid, and 90% of my R/C collection is VW based.

I'm going to do some test cuts soon on re-pops of some vintage aluminum mod parts. I'll keep you posted on how it goes. Tracking down original parts is fun, and I love the primitive mechanical nature of them, but I also want to build one I can bash around without feeling bad about beating up!

The shelves in the garage hold several "Scorpion Beetle" projects as well. Over the years I've seen a few "kit bash" cars built from parts of both. I love old weird builds like that. :)

  8. Thread from the dead! I got a bit hooked on the SRB stuff since I found this chassis...

It is currently being restored. Just need to refinish the cage, and a few other parts.

    DSC_0602_zps9e921ccc.jpg

Also building this all white car. Mostly NOS parts, a few lightly used.

    IMG_5522_zps093e940b.jpg

And this one... built from all the used, beat up, scratched, worn parts.

    IMG_4288_zps90481489.jpg

Building a couple of others too. Another with black nylon parts, a highly modded re-re, and another secret project I'll unleash on the world one day...

I'm still looking for more parts, but the projects are getting there.

Post pics of your car when you dig it out!

  9. It depends on what you want to do with it. Do you want a cool vintage piece to display, or something you can drive without worrying about it being damaged?

Frog parts are still produced and easy to find, so you don't have to worry too much about damaging it. Many newly produced aftermarket parts are on the market too for that chassis. You could go either way.

In my collection, I try to have a box art stocker to display with the box, another example highly modded with period parts, and a basher. Don't be afraid to turn one project into 3! haha

  10. I've just got this one old dirty chassis I found at Goodwill. It was originally a Firebird, but when I found it the body was long gone and the box was shot. This is all that's left. I couldn't leave a fallen soldier behind though!

I don't really have any plans for it. It could be fun to clean up the chassis and find a new body to fit, but I have too many other projects as it is. It will stay as is until I need parts from it, or decide to sell it off to someone who will give it a good home.

This poor car looks like it had a rough life!
