I've got a couple of the Mardave V-Dud Special's that are based on the V12 platform. They're really cool cars. Simple, but fun! I like how they are constructed.
Was a pain to find them, as I believe they were never sold here in the USA, and the beetle kit was discontinued some time ago. I had both of them shipped to me from the UK.
They remind me of the old Bolink cars too. Have fun with it!

Just one.

Paint bleeding under my masks every time!!! ugh... facepalm.
No matter how careful I am, it always sneaks in there somewhere!
OR.... WHEN MY AVATAR PIC KEEPS GETTING REJECTED DESPITE BEING OF AN R/C CAR I SPENT A LOT OF TIME SCRATCH BUILDING...
see below.
scratch built 1/24 VW bug gasser as seen in my showroom.

I've got at least 2 of about half my cars (mostly vintage). I like to have a nice box art version and a period modified version to display together with the box. There weren't many aftermarket parts available for some of my rarer cars though, so no need for a duplicate. And then some cars I've got several of, all modified with a different theme...
As I unpack them out of storage (big move recently) I'm starting to realize I've got way more than I thought

THIS THREAD IS NOW ABOUT HULK HOGAN'S EPIC GUITAR SKILL

Do you know if CRP made nylon rear a-arms too? those and the front trailing arms are moulded in black. Also, would it be safe to assume the rear cage is JG as well? All the cages I find pics of are the CRP style that have a curve in the parallel bars that stretch over the gearbox.
I've got a bunch of srb parts, i'll get a cleaner looking gearbox mounted up when I rebuild it.

Post a pic of your nerfs if you get a chance, hedge! Thanks for the info!
edit- just found this: Pitstop Taipan
Same cage, nerfs, etc
and this: Taipan from the showroom
Mine is about just like this. except mine currently looks like ****...

Still roughly a month away from being able to move into the new place, but I was near my storage unit tonight and dug this chassis back out. Thought I'd take a better look at it after doing a ton of research into srb aftermarket mods.
Some good news and some bad news.
Bad news first- chassis has a crack in it. Right behind the rear-most mounts for the front uprights. My current thoughts are to shorten it to the same wheelbase as the standard srb wheelbase and bypass the crack- being a VW pervert, I gotta fit a scorcher body to it anyways!
Also, gearbox housing halves are def from different castings. Meaning to me that this chassis has probably seen many rebuilds and much abuse. Not much matter to me though, I'll rebuild it and make the best out of the parts stash I've got.
Good news: front trailing arms and rear A-arms are both cast in black platic. I though they were either painted original parts or white nylon parts (rch/crp) that had been dyed black; but it turns out they are moulded in black just like the rear mono shock set up (rch)! More odd parts to research!
Despite the crack in the chassis, the rest of the parts show little wear, and I look forward to building an amazing display piece out of this! Can't wait to start a build thread!

The ARS was NIP when I got it and the scan is from the same packet for the cage on the car ??????
Hmm, The ARS nerfs are the same as the CRP it seems, but neither are what I have here. The top bar on the ARS/CRP nerfs wraps around to the rear cage, where my nerfs have a top bar and bottom bar that are welded to a "sideways U" shaped bar that connects to the rear cage.
Hmm, well I have no idea still! I'm still a month off from moving, but will tear down the chassis and get it a bit of a restore as soon as I can.

On a cruise down to Mexico, guys were trying to sell me "oakley" sunglasses when I got off the boat at one of the ports. I had on a pair of Gas Cans at the time, which was actually what they were trying to sell me. Comparing the real and the fake side by side was hilarious. They were only asking $2 for them and I still wouldn't buy them because of how terrible they were. colors, materials, textures, logos, hinge operation, etc. were all waaaaaaay off. Plus, I've worked with Oakley on car projects and wouldn't do that to them! They've been go to me in the past.

Thanks for asking for me Paul I will be sure to email Flat Out once he has set up house again much appreciated mate

Free parts for anyone willing to help me move!

-
to add further confusion... my chassis features many items coated in black. The ebay chassis featured here has black trailing arms in front and rear. I've also seen some items coated black like this in vintage pics. Was CRP or someone selling parts or whole chassis with blacked out parts?
-
Hey Flat Out, do you fancy selling those front shock up rights and supports to me

Paul
I don't want to part that chassis right now but might have another set in storage. Pardon my delay in posting cars to my showroom, swapping parts, etc... I'm in the sloooow process of moving into a new home and most of my goodies are in storage right now. I'll be back up and running soon and you can all see why I'm such a Volkswagen pervert! Whatever srb spares I have will be up for sale/trade then!
-
It's back again. NR, but a higher starting price and already one bid.
I was watching this as well. this one is restored nicely and worth a lot more, but it does share a lot of the same parts that I have on my chassis.
-
Bump... Thought I was going to score one out of Canada, but still no word on a total from seller.

Anyone out there want to part with one??
-
tamiya stinks.
I had to lol

-
I've also just bought a Monster Beetle
They've got all the parts, not sure why they haven't lumped them together in a box yet.
-
you haven't seen all the boxes around and on top of it
. I'm going to be on hoarders one day and it won't end well. Can I be in your will in case you get smothered to death under a pile of fallen RC boxes?

-
Great find!!
Would it be possible for you to put that long/wide butterfly chassis in a scanner and scan it, as I'm trying to make some new "blueprints" for that chassis.
Tom
I was going to scan this and draft it out myself, but there's some stupid lack of a twain plug-in for photoshop cs5 and it wont recognize my scanner. I'm just taking measurements and drafting it out instead of drafting it over a pic, but in and out of town this time of year for work, so not sure when i'll have a dxf file done.
I'll keep you posted.

-
Chassis RCH/CRP butterfly - can you please tell me how many sets of mounting holes there are for the front uprights and which ones your uprights are in!
Finally you would normally see widened front and rear end (hence my Q above) but your rear is standard. I would take the gear cover off and look to see if its running the standard SRB gearing or if the previous owner replaced it with changeable spur hub.
Would you be happy to divulge how much this cost or would you part it out for spares?
There are two sets of holes up front, and the uprights are mounted in the outer most. How were the rear's widened on these cars? longer axles and swing arms?
I got this in a package deal with a couple other cars (like new Bulldog minus body and a crappy Blackfoot turned Monster Beetle). Not much invested really. Not looking to part it out really. I might sell it later, but not really sure what it's worth. For now I'm going to clean it up some, get it rolling, stick some sort of proper body on it, and display it with my Volkswagen based R/C collection. I've got a set of See's wheels that would look great on here, but don't think they ever made adapters to fit the rear hubs of this.
-
That thing needs to be restored not used as a basher

kinda my thoughts too. I'm gonna clean it up the best I can and display as soon as I can. I'm in the middle of moving into a new place right now though and it will be a couple more months before I'm 100% operational again. It will be in my showroom (as well as the rest of my stuff) as soon as I'm settled into my new garage and back to work!

also: Inside joke to OP:

-
The Nerf Bars appear to be an old Team CRP design (Part 3061), they are normally stock aluminum - the previous owner appears to have painted them black: http://www.rcchopshop.com/crp/3061.html
The Roll Cage is likely to be a Team CRP release as well possibly part 3062 or 3064
Team CRP also made two Butterfly Chassis designs. A standard Chassis (Part 1015) and a 'short' chassis (Part 1021). Part 1015 was 1" longer than the stock SRB chassis whereas the 'short' chassis matched the length of the stock Tamiya SRB chassis.
Hope this helps.
Dan
Thanks for the info! This is the longer chassis for sure. I though I might slide a basher MB body on it, but the wheel base is indeed longer and it would look stooopid.

Mardave Beetle bodies from the past?

Can anyone give more info or history on the two bodies pictured? (both pics kindly borrowed from teh interwebs)
I believe the two are mardave v-dub bodies that are now out of production... maybe?? maybe the unpainted body is an early example of the more refined green and white body? I'm not sure...
I've been looking for examples of both to add to the collection here, but have had trouble finding any history or representations of either anywhere online.
Any insight from fellow TC members as to what I am searching for exactly???
Much thanks for any further info!
I've got a couple examples of the typical V-Dub bodies that came with the kit most are familiar with, as seen below. It's the two above I'm looking for more info on.
