Only issue with the extra material might be the top cap of the shocks rubbing if you used the inner most holes - if you don't want to use the inner holes then don;t drill them, and retain some strength.

Associated SC10, Traxxas Slash or Blitz ESE all very robust.
One thing most short course trucks suffer though it that they throw a lot of dirt into the shell from the front wheels in particular

I have rebuilt and lightly run two Boomerangs and one BigWig - whilst there is some theoretical benefit from the twin front shocks of the BigWig I can't say i ever found the Boomer lacking or the 'Wig superior.
I never weighed either model, people say the 'Wig is heavy (and i wouldn't disagree) but from recollection I don;t think there's an awful lot between the two models.

Either make your own (use old one as template) from some 2mm / 3mm carbon fibre sheet, or perhaps ask Fibre-lyte to give you a quote to make one (not cheap, or quick unfortunatley)

That comes out to around $100 USD. How much did you all get it for?
The offer was 59.99 euros, so 30 euros discount - after shipping to UK it worked out about £67 - great price for a XB kit with radio gear !!

Did you power up and centre the steering servo before installing ?
Just checking as often they are not on centre when new in box - if not power it up now, you may be lucky but if not its a lot easier to disassemble now to centre the servo saver
-
Nice start Jenny - not sure it's going to keep you busy for many winter nights though at the rate you are going !

I'll throw a wild card in, in the form of the Levant.
Never a great seller due to the Traxxas Slash /EMaxx presence and silly initial Tamiya pricing, but they are 100 euros at Tamico currently which for a reasonable tough (lexan body) big tyred stadium truck that will shrug off a few knocks and work weel in the garden thats a good deal..
XB prebuilt and painted, just add eletrics..

Nice job on the painting.
Been painting myself; silver coat on the rough rider shell plus two coats of clear. Just wet sanded with 1200 grit so off to fire more clear now

Perhaps you should buy the treadmill they have for sale too - at the same £23.66 with free worldwide postage.
-
Stick to the stock gearing or perhaps one less if you've not got much room for full throttle maxed out speed.

One thing to consider, if you beef up the shock tower what is then the weak spot for breakage - those extra holes might not get used but perhaps they are there as much to create a weakness in high stress landings ?
