  1. Haven't had a Supershot since I was 16, so my memory is very fuzzy from when I built it. You are correct, that peice is now steel ( maybe aluminum, can't tell ). Same on it's original length, can't remember. LOL getting old stinks ( except the part about having funds for all the kits I want now! ).
  2. Really enjoyed my Avante build. When I was done, I think I just starred at the kit sans body for two days. It's just such a work of art. I now have a Black Special but that will sit NIB for a while, but it will be built lol. PS, thanks for the nice comment on the build quality. I think I'd already be done with it if I weren't so anal about flashing lol.
  3. No problem Wandy. The answer is yes to both being stamped and the lowers are black. On the uppers, once installed, you can't see the marking as they are then facing the chassis, on the lowers, they are visible as the markings face up. Hope that helps! PS, sorry for pic quality, all have been taken with my camera phone as I can't seem to find my Nikon .
  4. Looking good! Makes me realize I need a new body for mine. It's seen better days after all the abuse I put it through. I think I'll pick one up and do it box art, as my current is a cool blue that's close, but color shifts. PS, did you back it with anything? It looks a little opaque (wing especially) but I like it!
  5. Worked all day, but I did get some more done on my Supershot build.
  6. I clean them using my RPM bearing blaster and re-oil. Wheel bearings after every session, others about every 4-6 packs. As far a good replacements, any decent sealed bearings work well. I don't spend crazy money as bearings are an item that will deteriote and need replacing regularly if you run the car. Usually wait for failures and replace in pairs.
  7. I don't know about you guys, but the thought of getting a new car dirty on the maiden voyage just scares me lol. I have never done that. First two packs are always easy runs and pretty picture time. After though, it's a free for all .
  8. Ok, the build is humming along. Wish I had more time as I'd have this done by now, but it has really given me motivation to do well at work, get home walk my dog, and then get to some building before bed. More tomorrow!
  9. This will be my only update tonight. I was tired after work and just wanted to watch the F1 race. I also had to wait for paint to dry .
  10. I think this is a very interesting design and I like the look, but for just a little more, you can pick up an AE B44.1 Factory Team car which is a proven world champion racer with all the hop ups you can shake a stick at. If I were to pick up a 4wd 1/10th buggy, that would be my choice. This car may be the spiritual descendant of the Avante.
  11. After 25 years of RC, I've found that a light coating is all you need. Any more and the first time you bury the throttle, the extra grease just lines your gearcase. I run all my cars and I do maintain them, after about every 4-6 packs I take them apart, clean, regrease. My race cars get broken down after every race day. On a side note, I forgot to mention how much I hate the way you space the motor on this car and the Hotshot. I hate not being able to see my gear mesh and using those silly spacer bars. I remember as a kid having one of the spacer bars getting magneticaly sucked into the endbell of one of my motors. Took forever to remove. I had that flashback while building and I was an angry 13yo kid all over again lol. Then I looked at the kit sitting in front of me, and I was all smiles .
  12. Ok, got some more work done. Everything has been very smooth so far in true Tamiya fashion. The only thing that strikes me as odd is that a few steps require AG Thread Lock, but for whatever reason, Big T did not include any with the kit. Not a problem as I have 6 or 7 jars of the stuff from other kits. On to the pics! Off to bed, more pics tomorrow!
  13. All your cars are looking great and making me want to build mine. I've had the Ferrari F2001 sitting NIB for a decade now. It sits on my work bench and about every other week, I open the box to build it, but get side tracked with other projects.
  14. It's only because I have $65 credit with them lol. They are fine for paint, misc items, and Losi parts I need though. The owner is a real nice guy so I try to help them when I can.
  15. Lol, thought about eating there but I was too bent on getting the build started. Regarding time, don't even get me started. I wanted to call off from work today, but that would cut into my funds as I work on comission and I need all the money I can make with a Bruiser in the future and an EXO that I just paid for (which STILL hasn't arrived). More pics tonight after work!
  16. Ok, I cleaned my work space and had a little time, so the build begins. I will be building it stock for now. When I get to the paint, it will be box art as my original from when I was 13 was done box art (I think the only vintage Tamiya besides my Blackfoot that was box art). As far as electronics go, I'll be using my trusty DX3R Pro, an SR300 or SR200 (which ever I have free at the time) reciever, basic Futaba S3004 servo, and it will be powered by a 5000mAh NiMH. It will go brushless in the future, but for now, kit stock. This is a busy week for me and I'll update as I can, so bear with me and enjoy. Feel free to comment along as I go and ask questions in the thread if you have any. Here are the first 4 steps. Nothing major and pretty straight forward. I am using the larger 15 tooth pinion included with the kit, but I may throw the 13 tooth in with the brushless set up. Ah, a clean work space (you can compare it with the pic I posted in OSRs workspace thread). Next 4 steps were pretty basic and anyone who's built a Hotshot recently will be farmiliar with them. I'm off to bed. Work tomorrow, but I'll have some more done tomorrow night.
  17. Why yes it is. That happens to be my 2003 Evo 8. It's really dirty right now, but shouldn't a rally car be dirty? I always wished Tamiya had made an Evo 8 body. I have a 6&7 shells, but they aren't my car!
  18. I had no idea you are here in the Springs! You even subscribe to my YouTube channel, surprised you didn't recognize some locations or at least mentioned it to me. We should get together some time and drive some cars.
  19. Ok, when I start, I'll do a build thread in the rerelease discussions forum if you guys would be interested.
  20. Three beauties I've been waiting on. I don't know which one to build first. I have time as I'm going to clean and organize my build area ( AKA my dining room table, check OSRs thread lol ) first. Probably the Super Hotshot since I just built an Avante rere a few months ago. The RX8 is the ESC for my EXO ( we have too many acronyms and products named with letters in our hobby lol ).
  21. When I want to play with my RC cars but I have to go to work to pay for my RC addiction.
  22. And their "roommate" Tanya Roberts circa Sheena.
  23. Ask and ye shall recieve. Not much room to eat on, heaven forbid I spill something on my set up board lol.
  24. At my LHS. They are made by Losi, come 5 to a bag, $5 per bag. Yes, drift is hard! Lol it is all about throttle control and small wheel inputs. I felt good for my second day. I'm off tomorrow too, so I may do some more drifting but I also plan on making a video with my WW2. PS, the cones are rubber.
  25. I have a small house, so all my work is done on my dining room table. I am single and haven't eaten on it in three years lol.
