  1. I don't think Joe is the one doing the build.
  2. You do realise that the 2012 prediction will come true now that the Bruiser has been rere'd right? Lol
  3. The 1410 should be perfect for the EXO. I have the Sidewinder 1410 combo in my SC104x4 and it's a missle! I am planning on getting an EXO and that's what I'll be putting in it. So excited to get the EXO. PS, your 2pole should be ok, just gear it to run 130-140F motor and 120-130F max on ESC. On a side note, I now race my SC104x4 with the new Tekin 4pole and that motor is a beast! It runs amazing at about 160-170F and I'd never run a Castle that hot.
  4. Its amazing how easy it is to clean when you have an air compressor. Just blew the dust of and and regreased some of the drive line bits. I don't go to that spot in the video anymore as the dirt has really high iron content. After an hour there my motor looks like it was dragged through iron shavings. What a pain to clean. That part took the longest.
  5. I have been driving my Avante since I got it right after rerelease. I do not baby it at all. Love driving this thing. I have not broken anything yet but the paint on the wing is falling off after all the rolls after failed jumps. I did have to re loctite the screw that holds the driver and a bunch of other metal to metal screws. Just go through it after running as I do find things start to come loose no matter how much thread lock you use. Here is how I typically drive it. http://youtu.be/YakfRt4QTbM
  6. With the rears spinning faster with CS gearing, it actually allows you to CS longer ( actual CS). I know it sounds stupid, but thats the way it is now. Just looks more like 1:1 drifting with steeper angles on an RC. So to sum up, CS gearing, makes RC drifting look more like actual 1:1 CS. LOL My head hurts now too!
  7. ^^^ Paul just saved me from typing a lot. Lol I have two drifters. An old Associated TC3 that i was able to get a spool (locked diff basically) for the rear and my greatest web find, the long discontinued front one way. I also have the first release VDF. I love both and like Paul said, i drive the TC3 on parking lots and "dirty" places and the VDF on prepared "clean" places. There is a bit of difference between the two. The VDF is more of a finesse machine and the TC3 more of a blunt instrument. I love both very much. Good recommendations on here. If you have the money, try the TBO3vds. Get the 2.4 radio and a decent brushless setup around an 11.5 to 13.5. I prefer sensored vs sensorless. Better control. Also, play around with different tire compounds. I like a little more grip on my VDF on a prepared surface so i run HPI A Drifts. On street/parking lot with my TC3, i like stage D compounds. Have fun whatever you go with and post pics of your ride!
  8. My first build was the venerable Hornet back in '85. Dad took me to the hobby shop for my birthday and I spent an hour deciding between the Hornet or the GH. The man at the hobby store Tom ( may he rest in peace, heart attack in 2000, yes we became friends over the years ) was pushing me to get the GH as we said it would be easier for a first timer. Always up for the challenge, I decided to go with the "harder" kit and more speed. I spent the next two days furiously building my Hornet and not to pat myself on the back, but I did a really good job of it (always been a bit of a perfectionist even as a kid). In hindsight, my kit builds still go about the same as that first one, I just now have a wealth of knowledge to make it faster and easier to build. The funny bit was the first run. Made the rookie mistake of turning the car on first and promptly burnt out the resistor. Tom didn't have any in stock, so my first real run happened two weeks later after the part arrived. Those two weeks were the worst two weeks of my life!
  9. Such a difficult question to answer and so happy it's just a hypothetical. My gut tells me that the Super Shot would be mine, however my head tells me that it wouldn't even be a Tamiya (no sure based on the question if it has to be a Tamiya). If we don't have to be T centric, then it would be my SCX10. I use that truck more than any other vehicle I have. On a funny side note, my CR-01 gets the second most usage.
  10. Can't really see with that small pic but I think the one on the left may be a Kyosho SC from an early Ultima?
  11. The older I get, the longer I take. I've become a perfectionist so it takes as long as it takes to get it done. Lol Funny side note, my race cars I build as fast as I can, usually four to six hours, where as my bshers and shelfers I obsess over every little detail down to the last nut. PS, I can't stand flashing and will have parts neatly trimmed and sanded even if it'll never see the light of day. I spent one whole month of at least two hours a day on a Tamiya tank once.
  12. Great question. You made me think, lol. I'm 38 and got my first kit ( the venerable Hornet) when I was twelve. My first six years of RC were with a stick. I have stayed faithfull to the hobby since, and when I started racing, switched to a pistol grip wheel. I still use stick radios for my helis, quadcopters, tanks, and big rigs. When it comes to cars, I just prefer the wheel. Ironically, I'm horrible on racing games with a wheel, prefer the stick controllers.
  13. For me, it is the Avante 2011. The one I'm looking forward to is the Super Shot. That car and I were inseperable back in the day. Always regretted selling it and now I'll get to play with it again!
  14. Because turkey tastes better than herring. Lol jk.
  15. Great cars. Had a Roth 956 back in the day. Can you run foams on those? That would seem like the ideal solution unless the rims are a problem to get a hold of.
  16. If you are going to paint it a dark color, try midnight blue. It is called the midnight pumpkin after all.
  17. I recently got an SCB. I love this thing. It is now my primary basher. It will never be raced or babied. I'll update when I can. If you have one, please post stories, pics, or vids here. Added bonus, a test video I made. http://youtu.be/aHT5dZB4ttA
  18. Get the 22. I've been racing this car weekly now for three months and all I can say is AMAZING. Start with the Dustin Evans set up and you will be fine. It is so durable and agile. You don't have to push it hard to go fast. It will make you look like a better driver than you are. LOL
  19. I've only ever wanted one re-re even though I've bought the Avante and Brat. Please let a 959 be next!
  20. And a terrible Traxxas at that. It doesn't drift right and it's a horrible rally car. On the bright side, the body is kinda nice. LOL
  21. But I want a Wild One! LOL
  22. Probably a music rights issue. Sorry about that, I just can't make videos without music. Too borin for me just to hear the car and the wind lol. Youtube won't let that vid be seen on mobile devices and some countries because of the Beach Boys song on it.
  23. Probably a music rights issue. Sorry about that, I just can't make videos without music. Too borin for me just to hear the car and the wind lol.
  24. Was a nice day out and I had the day off. Took the Avante out and had some fun. http://youtu.be/YakfRt4QTbM
  25. Here you go. Threw my DF03RA in the middle for comparison. The big ones a Slayer, but same size as a Slash. I really abuse my 1/16th Slash and I have had no issues. It's a fun little car to beat on and not have to worry about anything. It's also waterproof, so again, no worries.
