  1. Hi guys this isn't RC related but was hoping someone may be able to give me some advice here. My brother and I are looking to "hop-up" our kids little 12V ride on quads by putting our Makita 18V batteries in them. There are loads of videos on the net where people just throw the battery in there and call it day, and apparently have no problems. I want to be a little more scientific however, and make sure A: my kid isn't riding a death trap! and B: we don't kill our $100+ batteries. Attached are some pics of the battery and charger, and of one of the quads in question. My questions are: 1. Should I add a low voltage alarm, and what should I set it to? 2. Should I add a thermal switch/fuse? If so how do I work out what switch/fuse to get? Any other advice greatly appreciated!
  2. I've just received emails from rcMart and Paypal: "Dear Sir, Sorry to inform you that Hong Kong Post Office is not able to ship out the order due to the substantial reduction in flight frequencies by airlines, which has resulted in a nearly complete inability to provide any air traffic capacity to cope with the volume of items conveyed oversea. We have to cancel the order and refund back to your paypal. Sorry for any inconvenience caused. stay healthy. Best regards, rcMart.com - Customer Service" Anyone know who has stock in Australia?!
  3. I paid approx $50 USD for "EMS" shipping. There was a slightly dearer ($6 USD?) option but it was actually a longer delivery time?
  4. Hi all, Sorry if this has been covered before, but I did a search and couldn't find exactly what I was after, plus in alot of the older threads the pics aren't working anymore etc. Does anyone run a set of tyres like this on their DT-03? (or any other similar 2WD buggy) https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/4pcs-RC1-10-Rock-Crawler-Black-Pentagram-Wheel-Rim-Simulation-Rubber-Tyre/252707117013?_trkparms=aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D226060%26meid%3D53a5a44b9ce94290b98750f285d160d9%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dpf%26sd%3D252710808639%26itm%3D252707117013%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DSimplAMLv5PairwiseWeb%26brand%3DUnbranded&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851 Got a pic? Open to thoughts and suggestions on this. I know I will need to use the bearing/hex adapter things. I'm looking for a cheap set of tyres to bash around on all sorts of terrain. Something half way between standard tyres and monster/stadium truck tyres. Thanks, Mark
  5. ok thanks. That order you did 3 weeks back, when do you expect to see it?
  6. Hi all, On the 11/04/2020 I ordered and paid for a DT03 kit on rcMart.com. I paid with paypal and the payment has gone through. When I login to rcMart and check on my Order Information, it has been saying 'processing" since 13/04/2020. Why would it be processing when the payment has been made? I've emailed them twice about it with no response. Will try calling them at some point but it's hard with the time difference (I'm in Australia). Thanks, Mark
  7. @A-Baum and @toyolien where are you guys based?
  8. Thanks all. I asked this same question on a few aussie facebook rc groups and got an overwhelmingly positive response re Plaig, so I will probably go with them. Yeah I got impatient and ordered the rcmart kit already. I can't decide whether I'm being sensible and doing hardly any/gradual hop-ups, or if I'm doing EVERY hop-up from the start... I emailed Tamico and they replied and said they can't ship at the moment, same with Tony's Tamiya parts, which is understandable of course. Whatever I get I want to pop the seals out, degrease, and re-oil. Besides some proper RC-specific bearing oil that I probably can't get, what else can I use for high speed bearing oil that is more readily available? How about Teflon road-cycling chain spray?
  9. Thanks @ThunderDragonCy Is that GPM set a good thing or is there something else I should be looking at?
  10. Hi all, Sorry if this has been covered before but I'm in Australia and alot of places aren't shipping at the moment which is making this harder. I'm getting my DT-03 kit from rcmart.com and I want a full set of ball bearings on hand when I build it. I believe I need 14 in total for this buggy. This kit from rcmart looks good, but it is metal seals isn't it? And being an off road buggy I would've thought I'd want rubber seals? https://www.rcmart.com/tamiya-1150-ball-bearing-16pcs-54579-00039079 Any thoughts on this kit? https://au-fasteddybearings.glopalstore.com/tamiya-neo-fighter-dt-03-sealed-bearing-kit/ How about this kit from Australia: https://plaig.com.au/product/tamiya-dt02-dt03-complete-bearing-kit/?v=6cc98ba2045f Any advice much appreciated. Thanks, Mark
  11. Sorry for the thread mine, and hopefully you or someone else will answer this 3+ years later (!), but I'm about to build a DT-03 and also want to go to the extra effort of shimming etc. I notice the part you ordered "58012055515" is the Tamiya 5mm diameter shim set. My buggy hasn't arrived yet but I have looked at PDF manuals for it, and I would've thought the 3mm shim set is what we need for these cars? Also, in the interest of tightening things up and offering more refinement, are these hop-up parts beneficial: https://www.rcjaz.com.au/tamiya-dt03-aluminium-hitorque-servo-saver-25t-with-tie-rod-1set-gpm-dt3025tm-p-90079609.html Can I adjust toe with these tie-rods? Thanks, Mark
  12. Hi all! Wasn't sure where to post this so let me know if it's not the right spot. As a kid many moons ago I had a Fighter Buggy RX and absolutely loved it; I displayed this by flogging the absolute crap out of it wherever and whenever I could (BMX tracks, Skate Parks, beach...). My dad and I got pretty good at gluing it back together and I have very fond memories of that car. Unfortunately after breaking the car so many times, and as I got older and lost interest, I eventually chucked it, however I did keep all the radio gear out of it. Fast forward to about 6 years ago and I saw a BNIB kit come up on eBay for a steal, so I grabbed it, built it, and hung it on the wall in my shed. I never ran it because I didn't have any batteries or chargers etc, the steering servo was broken etc, and in any case I just liked looking at it every time I went into the shed, so that was good enough for me. Fast forward again to last week and in a Covid-19 induced bout of boredom, I went and got the buggy off the wall, dug out the old radio gear, and started looking into what I would need to do to get it going. After a few hours trolling through this site though, and a few on youtube, I remembered just how harsh "bashing" RC cars is, and that this chassis in particular was fairly rubbish to drive (understeer city!), which led me to biting the bullet and pulling the trigger on this: https://www.rcmart.com/TAMIYA-1-10-DT03-RACING-FIGHTER-CHROME-METALLIC-BUGGY-EP-47347_00073213 Ok so now for the questions... I'll also order the 16 x 1150 bearings, and was also going to get a GPM servo saver. Does anyone know if this one will work with my old Futaba S3003? (I'm hoping to use the throttle servo from the old buggy): https://www.rcmart.com/gpm-aluminum-2mm-thread-servo-saver-1pc-silver-for-tamiya-dt03-cc01-m1025-hummer-wild-willy-2-tt02b-dt3023-2mm-s-00064128 It's hard to get parts in Australia (at least for a noob like me getting back into it) and shipping seems to be a killer on eBay etc. Rcmart seems to be reasonable though, they only want $4.50 USD to ship the bearings and servo saver. If anyone knows of a better place for me to get parts I would appreciate the tip. For the battery, I rang my local hobby store (tried to get a buggy locally too but no-one has stock) and he quoted me $50 AUD each for a NXE 2S LiPo, and a Ultra Power 3 amp Charger. Anyone see any issues with this? The Minister for War & Finance is watching me like a hawk with all this so hopefully all the above will get me going for a bit, and then later on I can upgrade the car some more, possibly even a brushless esc/motor combo and a 3S battery
