  1. Not the postman but a local socially distanced Facebook Marketplace pickup. It's in mint condition having been sat on shelf since it was built 2 years ago. Full running gear included. It was too good a deal to pass up.
  2. This looks like the perfect thread to ask about these? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000678070042.html I was goofing off on eBay, considering picking up a Hopper again and this popped up. Anyone have any experience of these upgrades? Links to builds or reviews?
  3. I know this has been asked a hundred times before but I am still no closer to an answer after searching around. I've got a few vintage Tamiya (Grasshopper, Hornet, DF-02 (is it vintage yet...), Frog) - but none of them run very well on my lawn. Just wondering what's a good car for bashing around primarily on cut grass. I've been looking at the mad bull but some reports seem to suggest it's not a good runner on grass. Is there anything I can do to a Hopper to make it run better on grass? Suggestions welcome. Would prefer to stick with Tamiya but would consider another make if it'll bash grass nicely.
  4. Ah I just assumed the Rx needed something plugged into the batt port. Ive just pulled the AA pack out and its all working fine. Thanks for sorting that out for me.
  5. Im still finding my feet with radio gear so please forgive me if this sounds like a stupid question. I have an Acoms Rx that Ive been using with a 101bk ESC. The 101BK has a JST connector that can be plugged into the Acoms Rx to power it therefore eliminating the need for the 4 AA battery pack. Im in middle of another little build using the same Acoms Rx but an old Hitec SP-520 plus ESC. The ESC doesnt have a JST connector to power the Rx. Is there any other way for me to power the Rx direct from my stick pack with out the need for the 4 extra AA cells?
  6. I'm in the middle of my rebuild of a GH2. So far I've added some modded front shocks and the Hornet oil rear dampers. I've also mounted a 540 motor. I'm looking to change the wheels to something a little more meaty and had a question. I'm going to get the frog hex adapters to mount the rear wheels. For the front which wheels will take the 1150 bearings I have fitted? Any recommendations for a set?
  7. So I'm restoring a Grasshopper and playing with a DF-02 and having a great time too. Well, when I was browsing eBay I came across a Fireblade Evo with tons of bits for a good price (well i thought it was a good price: £40 with a load of spare wheels, tyres, bearings, bits and bobs etc) I must say this car is on another level in terms of engineering and definitely outside my Tamiya comfort zone! So I have some questions. 1) It came with a slipper gear installed and a 95T spur. What motor should I try and find for it and what pinion? I'm going to go brushless eventually but I want to start brushed until I can afford BL. 2) What's a good ESC to use with this car (and the recomended motor). 3) The cups on the driveshafts have tonnes of play in them and the ends of the dogbones look like they have been chewing their way through them. Is there a hop up or alternative? 4) Does anywhere carry the shells - it came with 1 set in good condition and 1 in usable condition. The gearbox cover has seen better days though. If I can't find one I guess I'll have to take a mould and make my own. I'm sure I'll have more questions during this rebuild - haven't cracked open the gearbox for a propper look at the condition of the ball diff yet.... Thanks in advance.
  8. What's the difference between the DF01 models? Is the Top Force the daddy or can any car with a DF01 chassis be built up to a good spec? Manta Rays seem to come up quite cheap now and again; ugly as sin though.
  9. Subtrims - at default (0 on my DX6i - you can use them to make small adjustments to your steering servo to center it) Travel adjust - at default 0 SW-TYP % - shouldn't do anything its for setting gyros on helis Throttle Curve - set it linear (on my Dx6i 0 - 25 - 50 - 75 - 100) Pitch Curves - won't affect your car - leave them all linear. Throttle Hold - can be useful as your throttle stick won't have springs to bring it to 0 - if your car goes mental hit the hold. Leave the idle up switch off - it won't effect your car. Make sure you get your steering servo plugged into whatever chanel is usually for airlerons. That should do it
  10. I was too terified to even look inside the magic twitching balloon! I've just taken my Hopper out for my first bash in probably 18 years. Lots of fun but no traction on these worn out tyres lol. Time to get some adapters and 2.2s. Once I've rebuilt the front end with CRP and painted the shell I'll post up some pics.
  11. My RC car as a kid was a Grasshopper 1 - All the stuff I've been doing with helis just made me nostalgic for a hopper so I picked up this rolling chasis cheap as. I've also now got a DF-02 rolling on the way that I'm going to make brushless I think. I remember being scared to mess about with the insides of my hopper as a kid (I bought it second hand rtr) It all seemed so technical - lol - Now I've had one apart down to individual parts and rebuilt in less than 2 hours. I do miss the servo driver MSC and rubber balloon nonsense a bit though.
  12. Thanks for this. I guess I just expected EPA - coming from my Trex 450 heli to this is a strange process... I've glued the saver into a single piece and added a washer for good measure. Going to leave it at that for now as I've got a CRP front shock tower on the way and it'll be all change then anyway.
  13. I've just picked up a Grasshopper 2 as a bit of a project and I'm having a bit of an issue with the steering set up. I've got a modern Acoms radio set with an AS-12 steering servo. ESC is the 101BK. My issue is the servo travels further than the model allows making the servo saver pop apart if you pull full left or right. Is there a way to limit the travel or some other solution to this problem? Thanks in advance.
