  1. I kinda sorted it out, but it's not great. The instructions say to slide a small tube onto the piston rod, which I have no idea what it does. So what I did was move the tube below that disc the spring presses against, therefore making the spring a little stiffer. It's not the best fix, but it kinda works and it now pushes itself back up. My description might not make much sense, hopefully the pictures do. I may opt for some better springs in the future though.
  2. Not too long ago, I finished building a Tamiya Aqroshot which included the DT-03 CVA damper set. I followed the instructions to build the dampers 100%. Once the build was done, I noticed that the front dampers were fine and could push the chassis back up, but the rear dampers are very stiff and are unable to lift the chassis without me lifting it up myself. All the parts were used, nothing was left over. I filled the dampers with oil to the top and cleaned any overspill, I remove the air bubbles as I went. It's like the spring itself has no resistance (right word?) when compressed. Does anyone have any idea why just the rear dampers are doing this? Is it normal and has anyone experienced this before with this damper set? Any help would be awesome.. I wanted to drive this tomorrow!
  3. For sale is my Ford Escort RS Cosworth Repsol body-shell. Due to it's age, it's not in the best of conditions sadly. For starters... most of the red paint at the rear of the shell has cracked off. Having bought a new can of the same colour, I discovered that the paint wasn't sticking to shell very well. Also, some of the orange paint is cracking off, which I "fixed" with some brighter orange... yeah, you can see it clearly. I covered the rear of the shell in red electrical tape to hide the missing paint... doesn't look TOO terrible like that, lol. There is also some damage to the front right corner, which has been fixed with super glue. It was a valiant effort, doesn't look too bad. Some of the stickers, notably the stickers that make up the window surrounds, are peeling. The side lights, fog/indicator stickers and the lower grille are actually printouts of the original sticker sheet, covered with sellotape to make them glossy and attached with double-sided tape, and the lights are silver and red Sharpie.. but should come off easily with the correct cleaner. There have been two additional holes drilled to allow it to fit on my TT-01 chassis, as well as the original TA-01 chassis. That being said, it's not in bad condition. If you have the time and patience... and some major skills... there is no reason you couldn't bring this shell back to life, removing the paint with some solvent (such as non-acetone nail polish remover) and respray, or even respray the outside. While I do not really want to sell, it's only going to get worse over time and I don't have the skills or money to refurbish it, so I'd like it to go to someone who can. At the moment, I'm open to offers. I know it's in pretty bad condition (just as it was when I bought it 5 years ago off eBay) but it's still a rare shell.. but not AS rare as those in better condition. Thanks for looking, and for any interest you show!
  4. WANTED: Tamiya Hornet C-Parts and D-Parts... More specifically, I'm after the battery cover from the C-Parts and the body-mounts (body posts) from the D-Parts. Having spent a butt load of money restoring this Hornet, my budget is somewhat tight at the moment. While I'd like to have BOTH sets complete, I really need those two listed items. If someone does have both Parts for a decent price (possibly between £10-£15) then I'll take them. otherwise, if someone has JUST the batter cover (in good condition, no scratches) and the body posts, I'll take them instead. PM me if you have them. Many thanks
  5. So the Hornet is now complete... the aerial tube and a new Ansmann 3000MAh battery showed up today. The last two things I was waiting for. So now the Hornet is on charge, and then I'll test the thing out... since I started this restore, I haven't really tested it properly on the floor, road etc, so fingers crossed it works. Just need to get a second Hornet shell, and I'll use one for on-roading, and one for off-roading... so one can get damaged while one remains clean. Anyway, here is the Hornet with my TT-01, using the Ford Escort Cosworth Repsol shell: And with my other two shells (Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 and R34): I kinda want to sell the Escort shell, but it's not in the best condition. This thread has died down in recent days, but I'll continue to add to it once I get the new Hornet shell
  6. DynamiteD - Thanks! It's been going well, save for the ESC problem mentioned below (now sorted). Will soon be time to test it out... once it stops raining Well this Hornet isn't going anywhere fast, as I need some help with the ESC. It's an Etronix Probe Plus as mentioned above, and it's having problems doing... anything. The first time I used it, it seemed to work OK... reverse was a little low, but it worked. However, in order to even GET it to reverse, i had to adjust th trim on the transmitter all the way down. I wanted to try and adjust this, to make the forward more sensitive and the reverse a little faster, so I started messing with the SET button... this was a very bad idea. The manual for the ESC is absolute poop, and gives no mention of the SET button whatsoever. In fact.. after a quick search on the internet, there is nothing there either. It's like it was just placed there as an afterthought, and even Etronix do not know what it does. Either way, I've got forward working, to some extent as it's not very sensitive, and now reverse has gone completely. I've been at for about an hour now, trying all sorts of buttons combinations... holding it down, pressing it 2 times 3, 4, 5, etc... nothing is working. Also, sometimes it'll just start going forward on it's own without me pushing the stick forward, and it ALWAYS starts moving forward when I power on the car. Does anyone have any knowledge of this rather crappy ESC? Seriously.. it's cheap, but do not get one... it's terrible, and you can NOT calibrate it properly... even though it claims to do it itself. UPDATE: Figured it out... finally. Had to look on t'internet for a manual for a Hobbywing ESC, since it seems that the Etronix is just a rebranded version. So after following that, the forward, brake and reverse all work, with the transmitter trim dead center Why Etronix omitted ANY information regarding the SET button or how to use is beyond me, stupid choice on their part.
  7. I have for sale three random items, that I no longer need. Continue perusing if you are interested... The crystal set, the waveband is 27.145MHz, thus will only work in 27HMz transmitters and receivers, but should fit ANY transmitter and receiver. Next, I have a brand new Tamiya TLU-01 light unit. Bought not long ago, and not even used. When purchased, it came with no LEDs, but I'll include a pair 3mm white LEDs (a;; I have left). Lastly, I have a Vapex "Smart" charger, model VTE500P. The charger will cut off once the battery is charged. However, it does sometimes give "false peaks" where the charger incorrectly thinks the battery is full. Just check the temp of the battery... if it's still cool, unplug it and plug it in again until it's warm to the touch. The prices are as follows: Crystals: £3.50 TLU-01: £20.00 Charger: £13.00 Postage for any of them should equate to about £2 since they're all fairly small and light. If any of them interest you, feel free to drop me a PM
  8. Hmm... I'll give it a go with the pivot point locked and see how it goes. And at least one roll is better than two! Also, onto some updates. The body has been stickered-up with a select few stickers. I didn't use them all, nor did I want to plaster them all over the place. I've also pretty much finished installing all the components into the chassis as well, using very strong doubled sided sticky pads and a cable ties... I always find cable ties are invaluable these days. The photos below will show my progress... And here it is with the body attached... I plan to purchase a HPI Racing Saturn 20T motor to replace the Launcher AR 17x2T motor. For one, I may need to make it a little slower, especially with it's archaic suspension, and also because, as you'll see below, the motor is a little bit exposed to the elements... It does seems to make a bit of a clicking noise when it moves, not sure why. It usually appears louder when either pulling away or slowing down. Anyone have any ideas? Anyway, just ordered an antenna tube, since somehow I forgot to get one, so now I just need that to arrive. I think I might need a new battery, as the one I'm using doesn't seem to hold a charge for very long. Once the Hornet is complete, I'll look into purchasing a second body shell. I'd like to do another one since I enjoyed doing this one, but since I pan to hopefully take this off-road, I'd like to keep one shell in good condition and let the other shell get properly dirty THEN I'll try to start repairing the original shell that came with it. It seems to have been hand-painted silver, there's a few cracks, some of the paint has come away, and the spoiler was thrown away. I'll get some silver paint, paint the inside AND the outside, and possibly find a 3rd party plastic spoiler and make it fit. Lastly, I do have some questions regarding my ESC. It's an Etronix Probe Plus ET0101, and there's some odd things about it, very different from my Mtronix TIO 14T ESC in the TT-01. So if anyone reading this is savvy on the Etronix Probe Plus, I'll be asking a few questions here next time
  9. I plan to, but I'm not sure what mods to do. I'd like to upgrade the front and rear suspension at some point, and especially the steering linkage, as I don't think the steering will hold up very well with the speed it'll hopefully be running at. I'll also possibly put a slightly SLOWER motor in it just to help make it more manageable. And I also did the same as you, where I locked the pivot at the gearbox, but people said having it unlocked makes the car a bit more stable when the rear wheels are lifted off the ground... I don't know really. Haven't really tested it that much,
  10. Right, FINALLY I have all the parts I need to start building properly. Today, the plastic Z-Parts arrived, which consist of the dismembered driver and the lights (the driver won't be used and was sold to a fellow TC member) and the 18T pinion gear arrived. Thankfully, fits in the gearbox perfectly and does move the rear wheels. A quick test showed it worked, but at the same time showed that the battery I used either wasn't fully charged or is faulty... because it died in 2 minutes. Oh well, photos looming... So, more photos to come as I build it. Motor, ESC and receiver installation to follow
  11. Oooooh... sorry bud, but unfortunately the guy above is buying them. If for any reason it falls through, I'll post back.
  12. ITEM HAS NOW BEEN SOLD. I have here for sale a pair of brand new... still have that fresh rubber smell... rear tyres for a Tamiya Hornet, but should also fit wheel designed for the Grasshopper chassis. They're the tyres ONLY, as they do not come with the central hubs or wheel nuts. See photos below if you want to check them out. PM me if you are interested, I'm open to offers
  13. March75 - I do have a couple of battery covers I do not need, but I think they may too vintage for you. They're quite scratched and scuffed from a lot of use over the many years. And one has a P on it for some reason. And the driver I have looks like he died in a car accident many decades ago. Alas, no spoiler though. I do have a set of brand new rear tyres, as well as an old chassis. Let me know what you think of the battery covers and driver. As I said, they're a bit.. used I'll photos some pictures and let you decide.
  14. I'm a bit clumsy, which is why I always paint after I trim. Normally when I trim my own body-shell, I spend ages smoothing out the edges as much as I can, I'm OCD like that As for what bits of plastic... it's nothing major or even noticeable, but I know it's there and that's whats bothering me. It's mostly the bottom edges all around the shell, bits at the back and a few little parts here and there. Like I said, they aren't really noticeable, but as previously mentioned... I'm OCD like that, unless I'm sure they don't exist, they'll bother me I may have a go at the masking tape idea, and have an attempt. Either way, since I quite enjoyed painting up the first shell, I'd like to do it again. I still have the original shell to try and restore as well, so by the end I cold have 3 shells.
  15. True enough, I could still trim the body, but I don't trust myself to not scratch or damage the paint while I do it. I'll have to settle in getting a new shell at some point and starting afresh, and fortunately, I quite enjoy doing that And that one at ModelSport, I emailed them a few minutes ago to see if and when they expect new stock, and they replied back with "should be August 10th" ...so if all goes well, I may not have to wait long. Yeah, one can is definitely not enough. My recent TT-01 shell took THREE cans in all, and was still a little transparent at the end. I figured the Hornet shell would only need one since it's a lot smaller, but I was wrong. Next time... TWO cans, metallic red But oh well, all I can do is wait until ModelSport get the shell in stock, or someone comes by with a spare unpainted erz1 And some very nice Hornets there, Terz1. Well, one nice Hornet and one nice baja-Hornet hybrid
  16. Terz1 - I do like the colour. Although I kinda like red as well. I'm happy I managed to prevent you from getting some sleep by making you start messing about with your Hornet, and I mean that in a nice way, lol. Nitomor - Hm-hm, bot the front and rear wheels went on the Hornet without a problem. The front wheels easily clear the bumper when turning. They fit perfectly. I changed the original wheels as I didn't believe the skinny front tyres would have given it much road holding. On to some updates. The body is done, the masks are pealed off and so is the protective film. Placed it on the chassis temporarily to see how it looks. Looks quite nice, although I'm not sure which stickers to apply. I don't want all of them, just a select few. Now, I'm not 100% satisfied with how the body came out. The reasons being... the original owner did a good job at trimming the body shell out, but what I didn't notice was that there were quite a few bits of excess plastic that needed to be trimmed sightly. If I saw them before painting, I'd have trimmed them back a little. The second is the paint. Nothing wrong with it, but I should have thought to get TWO cans. The paint still looks quite thin. Not noticeable when the body is on the car, but it's there.. and it bugs me a little. This brings me on to this question. If anyone has a Tamiya Hornet body shell... as long as it's unpainted, I'd be happy to purchase it off you if it's for sale. Or, if you feel like donating it to good cause, then I'll gladly accept But yeah, I'd like a second attempt at a body. The second shell will probably be metallic red, better trimmed AND thicker paint. So please.. if anyone has a Hornet body shell for sale... let me know
  17. Right, the metallic green paint has been applied to the body, and apart from needing to remove the masks and protective film, the body is done. Oh, I need to attach the spoiler as well to complete the look. All that dust and stuff you see is on the outside, so it'll all come off once the film has been removed. I'll take some photos of the body once that has been done. Also, arrived this morning is my set of new Tamiya Subaru Brat wheels and tyres. They just went right on... no fuss, no mess. They look kinda nice too. Just awaiting the arrival of the pinion gear, and then to get the plastic Z-Parts from somewhere. If anyone has the parts... the driver and lights... and are willing to sell them, let me know, I'll probably nab them off you.
  18. Mongoose1983 - Ah, you are correct. Fortunately, I do have one. I actually took it off the servo to see how it would work with a normal servo horn. But I'll do as you suggest and reinstall the servo saver. I don't want to destroy any gears. I may replace the current servo saver with an aluminum one in the future, as well as a servo with metal gears, just to give it additional strength. I did clean the body a bit more after those photos were taken, so hopefully everything went fine. I haven't actually looked at the body since I applied the final coat. And hm-hm, I'll certainly do what I can about uploading some photos of the Hornet in action. I'll probably have my friend take photos XV Pilot - It's an original, hm? With the soft alloy...? I'll keep an eye on it as I run it and replace when required. Once that happens, I'll try to replace it with a steel one the second time round.
  19. Just so I don't end up making myself look like a tit, this is the one I purchased. Is it suitable (and IS it actually steel)?? I should have asked this first, just in case: http://www.modelsport.co.uk/tamiya-18t-pinion-gear/rc-car-products/366437
  20. It does? Dang... er, so you think that the 32DP pinion will be fine, or will I need anything else in order to make it fit the gears without grinding? And yep, I went for a steel pinion. If I do need that 18T 0.8 module pinion, might you know the best place to acquire one?
  21. OK, so i guess the "fun" can now commence. All the pieces are ready to be build and/or painted. Starting with the body. The windows have been masked off... they're so small it seems almost pointless to even do. I didn't like cutting out the masks, though. I'm used to just peeling them off. I've started painting it, but at the moment I've not taken any photos of it. I've also temporarily placed the components in the chassis, to see how everything will fit and to give a quick test to see if everything works... thankfully, it does Unfortunately, the motor couldn't turn the wheels. The reason being that the 24T pinion gear is too big, and puts too much force between it at the gears, so all the motor does is squeal like it's in pain. After a bit of research, I found that the Hornet needs an 18T 32DP pinion gear. I promptly purchased one from ModelSport UK, hopefully it'll arrive soon, as I cannot fully assemble the car until I have it. Anyhoo... more updates to follow!
  22. Woo.... so the receiver finally arrived this morning. Just waiting on the Tamiya Subaru Brat wheels/tyres and then I need to get the plastic Z-Parts to complete the shell. Also just realized I still need to obtain an antenna tube, as I don't have one yet. Anyway, now that I have the most important parts needed to get it working, I can finally start building the thing, starting with the body shell, I think. Photos and updates as they come
  23. So as it turns out... Metallic Green looks really rather nice. Glad I went with that in the end. Can't wait to start the painting, and see what it looks like in real life, so to speak. Although the red Hornet looks quite good, too! Not quite brave enough to go for a multi-coloured one though, haha.
  24. A very small and brief update. The paint for the body and the speed controller showed up today, so that's two more item crossed off the list. I couldn't decide what colour to paint the body. I currently have a TT-01 with several shells in red, silver, blue and yellow, so I didn't want another one of those colours. I considered metallic purple, but I have another body shell I'd like to paint that colour. In the end, I opted for a simple metallic green. Not sure how it will look once painted, but... hopefully it'll look nice enough. And the speed controller. It's an Etronix Probe Plus ESC, for brushed motors, with a 14t limit. My motor is a 17t so that limit is fine. I'll take some better photos of the ESC out of it's packaging once the time comes for me to start the build. I'm currently awaiting the delivery of a Futaba 40MHz receiver and a set of brand new assembled Tamiya Subaru Brat wheels. After that, all I need are the plastic Z-Parts which consist of the full floating torso apparition driver and the lights. Once the receiver arrives, I'll start the build. That SHOULD be either tomorrow or Wednesday. So, more updates soon!!
  25. Thanks to everyone who helped me out here. A quick update though, I recently had an offer to buy a complete set of brand new wheels and tyres, fully assembled, a few minutes ago. I purchased them ASAP before he changed him mind, lol. Much kudos again to all of you helped me out
