WANTED: Maverick DesertWolf Centre Diff
TrueBlue replied to TrueBlue's topic in Sales, trades & wanted
You only have one Tamiya?? Dude.. get more. They're awesome! Also... what the eff? So many spares! It's like Christmas has come early! You can still get TimberWolf wheels complete with tyres? Or did you already have those? Can't find the DesertWolf ones anywhere, lucky you still have the originals. The only original part I'd request are the original wheel hexes. Man, I have to wait for Modelsport to receive my new body before they can send it out.. better come with the wing, or I'll be a little be mad, since that's the reason I bought one. But. can't hurt to have a butt-load of spare parts, especially for the vehicles you tend to use the most, they're more likely to get broken.- 340 replies

It's surprisingly hard! Most people probably wouldn't care, but... I guess we're no most people, haha. Annoying, but given the scarcity of the wing, it's only way to get one. My original body is in good condition, but the odd scuff here and there. I'll use the new body and wing for the shelf and the original shell and wing for bashing. The wing comes off in like 10 seconds with 2 screws, so not much of a faff. The original nose cone will stay, since it's so small the scuffs are barely visible. Blegh... now to wait 3-7 days for them to ship it out... did you by any chance get the last one that was In Stock? Very wrong. I mean could have been a one off, but still. You'd think their printing process would get it right every time.- 340 replies

The wing decals looked the same.. but not sure if they were the same. Because I was possibly going to use that iridescent body for bashing, I decided to remove the decals from the wing, and put some different ones on, including some Modelsport decals on the sides. What I did do was cut the Maverick logo out and put that on the wing... because I did that, I didn't have any issues with it fitting. This one, I wanted to put the entire decal on, only to find it didn't fit. So I cut the Maverick logo out again, so that it would fit. which it does... but some dirt or debris got under the decal. Tried to remove it. Made it worse, lol. So... even though they're currently supplier stock and will have to wait a while... I bought a pre-painted shell from Modelsport just as you did in order to get a wing with properly fitting decals... £39 inc shipping just for the wing. Well, the wing IS rather rare now so, it might be worth it in the long run? If I just keep telling myself that, lol.- 340 replies

Well, you'd certainly THINK they'd make their decals fit their wing... but this one didn't. No idea if it was a one off, bad luck, bad batch... but yeah, the decal wouldn't fit within the 6 small vertical fins, they were completely off centre, kind of like the wing mounting holes on the Vorza wing.- 340 replies

Yep... the large Maverick logo decal didn't fit properly on the original DW wing. In trying to make it fit, I kind of made it a little worse. So now it looks awful. I'm very OCD when it comes to certain things, and this is making me want another body jut so I can get the wing with the decals already applied and fitting properly! And no, no Maverick decals for the Vorza wing... will try the HPI decals. Bound to be some that will fit. Hopefully- 340 replies

TrueBlue replied to TrueBlue's topic in Sales, trades & wanted
Well, I do have an HPI Bullet shell that has two sets of decals, with plenty of spare HPI decals. Once I've painted the Bullet, I can use the spare decals on the Vorza wing. And I might may to use some on the original DW wing as well.. I started putting the original decals on the wing. All was going well, until I needed to put on the large Maverick logo decal. It didn't fit. The gaps in the sticker for the vertical fins were completely out of alignment and was impossible to fit. I cut out the Maverick logo, then cut out the orange and gold parts on the sides. Unfortunately, the Maverick logo didn't go so well. Something got caught underneath and created a large bump. I tried removing the decal to remove the bump but ruined the underside of the decal. Now the bump is even bigger, I can't get rid of it looks not nice. So I either have to use some larger HPI decals from my Bullet, or buy a pre-painted JUST for the wing with it's properly applied stickers.- 340 replies

For me, it's kinda been Wheelspin for Desertwolf parts. It's where I got all the spare parts.. I got the electronics from Modelsport though. Modelsport are definitely better when it comes to electronics, wheels, tyres... Wheelspin seem to have a very small selection of those types of thing. Except paint... I get a lot of paint there. Wait... so... 3 body shells, 2 nose cones and 3 wings? Yeah, I guess you might be one with Desertwolf bodies, lol. Hm.. well, I don't seem to have many decals to put on it. I've put a Modelsport sticker on it, 2 SRT Racing stickers on the end plates.. the brand of servo I bought for the DW... and a HobbyWing sticker. So.. it's a bit naff looking, haha.- 340 replies

Haha... well... would you look at that! It does actually come with the wing! Colour me surprised for sure. Now you have two.. or more? If you have more than two, you can replace the battered one with one of the fresh ones maybe... since it came in the sealed bag, I wonder if the other places that said it doesn't come with the wing got it wrong? Maybe they just didn't turn the thing upside down! But hey.. now we know the truth! It comes with the fabled Desertwolf wing!! And er.. kinda one-ups my Vorza wing discovery , lol.- 340 replies

I can put some random decals on it... but the Desertwolf decals... yeah, I put back on the original wing, since I'm painting it orange and colours on the wing decals are also orange. As for painting the Vorza wing. I'm not actually sure now. I've got it to fit which his good, but now I'm concerned that by painting it, I'll ruin it. Having said that, now that I know I can get it to fit, I might buy another one at some point and paint that one instead. Only issue is, if it rolls over, it'll scratch off the paint.- 340 replies

I have a bit of a dilemma with the decals. Since bought a clear shell, I obviously have wing decals well... which I was going to put back on my original wing to make it look the way it's supposed to. If I do that, I won't have any decals for the Vorza wing... decisions decisions.- 340 replies

Lol, yes.. I just wide each hole a little bigger. And this is a picture of the Vorza wing on the Desertwolf. I tried to get a photo of both wings in order to see the size difference, which isn't a lot to be honest.- 340 replies

Well, it took a little bit of cutting.. and a bit of mess... but I elongated each hole (otherwise it would have been more to one side) using an X-Acto knife and sandpaper wrapped around a drill bit, lol. Nowhere near enough surface room to use a drill bit to make the hole, so had to do it manually. Used masking tape as lines to follow... but it is possible! As for the decals. This wing is actually a bit bigger than the original. Slightly wider and the end plates are bigger too. The decals might fit without a lot of cutting, if any. The top decals might fit, but also might need a bit of fiddling to get right.- 340 replies

Ooh, the Vorza wing arrived! And... Yeah.. doesn't fit. Mounting holes are too far apart. If I measure properly, I could drill out the holes to make it fit... but yeah, doesn't fit. Boo!- 340 replies

Thanks to the condition of my original body and wing, as well as the wheels, mine also looks like shelf queen at this point. Not sure how long it'll stay that way, I don't want to bash it too hard after all. Ah, gotta wait till Thursday? I think I have to wait till Thursday for the Vorza wing to arrive. So I guess we'll have the answer to both these questions in one more day, hopefully. Haha, it was a decent job. Not too hard though, one can of iridescent and one can of black, no masking to do... simple job. I wouldn't say I went off it, but I think the orange will better suit it, even if it's metallic. Hm, makes sense. More results when using the product number, since many Maverick parts aren't restricted to the Desertwolf or Timberwolf. I thought the Desertwolf was a lot older than 2015, until you showed me that video. Not even 10 years old yet, and presumably discontinued after only 3 years. Well, given the amount of spares and upgrades on sites like Wheelspin.. looks like a fair amount of parts were made for them in those 3 short years. Lucky for us though... we can still (for now) buy the spare parts we may need.- 340 replies

Ah, so the new one looks better when on the shelf. Naturally. Yeah, I'd definitely use the older used shell for bashing. Shame the nose cone is a small pain to swap out, since it's screwed in. But since it seems you only have the one nose cone (?) it's not probably not too much of a bother. Well, I hope the glue keeps the old decals stuck down well. It's only for bashing though, as you say... so it's good enough I'm sure. More conflicting answers... yes it does, no it doesn't... everyone seems to have different types of stock when it comes to this pre-painted shell. Well, unless the one you purchased from Modelsport also doesn't have the wing... Speaking of the shells, I put two body shells on eBay, including the first clear Desertwolf shell that I painted Tamiya Iridescent Purple and Green. Not a lot of interest, for some reason. It's the only result on eBay if you search for Maverick Desertwolf. Give's an interesting insight into how many people are still dabbling with the Desertwolf.- 340 replies

I'll let you know once it arrives! You put your original used shell in the bag? And keeping the new one on the buggy? Wouldn't it better to keep the new one in the bag, so it stays in good condition? Or was the original shell rather damaged? And how did the wing tidy come out? New decals on it? Did you try and sand down any of the chips and scratches so they were smooth-ish? I just assumed when they say w/Decals, it just means they came with them pre-applied. That was always my assumption, but could be wrong. Not including the wing decals because they included the wing with decals would make sense.- 340 replies

Oooh... he's only gone and done it, lol. So, I guess in a few days we'll see if Modelsports pre-painted shells do indeed come with the wing. And if it does... keep it in a museum, lol. Also, speaking of... I've also purchased the Vorza wing, otherwise called the HPI Deck Wing, from Make It Build It on eBay., Should be here Thursday or Friday. And we'll see if the Vorza wing is a direct fit for the Desertwolf.- 340 replies

That does make sense. Modelsports stock is older and therefor still had the wing, while Wheelspins stock was "updated" to exclude the wing when it became discontinued. Guess I know where I'm gonna buy a pre-painted shell from. Maybe.. possibly.- 340 replies

So Modelsport and Wheelspin have conflicting answers? That's... not confusing at all. So Modelsport says the pre-painted shells come with a wing and Wheelspin says they DON'T come with a wing? Could Modelsports stock somehow have the wing, and Wheelspins' stock is different...?- 340 replies

Ah, IF... didn't see that bit. Speaking of emails... I still haven't heard back from Modelsport about my question regarding the pre-painted body shells and the wing. Thought they'd have responded by now. Love how every website just uses the same copy-paste description for this body shell, without adding any information that they might have found out... like an included wing! I haven't ordered anything from either of them before, so no idea what they're like. I've ALMOST ordered something from Modellbau, but didn't... saving ht epennies. Modellbua has then actually in stock rather than shadow/supplier stock.. impressive. And it's a little cheaper.- 340 replies

So it's included with ALL pre-painted shells? Good to know... I might have to take advantage of that one day, as long as I can still find a shall. It's possible that the lack of interest and poor sales could have contributed to many of the DesertWolfs spare parts being hard to find, even something as simple as a plastic wing. Same goes for the pre-painted shells, being sold in small quantities on various sites.- 340 replies

It was a good idea, not seen it before or since.. just a shame it looks odd, at least to me.. with that very steep looking window, lol. My clear bodies, I've only drilled the holes needed to have it the way I prefer it. makes it look cleaner. I might also sell my first clear body that I painted in Tamiya iridescent Purple and Green, since I have another clear shell to paint. So the shell is available from Maverick in the Netherlands? So does that mean they CAN back order it if needed? Nose cone should be a given, no reason for it NOT to be included, otherwise that would just be silly. Would be good if it included the wing as well... part of me is saying get a pre-painted shell just for the wing, lol.- 340 replies

So they've pretty much straight-up told you the pre-painted bodies come with the wing. Well, at least the bodies THEY sell do... which is quite surprising, given the fact the wing is impossible to find separate. I'll definitely get the Vorza wing and see if it fits. The Vorza is also 1/8 scale, and looks like it uses a similar wing bracket to the DesertWolf... so, a good chance it'll fit. I'll probably try to get one in the next few weeks. If it does fit, at least there's a cheap alternative if the original wing get's damaged or destroyed.- 340 replies

Well, I'm still waiting for Modelsport to respond about the pre-painted shell coming with a wing... I did email them on Friday though, so hopefully will reply on Monday. I'll definitely get a Vorza wing though, they're less than £10 on eBay. If it fits, great.. we have an alternative wing if needed, but the original DW decals don't look like they'll fit on the Vorza wing. well, they might.. but looks like you'd have to do some trimming to the decals.- 340 replies
