  1. hi peeps... This is all new to me, so am picking up bits as I go and trying to understand stuff from other peoples posts..... Looked at LOTS of servo's.... Just been reading about 'BlueBird' servo's... My Soon to be built TT02 will run 2.4ghz digital TX/RX TEU-105BK ESC + Tamiya GT-Tuned motor (25T , although might bang in a SuperStock RZ 23T), future wise I will change ESC, but will keep the Tamiya ESC for now whilst learning... 3 Servo's catch my attention, all metal gear and Digital, but have no idea what all the fancy stuff means, and cant figure out the weight stuff ? like: 7.5kg / .10 sec / 46.5g . At first, I thought it meant the thing weighed 7kg! but figured that's like a suitcase on the car! So 2 things, what does that mean? and can any of these 3 servo's do the job ? (street racing, aimed for high speed runs), and some 'run for fun' in my local RC club with plenty wall-bashing! BlueBird BMS 621DMG+HS - £11.21 - http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__9439__BMS_621DMGplusHS_High_Speed_Digital_Servo_MG_7_2kg_10sec_46_5g.html BlueBird BMS 811DMG+HS - £16.48 - http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__8767__BMS_811DMGplusHS_High_Performance_Digital_Servo_Metal_Gear_5_0kg_15sec_45g.html BlueBird BMS 810DMG+HS - £16.48 - http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__8766__BMS_810DMG_HS_High_Performance_Digital_Servo_Metal_Gear_7_2kg_19sec_45g.html and batteries will be LiFEpo4 & Lipo.
  2. cheers! Recommendations for a replacement/hop-up pinion please to go with a 68T spur thingy
  3. Me Again! :) I'm ordering these parts: Tamiya 54500 - (High Speed Gear Set 68T) Tamiya 54501 - (Prop Shaft) Tamiya 54502 - (Prop Joint) As for the 68T Gear set, would a standard pinion be just fine, or could I use a pinion from the TT-01 setup ?? I can see these parts: Tamiya 50356 - (20T,21T AV Pinion Gear) - looks metal, so I assume it is! :D Tamiya 50357 - (22T,23T AV Pinion Gear) - same as above As you can guess with me, I have no idea what i'm talking about, but after reading many posts on here, the pinion as I understand it will wear away, so best to buy a metal one which lasts ? Where I get confused is, the numbers on the pinion, so would I get a 20T/21T or a 22T/23T ?? My aim for the car is max speed, not so fussed on acceleration....
  4. cheers for the advice, I only picked that servo in the 1st place as it sounded fancy!! :D As said, its all new to me, just wanting to build a good setup without going crazy money wise! I did read about a Futaba S3004 for £15 But unsure if that will like being bashed against the walls on track ?! :) Happy to go with the Alturn, as it says its digital, so I assume that's a good thing!
  5. cheers :) ok... Servo's I see lots of servo's all saying they do the same thing, etc... I'll be using a 23T or 25T motor... So I assumed I would need something like this: http://www.modelsport.co.uk/ansmann-racing-ex-high-speed-servo-ar-700bb-7.2kg-/rc-car-products/372661 Or could I get away with just using a standard carson servo ?? I don't understand the difference, etc
  6. how long does a charge normally take anyway ?
  7. Morning all, The Imax B6 charger for Lipo.... Does this have the option pre-set for half charging batteries ? Am re-reading the battery advice from speedy_beans about storing lipo batteries, and states to store at half charge.... Just wondering if the charger unit has the option to charge to 50% ? Also, if a battery is 50% charged, and then I want to use the car, is it a case of charging the battery to 100% which would take around 25 min's ? cheers
  8. Lipo Chargerhttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330897310942?var=540181127012&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Shows adaptor and plug.... LiFe.................. Thought that was the same as Lipo ?!! Understood about the ESC... Guess I could sell the TEU-105BK and buy one of the Modelsport ones mentioned already, or an Etronix one I have seen..... See, its all confusing this lipo stuff!! :D Just reading about LiFE now (6.6v) @ 4200mah power packs.....
  9. As much as the Lipo is gonna take some Brain Power for me, I think I understand how it works as long as i read stuff.... Here are the definates that i will be buying: IMAX B6 charger (£32) Turnigy 4000mah 2S Lipo battery for £23 Lipo Bag - £4 TT-02 Kit which includes the TEU-105BK ESC = £113 (I assume that ESC will work with LIPO/NimH ??) Tamiya SuperStock RZ Motor (23T) = £24 (star Aviva HongKong) (or if i have to stick with 25T, then the Tamiya GT-Tuned motor) Hop-up Spur Set / Prop Shaft / Prop Joints & Ball Bearing Set (16) = under £35 Turnigy GTX3 - Controller and Receiver = £40 I had high lighted the "Ansmann Racing EX-High Speed Servo AR-700BB" which is £20, but unsure if i need that? Can you recommend a servo which is under £20 that will fit with my setup ?
  10. cheers Club stuff will come 2nd, tarmac will be 1st (I guess for me building the thing will be the main fun part!) As it is, I learn from the questions I post and answers given, just been reading into the B6 Imax charger, with + & - reviews, etc... Trying to understand/figure out if I have a 3300mah lipo battery, does that mean there is a setting on the charger unit for 3.3amp charge thing ? (which in theory would take 40 mins to charge?) Ideally, want a charger unit I plug the battery in, press charge, it does its thing, and then goes to trickle or off (I remember that from Nimh batteries ) One other thing, and this stems from reading all about the Lipo vs NimH stuff........... if both batteries were 3300maH, then both have the same run time, but the Lipo battery will give the car a bit more punch on acceleration due to 0.2v extra ?? so handy for fast starts, fast out of cornering, etc on the Lipo setup ???
  11. If the link works, i'm looking at this.... As it contains a Battery, an ESC which is Lipo setup, and has a motor (I was going to buy the Tamiya SuperStock RZ anyway)... States its a 10.5T brushless motor... Brand I guess is one of the Chinese ones, not sure if that's a good or bad thing ? (X-Fly XC) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/X-fly-XC-35A-ESC-10-5turn-motor-3300mAh-programme-box-Lipo-UK-stock-/321245726331?pt=UK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN&hash=item4acbbcc67b The cost will be £60 for the ESC + 3300mh lipo bat + 10.5t motor + program box thing (I see it as £20 for esc, £20 for motor, £20 for battery ) As said, unsure if this is a bad thing, guess i'm looking for ESC's that come with LIPO connectors already, not Tamiya plugs (which most seem to do ?) Soldering not a problem too, but how do the Tamiya to Deans connectors hold up anyway ? (Etronix brand)
  12. how do u connect the Lipo batteries, as the connectors on most ESC's I look at, have the Tamiya style plug ? am looking at batteries and chargers, just cant figure out the connecting points! and I am going for the TT-02 after the advice......
  13. understood with the battery stuff, just had a good read about the lipo from the above link... I guess the battery stuff will be last on my list, so can go down the lipo route after I got the other bits.... I'll choose Lipo over NimH not for the speed and power etc, but because as I just read, its more the future of where battery related equipment is going...... Defo want to buy new, so have looked at the TT02 stuff and the few hop up parts there are..... I guess my main thing I want, is the full ball bearing stuff, the joints, prop shaft, and some other blue fancy parts :D , looks like I can get both for the TT01 and TT02.... As said guys, cheers for the input, helps a lot! The other thing I need advice on is the ESC and motors..... I'm going for the TEU-105BK ESC, and was hoping to use a GT-Tuned motor or SuperStock RZ..... those should work together ????
  14. Thank you for the advice guys, helps a lot... Didn't really know about the TT-02, just figured that the TT-01 was what everyone was using ? Although I had a TA-05, I didn't know what I was buying at the time, didn't know it was a good chassis! Looking at these TT-02 (choosing this over TA-05, as A: cheaper, and B: I need entry level to learn I guess, so TT is the right choice for now ) If I am understanding this correctly, a lot of the hop-up parts for the TT-01 are the same for the TT-02 ?? So I can buy a few upgrade parts (used & new) As the TT-02 is newer (although the shells aren't as nice!), i'll probably go for one of these kits...... The lipo battery stuff I cant get my head round, as I remember guys at the race club I went to years ago saying you need different connectors, different ESC, etc..... Is that right ?
  15. Very useful, cheers! :) Looked into the Lipo battery stuff, but gets completed, so will stick with the normal batteries/brushed motor for this project, and possibly late next year go for a bigger build with lipo+Power... Understand what your saying about the weakspots, guess it makes sense! For some reason, I thought the blue Alumi' prop shaft came with the TT01R, could be wrong though.... As said, for me, its more about knowing which parts I can and cant add to the TT01... Same goes for the Motor..... I have read on here that the TEU-150BK ESC is rated for 25T motors, but some are running the SuperStock RZ motors on that ESC without issues... hmmmmmmmmmmmmm !! :D And yeah, wanting to keep a normal car for normal 'fun racing', I wont be competing..... Just want a car which has a bit more strength, and a faster motor!
  16. Hi all, I am new to the RC scene, in terms of wanting to build one from scratch... I bought a TA-05 car 2 years ago, someone had already built it as a shelf queen, looked like standard parts + Tamiya Sport Tuned Motor. From that, I didn't get chance to learn about the RC setup, just went straight in with razzing it in the street, which was great fun, and easy to drive.... Then I got introduced to an RC club, went along, and did the carpet racing indoors. For me, not having a clue, this is where it went wrong, tires didn't like carpet, everyone else was twice as fast, but more importantly, I was like Tom Cruise in 'Days of Thunder', ie: I hit everything!! After a few sessions, I got the hang of the track, but still kept on bashing into the walls, which eventually killed my car, the drive shaft/dogbone thingys wouldn't stay in, so wheels wouldn't spin, etc... Eventually sold as Spares and gave up the idea... However, am back on the case again, and want to build my own, and learn from the ground up, so would appreciate some help here please :) I set myself a budget of upto £300, to build a car which I will use outdoor (dry), and hopefully race indoors on carpet with other RC peeps (against other slow drivers!) I like the look of other cars I see which have the blue hop-up parts, that also makes me think the hop-up parts are a bit stronger, so in terms of novices like me, can take a bashing when on a track (well, a bit better than normal parts!)... So ideally, I was looking to buy a few hop-up parts which strengthen the wheel area for when hitting walls.... However, I wouldn't know where to start with which bag of bits to buy ? My shopping list currently: TT-01E - Nissan GTR Shell - comes with std Silver can and a TEU-104BK ESC = £126 Turnigy GTX3 2.4gz controller/Receiver = £40 (I assume it will work with any Tamiya ESC ??) or cheapo alternative is a 'FLY SKY FS-GT2' control/rece for £19 Ansmann Racing EX-High Speed Servo AR-700BB = £17.24 / or High Torque AR-710BB , same price.... wouldn't know which to choose... Charger I like the look of is a x2 battery charger - Fusion NX82 = £28 (and a few batteries which are 3000 or higher) That list is basic, but enough to get me started in building something that would run... Guess I would need Paint, Tamiya toolkit and possibly a cutter if shell not already cut? But............. These are the other things I looked at which I like.. TEU-105BK ESC = £23 Sport Tuned motor = £19 / Tamiya GT-Tuned motor = £25 / Tamiya SuperStock RZ motor = £36 And this: this is what I think would be a good idea............... Tamiya TT-01R KIT, comes with a Tamiya Lightly Tuned Motor (28T), motor alone is worth £26. Description for the TT01R says it comes with Hop-up parts already, but as a kit, will cost £125 + servo + TEU-105BK controller + 1/10 Shell + controller/recei.... Am I way out ? or on the right track, the TT01R makes me think its a fast car already and has super duper bits to it, but that could just be me reading it wrong? cheers guys...
  17. Morning all I was at my local RC club on friday, chappy had a look, got it going ok which was good, but after a few smacks into the wall, it went back to 2wd! Chappy fixed it again, but did say the diff was nailed so aint gonna hold..... Got back on the track and the diff went before i could hit the wall ! He had a look again, but said it was nailed, and these pink tiny rubber bits came out, no idea what they are! Anyway, am guessing i need to buy a new diff (which am guessing is the pulley, the pieces that attach to the pulley and some screws ?), i had a dig around on ebay, but as i'm not 100% certain what to look for, i found a part bag: Tamiya #53877 (Front Direct Coupling) , or i can get Tamiya Hop-up: #53919 Not sure if either are the correct pieces, any thoughts on it? Cheers all
  18. Cheers for the info guys.... I'll be honest, really dont know what i am doing, and am worried i'll mess somthing up!!! I'll take it to my local club on friday and hope someone can show me the way! I did change a motor last night in my DF-01 chassis, realised after it was only 2 screws, where as i took the cogs, prop shaft, etc etc all out last night ! doh! am getting there!
  19. Afternoon all ! I'm puzzled with this one, i have a TA05 chassis (i thought it was the MS model but its not, learning as i go!)...... Had an Ansmann 28t motor in, and ran fine, is a 4wd twin belt A friend swapped out the motor for a Tamiya black can...... I then raced at a local club, but being new, spent more time ice-skating on carpet and bashing into the sidewalls, LOTS! and its faster! Got home and thought i would give it a run on the tarmac to see the difference... straight away, the car just spins around, too much power to the rear wheels! Car does go fast when i drive it slowly then upto full speed, however, when i picked up it, its then that i noticed the front wheels dont spin, yet the belt/cog is turning at the front..... Being the novice i am, do i have to: Take the front of the car/shocks/wishbones, etc apart, to look into the housing where the Cog wheel is, to see if somthing eitherside which turns the wheels has come off ? Or could there be a simplier way to check why the front wheels dont get any power ?
  20. Morning all I got a TA-05MS chassis, which has a TEU-101BK speed controller and a Ansmann 28 turn motor. I got it this way, so not built by me.. I'm a novice so wanting to learn the ways as they say!! I just bought a Tamiya Sport Tuned Motor which i want to fit in it (supposedly a little faster ?), but dont have any instructions for the chassis, and cant find any youtube videos on how to remove old motor and fit new one!!! Could it be a quick job and easy to pick up on, or do i have to remove drive belts and all the fittings and so on ?! (i know, i sound daft!) My plan once the new motor is fitted, is to put the Ansmann 28 turn motor into my DF-01 chassis which has the same speed controller Advice most grateful!
  21. Got ya...... I thought that if the shell were a 1/10 scale, it would fit regardless ! Lot to learn for me!
  22. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1-10-Mitsubishi-Lanc...=item35a5bd6d50 Am i asking for trouble buying a shell like that ? I know it looks cheap anyway, but i'm thinking for the time being whilst driving a bit crazy, would be better to bash up some not soo good shells ? I did look on here to see if anyone was selling 'basher' shells and so on, but nothing as yet! Also, one thing i found last night on my TA-01 car, 2 of the Dampers dont seem to go back to there normal position, looks like they need WD40 spraying on them! Is that the thing to do, or best to buy some damper oil, and figure out how to open the top and pour in the oil ? (my TA-01 which i bought used looks very very ill treated, dirty and dusty, and looks like its had a hard life!) Trying to learn how to do a proper clean and strip down of none hard to put back together again parts! and ordered a tamiya rs54 sport tuned motor last night, time to grow a brain and figure out how to swap it out with the current ansmann motor !
  23. So the higher the Turn number, the lower the RPM = not as fast... I have an Ansman 28 Clash motor in my TA05 , but if i put a Ansman 15 in there, it should run faster ? Was loooking to spend around £20 on a new motor, then growing a brain to see how to swap the motors out!!
  24. Yeah, the TA05 chassis is my favorite, so i need to look after this a bit more... It was by accident i bashed into the wall several times cracking the shell... It has an Ansman 28 clash motor (dont know if thats a slow or faster end of the ansman motors?).... I have just bought a new shell from a guy, which is the Alfa GT shell, he had it for a TA03, so i'm hoping this shell will fit my TA05 (and TA03). Understood now with regards to the ESC and motors, i wont aim for anything to fast as me being me will end up with no cars before long ! Was looking at getting a used TT-01 setup as Drift Spec..... Be nice to have 1 racer, 1 off roader and 1 drift car
  25. Morning all, New to the RC scene, so still learning as i go.... I have the Tamiya 'xB' Porsche Cayenne on the DF-01 chassis... (new) - It says Xpert Built, but everytime i use it, it falls apart screws keep coming lose, and after a slight ramp in the air kinda thing, the wheel seems buckled! oops! Am guessing there arn't many BodyShells i can get for this model ?............ I have a Tamiya TA05MS (used) with a now battered but was brand new Ferrai FXX shell (the car has a faster motor in it, which helped me drive it into a wall, 5 times! doh! ) And now have a Tamiya TA-01 (used) with a battered subaru shell...... (and just picked up a TA03 with Alfa GT shell) Anyway, as said, its all new to me and am trying to learn.... How does it work with the shells ? ie: can i buy any 190mm bodyshell (used/prepainted/clear new, etc) and it will fit on either the TA05/TA03 and TA-01 ???? I seen quite a few decent looking shells for sale, but keep reading they are 200mm, and built for Thunder Hawk or somthing like that.... i guess those shells wont fit on a TA05/TA01 ?? (my TA05 sits low to the ground, where as the TA-01 has some good clearance...) Advise would be grateful, next plan is to try and strip down a few bits to get them cleaned.... Also, when changing the motors in any car, do the ESC's need to be changed too ?, or is it just the motor that needs to be changed ? (I have TEU-101BK)
