  1. Looking good, @Grastens! How are the printed parts holding up? If you need any replacements just let me know.
  2. Table updated with 53832 DT02 tuning springs and 54567 DT03 CVA kit. Thanks @SlideWRX for these contributions!
  3. @Oh How Original, sorry about that! I adjusted your ranking in the RWD and Top Ten categories. Nice work!
  4. Rest in peace, @Shodog, your builds were a pleasure to watch unfold, your eye for details was appreciated, and your passion was clearly on display for all of us to see.
  5. @Raman36, nice run! Your 63 mph speed places you at #8 in the 4WD category and #5 in the Top Ten. This looks like the first time you entered, so that's a great result. @Wooders28, since Raman36 edged you out by 0.2 mph, I went back to your speed run on page 92 of the old thread and re-watched to see the results again. I use 1.61 km/hr per 1 mph as conversion factor, so the math comes out: Raman36 = 63 mph (reported) = 101.4 km/hr (calculated) Wooders28 = 101 km/hr (reported) = 62.7 mph (calculated), or I guess we recorded 62.8 mph with a slight rounding error.
  6. @Oh How Original, congrats! You've moved up the rankings in the RWD category, and have broken into the Top Ten at #9. If you're confident you can go faster, you might notice the narrow grouping of speeds in positions 5-8 on the list... Just saying... Great example of showing 0 mph, the run, and the top speed together. Also the body/wheels/tires/wheelie bar are all legal based on rules and precedent.
  7. There should be no problem with this. The main concerns that popped up of the past five years include using stock gearboxes (unless you are entering the modified Tamiya category), needing a body shell, explicitly showing silver cans, and discounting top speeds recorded during a run with a crash. The rules for recording speed runs are important as well. There have been several people who have used generic body shells, larger tires, front wings, and chassis aero to gain some stability and advantage at higher speeds. A wheelie bar should not be a problem.
  8. @Mazduh3, nice footage, but you didn't show the GPS at 0 mph before the speed run, nor did you show the GPS top speed as part of the video. I can accept the entry and rank you in the lists after it is filmed per the rules. This is to maintain consistency with Jason1145's original rules and entries others previously submitted. I encourage you to film it again because your speed once verified places you in the Top Ten. Just a quick reminder of the rules from page 1 for everyone new to the forum and new to the thread: The Rules Each member can enter as many cars as he wants but only one car will be entered per member in the 'Overall Fastest Tamiya' category. Speed runs will be accepted if shown on video; acceptable methods include: On-board GPS: This shows the car at a standstill with a GPS device mounted showing 0 mph / 0 kph, then show the car go on it’s speed run and come back to show the GPS recorded speed. Radar gun: The car can be filmed going past a hand-held or tripod-mounted radar gun. On-board FPV video: This shows video from the car itself with the speed displayed on the screen. Speed runs must have the body shell mounted on the chassis; this can be the original Tamiya shell or a Lexan/hardbody aftermarket one. To qualify for a Tamiya category you must use original model-specific gearbox casings and internals. Tamiya high-speed gear sets and aftermarket internal gears fitting inside stock Tamiya gearboxes and on stock gear shafts are also allowed. If you modify a Tamiya RC with a third-party gearbox, modify the stock gearbox in any way (holes or drilling to accept different gears not intended for that chassis), or custom-build a gearbox yourself you will be entered into the "Custom Modified Tamiya RC" Category. Silver can entries: You MUST show the silver can motor in the speed run video. Up until recently most people have used a GPS with a built-in display, so it was relatively easy to film that device at 0 mph, film the speed run, and film the top speed as one continuous piece of footage. With the newer GPS units connected to phone apps, there is no built-in display to film, but a few people have submitted footage showing their phones at 0 mph, the speed run, and the phone retrieving the top speed from the GPS in one continuous piece of footage. Crashes are not allowed in submissions. Thanks!
  9. @GailGilly, thanks for your submission; did you happen to video your phone showing 0 mph before the speed run, and then video the phone retrieving the speed from the GPS? Or are you using your phone to capture the video and retrieve the GPS speed? It looks like you posted a screen capture from the phone at the end of the video. To be fair to everyone who has posted before, it would be better if you could show the GPS reading 0 mph first, then the speed run pass, and then the GPS reading max speed afterwards (with no vehicle crashes) as one continuous video. Please let us know if you can do that.
  10. @Oh How Original, great video! I enjoyed the low-flying helicopters, some of the faster footage, and your fun driving after hitting 50 mph! You moved up the ranks in the RWD class from 13th to 9th; that's a great change. All you need is another 4.4 mph to break into the overall fastest category / top ten!
  11. I use worn tires and wheels as supports for my RCs; a pair under the chassis is just enough to keep the tires off the shelf. Spray paint caps are useful, too.
  12. This serves double duty as home office and RC build space: And just down the hall in another bedroom is the local hobby shop:
  13. I know, right? I guess things got out of hand. I'm set through retirement. Don't get me started on the database of spares and hopups! It's all in a spreadsheet with general category, model type, chassis type, kit number, description, build status, body status, etc. Too much data to put in a post. You're right. The LHS closest to me just has a little more inventory, mostly bodies, tires/wheels, and consumables. Yes! I have a pair of DB01Rs built currently and the parts to upgrade them to RR spec, plus the NIB RR. I went through a few phases in this hobby: 1) excitement/wanting to build and drive one of everything, 2) interest/focus on specific model types, 3) collecting/organizing/planning to my preferences/tastes. When I make time for the hobby, I mostly want to build as a way to relax. Sometimes I'll throw a battery in an onroad chassis and run a few laps in the street.
  14. I have about 160 Tamiya RC kits and about 40 body sets. In some cases I have multiples. Some are built, many are NIB. I have a bedroom reserved with walls of shelving for all the kits, bodies, parts, electronics, paints, tools, etc. My home office has shelving to display about 30 models at any given time. I have a laser printer with white toner, vinyl cutter, 3D printer, and CNC engraver/cutter and the CAD tools to make custom parts and graphics. To be honest, after 11 years in the hobby I'm questioning how much time I have left on the planet vs. how much material and equipment is in the house. I could keep building, but to what end? I'm thinking about downsizing/selling as other priorities are becoming more important.
  15. Though this video is US-centric, I have to imagine other parts of the world like the UK, Australia, and New Zealand are experiencing similar shipping situations. Some of the highlights for me include: 10% of the planet's shipping containers are tied up in anchor; they're not being offloaded as quickly as they arrive at the ports Ocean cargo shippers have usually been on the cusp of profitability, but since COVID the profits are escalating The degree of globalization and interconnectedness of our economies is mind-boggling Knowing this, and knowing how distributors and retailers add their own markups to stay in business, we shouldn't be surprised retail prices are rising and inventory is scarce. For hobby products, oh well. But if food and energy supplies are impacted, that's when things get serious.

  17. What I find kind of funny (and sad at the same time!) is that various countries are now thinking about requiring "driver monitoring systems" in cars to compensate for the complacency that comes with active safety systems like automatic brakes, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, etc. Solve one problem, create another. Rinse and repeat. Meanwhile our cars are bloating with so much additional electronic content in them.
  18. My first computer at age 13 was a Sinclair ZX81 (Timex Sinclair 1000 in the USA). Convinced my dad to spend $50 and promised I would write all my own software for it; he was concerned I would want to buy a lot of software. So with an old black and white TV, cassette tape recorder, and the ZX81, I taught myself BASIC and Zilog Z80 assembly language/machine code. One thing led to another, and here I am today as an engineer!
  19. After an infuriating, stressful week at work, it's finally FRIDAY FRIday friday... (echoing) Time to assemble the bagger for my yard tractor; leaf season is upon us soon... Time to give our minivan some love with lots of maintenance items to address.. The cooler, less humid weather makes me think about painting RC shells again...
  20. This truck should handle and stop like a dream when you're done!
  21. Things have been ok, a little stressful, but ok. Not much RCing my life these days, though there's a stack of bodies to work on and a few chassis to put electronics in. I thought 2020 was crazy with SARS-COV-2; working from home, people hoarding toilet paper, appliances in short supply, ripple effects through supply chains, etc. But 2021 has been even a little more crazy (for me). Had to help my wife move her father into assisted living. My son needed his gall bladder removed. Work responsibilities increased a lot. I'm getting the cataract in my right eye fixed in October. The logistics and the surprises in my personal life with the backdrop of SARS-COV-2, the rudeness of the general public, and the government propaganda keeps me a little anxious. I'd just like a little peace/ignorance/bliss for some time... One nice thing: The weather shifted and we had the first really nice day in a long time. It's been so hot and humid here; I'm looking forward to more September and October goodness. How about you?
  22. 82K miles!!! You have another 400-500k to go on that Cummins B-series! That's a real gem of an engine!
