  1. All cut by hacksaw!!! No, seriously, I've been very lucky to get this far. We're busy at the moment so things have slowed up a bit on the scorcher. Hoping for the body to be finished soon though.

  2. Like a few have said:-

Big pinion = Slow acceleration / high top speed.

Small pinion = fast acceleration / lower top speed.

This is a general statement. If you goto extremes, ie put a HUGE pinion on,the motor just wouldn't have the power to drive it upto the top speed, which is why in some cases it goes quicker with a smaller pinion (as with nobbi1977 race bike).

If you have a bicycle,it's like setting off in top gear.Technically you can go the fastest in that gear, but more likely you will (if it was me anyway!) run out of puff before you reach top speed.

Don't get confused looking at the rear wheel gear, that's the ' counter gear' the 'pinion' is where the pedals are.

Which surface you are on has a factor too, on tarmac you can run taller gears as there is less drag on the car than say, grass.

If you are planning on racing, you will need a selection of pinions, for different track layouts.Large pinion for an oval layout with long straights and small pinions for when it's more like a supercross track.

  3. Sorry, only tamiya's. In fact I won an auction for a monster beetle today on ebay. Paid more than I wanted to but impatience got the better of me (as usual).

No bother, the only Tamiya I maybe tempted to sell would be a Bigwig.

Monster beetles seem to be going up in price, had a few on my watch list that went for way more than I thought!

  4. Bit offtopic but I've got one of those.

Never seen another one till yours, just been sat in my parts box. The wiring isn't my handywork I might add. I also use deans :D

They are a few years old now!

It's one I used in the optima mid in the late 80's. Couldn't afford the 'gold star'.

  5. No bother, the shocks have just been sat doing nothing for years, glad you can make use of them.

To save messing with body clips,we used to (may still be the done thing?),use sticky backed velcro to stick the undertray to the chassis (1" square at the front and back and each side),then strips down the full length at the side of the body to undertray. This meant easy access plus reduced debris into electrics.

  6. This takes me back to my racing days! :-)

I found the custom special body a better looking body, but used a sapphire Cosworth body when racing as,urm, gentle nudges in turns didn't result in me flipping over!

You are needing gold rear shocks!

I have a bag of them somewhere, they work, but not very cosmetically pleasing?

  7. When you deal with 'the public' you do start to wonder if evolution passed some people by!!

The fees are more of a problem than the consumers imo, but that's a different topic :)

The main reason I haven't sold on ebay for a while, I would rather let someone on here have RC bits for buttons than pay their rising fees,(even though I didnt sell much when I listed in the sales section).

  8. Hi all

First post, I can't add a photobucket url? I guess as I'm not a full member? I've attached a thumbnail for now.

    Blitzer on the beach

    Nearly out of reach

What goes up must come down

    Nice,

    Paddle tyres?

I couldn't post using Photobucket because I was using Internet Explorer, chrome works no problem.

  9. If silver cans, on-road yes, off-road (especially on grass) not as much.As the extra drag will pull the top speed down.

It's a balancing act,for the price of pinions, buy one and try it.

I tried a 24 (if I remember right) on my df03,on road it was ok,off road it melted the tamyia battery connection together (which i had in my hand today, searching for something else, weirdly enough!)
