  1. I must admit I would love an XRT but just don’t have the place to store it and it’s quite on the expensive side that’s why I plumbed for the wide maxx and I definitely wasn’t disappointed it’s still an absolute beast! The rustler I got from someone who snap-on tools goes to (car garage) and he buys a lot of his equipment from them and apparently he was automatically entered into a raffle because he purchases items from them and he won it and that’s how I ended up with it I haven’t used it other than replacing all the plastic parts with traxxas red alloy hop-ups shock caps, centre prop shaft etc!
  2. Well if it’s any help I bought my db01 this year (sorry last year) and managed to get parts from my LHS and I asked that question aswell and according to him the parts were readily available and quite a few parts are off other tamiya buggies and weirdly the Durga is still available in the far east!
  3. Just love a maxx I can definitely understand why you have two of them I’ve put mine away for the winter months (don’t do winter) but I’m already missing it but I think when I get it back out it’ll be like I’ve just bought a new truck got the rustler at the same time! Both are totally awesome both are stock apart from the wheelie bar wheels probably get a few hop-ups this summer
  4. Oooh that’s a very interesting question? But I think for pure smoothness I would have to say the DB01 the belt system together with the excellent centre of gravity make it handle as good as any modern day buggy I have had the cat L2 evo and with my hand on heart handling wise very little in it! The cat pips it because of its lightness and it’s been designed ground up for brushless the DB01 is noticeably heavier!. The avante has a few issues most noticeable the shaft driven transmission and weak chassis that flexes a bit to much which hinders the steering even with alloy servo mounts the flex is still there! And although not drive related you can’t ignore the annoying battery compartment but still a very good performer
  5. I took the aluminium shocks of simply because they just didn’t look right on the buggy but look perfect on the super avante because it’s box art but you do have to change the shock shafts because they are a odd size on the avante but the CVA shocks are perfect for what they are! you have to remember that back in the early days (80s) those shocks were the hop-up option!
  6. The suspension blocks, slipper clutch, full bearings aluminium steering set and a the crazy expensive aluminium shocks but I’ve took the shocks off to put on my super avante I sold the slipper clutch to a guy who was club racing his baldra and couldn’t find one anywhere and he was using a brushless system and this is 19turn brushed so it doesn’t really need a slipper on it and to be honest the shocks didn’t really fit in with the paint so I just made up the kit shocks and they are perfectly fine super smooth!
  7. Feeling a bit fragile after making a bit merry last night I decided to go back to my Durga that I’d built with loads of hop-up then took it apart again to take a few bits off it for my super avante (esc, motor, shocks, few bearings etc) then I just boxed it up and put it to one side all the parts which I replaced with hop-ups were still packaged up so I just built them and rebuilt the buggy
  8. Does a broken Novak esc from the 80s count because it was free (for my Clear RC10) display only?
  9. I use a hobbywing just stock 10.5 brushless combo from Schumacher I find it gives a brilliant turn of speed with good punch but not to outrageous where it starts destroying parts of the top force and very good value for money! but do replace the plastic motor mount when you get around to installing it I find that the top force really works well with that combo
  10. If your going to go down the road of more speed/power I would suggest changing the plastic engine mount for the alloy engine mount because once you’ve geared up to the really good motors you suggested I almost guarantee you’ll want to go better (fund’s permitting) and it’s generally something people forget about until it melts
  11. Very valid point! I was in a government building last week for work and the manager asked me if I’d seen a man on orange electric bike and if I do see him just completely ignore him he was one of those self called “public auditors” we seem to have in the uk at the moment basically they rock up to any big establishment generally government buildings or police stations etc and stick a camera in the workers face hoping to get a reaction (knowing for a fact said worker in uniform is not going to floor the d@#* head because he’s on camera) so they can go back to the little hovel where they came from and put it on YouTube as klick bait more klicks the more money! Very sad existence and this is what the likes of Kevin talbot and tomely rc and a lot of the rest do it’s all business (although they aren’t doing it just to p people off) which obviously pays off because by the looks of it they don’t do to bad? Fair play to them and I do watch the vast majority because I genuinely want to know what you get for your money but like you I don’t watch the then following destruction of the model because it’s something I will never do having paid an absolute fortune for my chosen rc!.
  12. I’ll second the db01 it’s a fantastic buggy and it’s very much like the top force on the handling side obviously it’s a completely different buggy in every other aspects but it’s centre of gravity makes it a fantastic performer get the right balance between the shocks and it’s as good if not better than a buggy 3 times the price!
  13. Go for it I’ve seen it done years/decades ago with different motors!
  14. I found the 490 very good but if you have a slightly heavier model like say the turbo optima it does tend to suffer with its top end but in the like of the jj ultima because of its lightness it a very good performer I also don’t know if it’s still the case of what ever number the Le Mans has on the cans that’s what the race time you can expect (490=490 seconds= approx 6 minutes of race time)
  15. My clear one will go well with this one and I think that’s my lot from team associated!……mind you I said that when I bought the Kyosho turbo optima after the original optima and this one is currently at my parents house i forgot about it when my house was being renovated and everything returned
  16. Yeah I was watching this the other day and I must admit it a lot better than I thought it was going to be I didn’t know much about the buggy only seeing really rough surviving examples but it definitely pleasantly surprised me……..expensive though and yokomo are re-releasing the period brushed motor to go with it! Now that’s a very good touch
  17. I’ve had numerous 3D printed part which have turned out to be (putting it politely) not very good at all I must admit this is a strange one bringing it out clear like a “mule” a lot of manufacturers of rc products do clear versions so they can see how the screws and other components have an effect on each other when building of the model itself! But I personally think it’s pretty cool and very different which is only a good thing in my eyes!
  18. Oh I think they will do a re-release again and probably one of the race specials? Im sure you could use this one no problem at all the plastics are very strong and ridged very much like the plastics on the tamiya hotshot/boomerang family of buggies! although I wouldn’t do any racing with it only because the parts aren’t going to be available apparently?
  19. Oh ok I’ll have a look yeah my jj is exactly the same I’m afraid that and the optima mid 60th anniversary is display only and I don’t know how good the motors are because the last time I spun my Kyosho spa240 it had one or two flames popping out the air vents! Probably just need a good cleaning just haven’t getting round to it!
  20. Yeah they match the actual mesh that is imprinted on the body I think it’s because there is no black window frames I’m not sure yet if I’m going to paint them in or not?
  21. 99% finished a few things to do! Did I enjoy building it? It was ok a lot of guesswork with screw sizes and my fingers are certainly sore because that plastic is very unforgiving and everyone in Europe don’t forget everything is in metric but it’s a fantastic looking buggy and the quality is first class I’m very pleased with it
  22. I know a lot of people criticise traxxas for their brand protection methods but oh mate it’s an absolute beast and traxxas have produced a top bashing machine!
  23. The jj ultima is a brilliant buggy probably in my top five of favourite builds all my Kyosho legends have the period brushed motors in them sourced from back in the late 80s early 90s and left up in my parents loft! my maxx is my go to outdoor (spring/summer don’t do winter) RC together with my Arrma vorteks which is absolutely ballistic! your bang on with tamiya! at the moment they are somewhat lazy hopefully they will see what’s being released around them and get their backside in gear?
  24. Way back in the early spring I fully intended to get myself the mad van as a way into fully learning all about brushless and lipos because I’ve dabbled with them in my buggies but did really understand the real pro’s and cons and it just looks so good that was my choice so off I go to the LHS but it never turned out that way and I still look and think what happened? Don’t get me wrong the maxx is absolutely awesome!!!! But I don’t know why I came back with it
  25. I had Samsung for years then iPad Pro because I got an iPhone and was so impressed with it so I thought I’ll give it a go and it was a game changer!
