  1. Took the first pull from my work-in-progress Sand Scorcher interior buck so that I can chop it up and start on the occupants and accessories without ruining my radio box...
  2. Ok, I finally found time to give this polymorph stuff a go, and decided to start with something simple and make a motor cover for my SRB! I've learned a lot going through this proof of concept and I'll handle the polymorph differently next time as well as create the mould the other way around. In any case, I think my effort proved it can be done (even if it has come out very rough-and-ready) and, as it's polymorph, I can just melt it down again. I have to admit, though, that I was a little concerned for the safety of my 1979 original cover when I couldn't get it out of the mould
  3. Glad you got your 100% back! I just looked up the Netgear SC101 and it's a SAN device, not NAS, that only works with Windows and even then has to have a special driver installed and is a bit glitchy.... not much love for it on the forums
  4. That's some good advice - thanks. I've watched a few youtube videos of polymorph, including colouring it with high-pigment powder paint, and it almost looks too good to be true. I bought it to do the ball races, which shouldn't suffer from the problems you describe, but since then I've been thinking of other things that might. Also, the motor covers could get to 60 degrees if the SRB is run hard, I imagine.
  5. Doc Brown bumps his head and invents the Flux Capacitor. You bump your head and turn Canada into a barren desert. Go figure
  6. I was thinking something like this earlier, only my idea was to take a plaster mould of the SRB motor covers and then use them to form polymorph replacements. Also considering it for making my own driver's heads... EDIT: Thanks for the link - I think I'm going to be buying more of this stuff....
  7. 60 degrees Centigrade? Are you sure?
  8. The 250g polymorph I purchased on fleabay arrived today, which is the good news. The bad news is that I'm away from home for a couple of days and my wife took delivery of a package that has shed small plastic balls all over the drive and the hall. Now I'm in the dog house for buying "even more stuff" AND for causing her to sweep up all the bits. At least the package doesn't seem to have lost too much weight
  9. I just stumbled upon this thread by accident and I'm glad I did! This is some fantastic work and the results so far look awesome. I respect your determination on this build, and hope you manage to see it through.
  10. So you heat polymorph, stick your teeth into it and hope it comes off again?
  11. Some of you folks have shamed me in to cleaning up my workbench and installing storage trays. Here's where I work on my RC (and games consoles and anything else that needs taking apart and <ahem> fixing). It's in one corner of the garage. I won't show you the rest of the garage, as I haven't gotten around to cleaning that up yet!
  12. Perfect - it's even available from Maplin. Thanks.
  13. I may have imagined it, but I was sure I read somewhere that someone had made their own SRB ballraces by packing the end of the arm with plastic putty and pushing the N19 steel ball pin into it until it set. Has anyone done this? Seems logical to me, assuming you can position it accurately while the putty goes off...
  14. I'm starting to see why you would want to put it in the mail and make it someone else's problem
  15. Give me a couple of weeks for them to arrive and I'll put something up. I also found these (360254138367) on fleabay in my searching. They look nice in alloy, but I wasn't sure about the length/travel/stiffness.
  16. Will do. If anyone is looking for the Ansmann dampers, the seller of ebay item 190655228883 (£7.99 delivered - cheapest I have found) has 5 pairs available and has confirmed that they are 2010000037.
  17. Could you get the new parts milled specially? If you could draw them in a CAD package you might be able to get them milled at a Hack Space or Fab Lab, if there's one local or another member is able to do it for you...
  18. They do look very nice, but I decided to go for the Yeah Racing #DP-1004TI dampers all round - they come with a range of springs and, as this is my first venture into custom damping, I will probably need them to tweak things a bit. £22 delivered (inlcuding paypal processing charge) from rcmart - another first for me, so I'll see how the purchase goes.
  19. Measuring my SRB without any shocks, it looks like you need 70mm on the front with 15mm of travel and 57mm on the rear with 17mm of travel (assuming you keep all of the stock bump-stops in place). EDIT: Thinking about it, I'm going to be using a custom roll bar/cage so I can have my rear shocks any length; I'll try to find a set of four 70mm shocks with >=17mm of travel EDIT EDIT: According to a post on TC (http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=63392&view=findpost&p=426530), Yeah Racing do 70mm/19mm shocks
  20. I'm on the hunt for value-for-money shocks for my SRB runner, and my eye has settled on the Ansmann Racing Aluminium Dampers. I think that 55mm (201000036) will be right for the rear and 75mm (201000037) will work for the front. I can get the set for £15 plus P&P from Time Tunnel (Gold Star), which seems like good value. They look pretty good, too Has anyone fitted these to their Sand Scorcher, etc? If so, what's the verdict?
  21. Can't you get buyers to agree to change their feedback after the event? Have you tried making contact? Edit: Forget that - just had a quick look at his feedback and I think I can see why he didn't try to communicate; he obviously can't
  22. My daughter wanted Facebook when she was 10 but, because the minimum age is 13, she didn't get it.
  23. Good choice of screen name.
  24. Thanks Zulu69 - I'll put them on fleabay anyway; if they can be of use to someone instead of sitting in my bits box then they might as well have them
