  1. You're right. I went for the SCT combo, though, because the motor by itself was more expensive than the combo (at the same retailer). If the motor was reasonably priced I would have just bought the motor and mated it to my SV2 ESC.

    -Paul

yep the CC combo is the way to go if you are going to buy a castle motor for sure .real good deal with super great customer support I have called them a few times for a couple of my airplane esc's and they are great. i have a couple of Tacons and Hobby wing motors so i also have 2 SV2's to use with those.

  2. The 1406 product page suggests it can produce 30% more torque than the CM36: http://www.castlecreations.com/products/nc1406.html

The Sidewinder SCT page suggests the 1410 can produce 50% more torque than the CM36: http://www.castlecreations.com/products/sidewinder_sct.html

So there does appear to be a difference between the 1406 and 1410...

I also watched a review of the SCT system at

, and there's a visible difference in rotor magnets...

I'm eager to drop this in and go bashing.

    -Paul

I have to turn the punch control way down on them in almost all my bashing sessions or the wheels just spin and spin, almost ridiclous, if you don't already have the link or field card get one it's worth it.

also the SV2 and SCT esc's are the same you just can buy the SV2 by it self and combo. The SCT is just a combo with the fan and motor.

  3. That's interesting... Yesterday it was $129 instead of $119. I will say, though, that the Duratrax system is coming with a 1406-style motor instead of a 1410. Give me the torque and efficiency of the 1410!

    -Paul

I seen this asked before on another Board and Castle stated this "the only difference between the 1406 and 1410 motors is the kv and length."

  4. well was i was a kid in the 70's we were all supposed to have personal jet packs and car would run on water and they would fly by the year 2000. :)

    "JANE!!! STOP THIS CRAZY THING!"

1.1 Cars will still run on gas just less of it and RC cars will still run on batteries just smaller and more powerfull in 2040 is my guess.

  5. Trust me there is no comparison between a brushless and brushed motor waaay more efficient waaay more power .a 9 turn 380 EZrun will well out perform your venom motor. I have one of the. ezrun 380's in my king black foot and believe me when i tell you it moves on 2s just fine. a full 540 can is better yet because there is a million other applications for it later on down the road. that esc looks fin paired with a ezrun 540 can or one of the tacon 3650's at 25 bucks the thing will fly. As TA-mark said you will want to go with lipos the higher the c rating the better. if you have say a 100 amp spike you need at least a battery that can deliver that ex:

    5000mah 40c= 200amps

    5000mah 20c= 100amps

    2000mah 20c= 40 amps

    2000mah 40c= 80 amps

you will want somthing to be able to deliver 100 amps with a true 540 brushlees with that speed controller or it cooks that battery.

  6. Thanks for all the info.

I am looking for outright speed, but I need a fairly torquey motor. I'm running a 16t pinion in my monster beetle instead of the 10t. It's going pretty well with the sport tuned, however obviously now lacks the kind of grunt needed to lift the front wheels (although still has enough to spin the wheels on tarmac).

If I were to go brushless, what kind of kv would give me the best top end, whilst still giving me the boost in torque needed due to the pinion change?

put a 3500KV to a 4200 kv in it and trust me even on 2s it will be more than enough of both torque and top end.

  7. I would just spend a little extra and get an Ezrun combo, the 9T system is around £50. :)

Live links to ebay auctions are against the rules. :)

Those lesser priced HW combos are 380 motors in a 540 size can.

Do higher Kv have less torque?

yes the higher the KV the less the torque when you get in the high 4700s and up you can't use 3s either unless you want to fry things.

Iv'e seen 2900 KV motors geared up and they are fast don't be fooled by the KV

  8. I'am at the stage where i'am thinking about ordering the electrics . I was considering a Castle motor and ESC but when i factor in the shipping costs + import duty it looks expensive . I've found these from a uk supplier. Has anyone fitted one and if so whats your opinion as to quality and performance ?Etronix Photon 1/10 Brushless ESC & Motor Combo 9.0RET0400 SPECIFICATIONS:

    ESC Specs:

    • Input: NiMH 6 cells & LiPO 2-3 cells & LiFe 2-3 cells

    • Motor support: KV < 4500KV, 1:10 scale car

    • Shaft: 3.17mm

    • Weight: 172g

Everything will be based around the motor and ESC i decide on so any advice will be appriciated . Is this too much power for a SRB ?

well you won't be short on power for sure i don't have a Etronix Photon Sensorless ESC but if it has the punch control like the Castle ESC's have it won't be a problem. There is no such thing as too much power! :D

by the way the Funco looks great so far can't wait to see it all finished.

  9. Kit builds are'nt really my thing . I like to take a chassis and then customise it to do what i want it to be capable of . There are enough bodys and chassis within the Tamiya range to do your own SCT if thats what you desire but as others have said there are better RTR trucks out there . Its a shame Tamiya have'nt done one so far . To me what you build is only limited by your imagination .

Yes i understand that i did that with my 2wd slash picked up a roller off ebay and put into it what i wanted. I also have a Ofna jammin SCRT 2 different trucks for sure. i would just like to see a Tamiya SCT kit the box art the works.
