Tamtech Porsche what parts should i change
oz-trash-cowboy replied to bjorklo's topic in General discussions
Ive had sucess with mini-Z dampers ( used the tamtech shafts ). They seem to respond / turn better with a brushless, digital servo, and a hotter motor makes all the difference!! I even delivered my wedding ring on the aerial of a tamtech 935!!! -
Automotive clear / vinyl printed. I've used Upol clear, both out of the can and 2K out of gun with out any dramas. I do a dry coat coat and then slowly build up the depth letting it flash off in between. The theory is minimise the solvent action on the decal. ie try to get a fast release of the wet stuff!!

A month should be ok. Depends on the thickness of the coat and the ambient temperature and humidity. Try testing the clear for "hardness". Its normally good to go for a flat sand / polish if you can press hard with a finger ( do this somewhere inconspicuous ) and not leave a visible finger print. Try to keep the polishing product even on the cloth and change the area of cloth often as the debris can get caught in the cloth and leave marks. A fine mist of water from a spray bottle, every now and again can help keep the cloth - product - surface action "fresh" and prevent the product from going crumbly.

Have you got any other batteries you could try??

Another 934 / 935 Porsche Question
oz-trash-cowboy replied to Indetrucks's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Probably another case of availability / what was the favorite color of the assembly line controller of the day. As a purist ( like to think so ) dont think anyone will be too critical of you with either colour on your 4 or 5. That said, just to add intrigue or arguement to your situation, it has been known with the high valve ( demand ) of these kits and the greed ( ignorance ) factor of some individuals that a what is claimed as an original / nib kit, can infact be a several kits canabalised to look like an original. If i remember correctly the battery box came loose in one of the cardboard boxes within the main kit box. Not too hard for a 35 battery box to be subbed into a 34 kit to "complete" it. If my nib 34 and 35's were not in deep dark storage in another country, i would dig them out and check for you. Sorry. Over to you PJK!!!!!!!! -
Another 934 / 935 Porsche Question
oz-trash-cowboy replied to Indetrucks's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Mabuchi was the supplier of the motor for the 934/5. Yes, as far as I know ( feel free to correct me anyone ) the shorter motor was in the 4 and the longer one in the 5. However, I have / seen Silver ( nickel plated ) short motors and Gold ( chromium pascification CP ) short motors and also versions of the longer can 30mm diameter motor in both finishes also. Confusing, yes. I guess it depends on what production run / what was supplied by mab when the parts were packed into the kit boxes. -
Measure it, measure it again and use a template ( clamped in position ) to reduce drill bit wander.
-
Save yourself the drama, cut them off and solder on a new pair.

I've used a 3 in nail held with vice grips after heating it up with a propane burner. Vice grips tend to get a bit hot also!!!!

Like to see it in action BJ Baldwin style with signature bikini girls!!!!

Recommend scissors for cutting lexan?

Fine line ( blue ) masking tape along the cut lines make them easier to follow with blade or scissors. -
Recievers compatible with Futaba FAAST 2.4ghz system
oz-trash-cowboy replied to raysan's topic in All things electric...
Futaba invented the FAAST system / logic. It is about as good as 2.4GHz can be. For my piece of mind when driving a $500+ model, a genuine Futaba FAAST RX ( online approx $80 ) is a good investment. -

SRB Dual Shock Mount anyone?
oz-trash-cowboy replied to yellowcat's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Very nice work. -
Add to above, love a narrow band or two of clear heat shrink over the two red and black heat shrinked wires flush with the plug and another a little further down stream to hold them neatly together.

super hornet rear tire options
oz-trash-cowboy replied to chickenman242tk's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Depends on what you are going to run it on. Small loose ( sand etc ) paddles work well, hard ( clay etc ) small spikes are the go, all round go for a deep tread. -
Improving a Kit Servo Saver
oz-trash-cowboy replied to speedy_w_beans's topic in Build Tips and Techniques
Even better, delete the servo saver altogether, fit a digital metal geared servo and aluminiun servo horn and use all your new found steering precision to totally avoid crashing!!!!! -
Or a good tight pack with white grease, like you get in a tube a bicycle shops!!

TA03 is a great chassis. I dont have a E30 body to try for you, but if its any consolation, if it does not fit on the F, you can always convert your F to an R. Besides, the F feels like it has a dead horse nailled to the front bumper ( as said by TG's JC on an audi road test !! )
