  1. Evening all If you can cope with the read i could do with a little more input... The refurb continues - my two "sprues" arrived from the ebay shop suggested by someone above (thank you for the suggestion) and now my attention turns to paint and glue! Can someone suggest a supplier for a few pots of tamiya paint and suitable glue please? I think i will need: -olive drab -flat black -red brown (is that the handle colour on the axe and other tools?) - German grey (is that the colour for the steel tool "heads") - have i missed any or got them wrong? I have downloaded the manual pages but the resolution makes it a little difficult to make out which colours go where. I have an airbrush if it makes a difference to the paint suggested. I want to paint the new parts rather than the whole shell - so that means the main gun and mantle, machine gun on the turret and a few of the other bits that have been knocked off over the years and are on my two sprues. I also need some suitable glue; is it still polystyrene cement? I now have it running - i got an mtronikic speed controller, made up a 6v sub c nimh pack, found an old futaba servo for the steering and a clone 2.4 receiver i had lying around. The transmission took a little oil and grease and the clutches needed adjusting but on the whole it runs well for its age! I only want it able to run, not to belt around the garden, carpet only for this model. Thanks for any input Chris
  2. Thanks for the tip - more googling for "heng long" it is! I have fitted a servo for the steering now, connected a battery and remarkably both motor's came to life after a 30 odd year lay off!
  3. Interesting info - thanks for posting. I think (and it is many years ago!) it had a lead acid type battery, maybe 6v, although i could be mistaken. It is a fair point about the mechanical stresses and strains - as i mentioned i only wish to roll it around the house a little for old times sake. It is not going in the garden or anything! I will look at some other brushed controllers and see what input voltage range they can cope with as i could try a 4 or 5 cell nimh pack to reduce the voltage a little. I will have a google for the Teu unit you mentioned.
  4. Yes, mine is as described by Geoff. I had it as a lad maybe late 70's as my first Rc model so a lot of sentimental value. I also have a cheetah which I need to look at although that is one I would look to move on as it interests me less than the tank. I had know idea there would be the following for these models and that you can buy them new. I have now ordered a couple of plastic spruces from Japan so I hope they will allow me to fit the main gun and a few other bits back on. Does anyone know of a suitable brushed speed controller for it? I have seen a 20a mtroniks at Cleveland models that seemed worth a go. Cheers Chris
  5. Here it is - not sure if the image will be too small.
  6. Thank you for your replies, all welcome. Thank you for the manual link, it is similar to mine but I think mine may be older. Mine has two motors that run all of the time and skid steer comes from a clutch that disengages one side or the other if that makes sense. The upper shell parts look similar to mine so maybe the missing parts can be sourced. As they say a picture is worth a thousand words so I will post a couple of images so you can see which one it is. Thanks.
  7. Hi All I am hoping to get my old Sherman running and this seems to be the place to ask a few questions. I have recently recovered this from the loft and dusted it off - it is mainly intact but a few bits are missing - i only want it functional not ultimate scale / original; this project is more for sentimental reasons. Another trip to the loft may turn up some bits but i am not holding out much hope. It has twin motors and a clutch for steering & metal tracks. I am involved in RC flying so the radio part i am fine with along with the battery related stuff too i think; it is the tank specific stuff i am looking for and in particular where i might source bits and bobs from. I plan to use a 7.2v nimh pack - does this sound OK (original was a lead acid i recall) I think it had micro switches for fwd/rev but i want to fit an ESC - any suggestions for suitable reverse capable units? I am missing a few body bits: gun barrel and mount, machine gun for turret and one for the front of the shell - are there any places that do these bits or can i use parts of a more recent model - they look similar from some googling. Thanks in advance for any pointers.
