That's a nice looking buggy the Manta Ray. The only Buggy we have is a DT02 to build, do you think it would work well in that? This would be instead of the stock 540 the kit comes with.

I opened up the case and it had sand in the bottom of it and some the solder points had over heated and blackened. I replaced the case and it wouldn't work at all! So all the wires have been stripped for spares and rest went in the bin. Useful lessons all round, I know how to open up a 101 now and although I should have know better I will next time protect the electrics when I go near the sand or water.

Thank you chaps. The Marine ESC can go on eBay then. The Bilitzer will get the Tamiya Sport Tuned motor and the Eco 27 Esc, which has go to be progress from the current old 540 and MSC. The other Esc might as well go too, as I'll be forever running after the cars when the kids use them and get stuck with out reverse! What do you the Ansmann 21 might be good in? Is more for 2wd or off road types of models?

I have a box of spares and in it came some ESCs. I'm hoping you that you chaps can help me find a use for them. I have a Msonik4 RV27 ECO And a Msonik4 Marine 15 And a Mtroniks Viper Tempo11 The 2 models that I have that could use these are my Blizter and my Xtreme. I've got a spare Tamiya sport tuned motor and a Annsman 21 turn motor to use. All replies gratefully received!

I've got one of these on my Xtreme and it has worked well for about 3 years with modest use. It is now getting very hot and cutting out after about 5 minutes use and with a minimal reverse speed. In fairness to Tamiya I took it to the beach without protection, so it is very likely sand and water have eked there way in. Is it toast or a serviceable item? The cover doesn't appear to want to come off, I haven't used the set button yet as I though this was for turning reverse on and off. Thank you!

A really good Tamiya day today, actually did some jobs on some models. Started to strip down and clean up my 2nd hand Blizter Beetle, it needs tyres front and back which I hadn't budgeted for, but I had a spare pair of rears from a job lot I bought recently. I sold my Monster Beetle which was a shame to see it go, but I have more than enough projects and runners too keep me busy. I sold a Kyosho chassis which came in the job lot too. I bought a sprue for my Blackfoot to replace the front lower arm that I broke on holiday. And I fitted a vintage front bumper and rear cage to my recent vintage Scorcher purchase and I had both these parts of spares, so very, very happy with today!!!

There are so many good choices and so many good reasons, but if it came down to one model I would have too choose the Sand Scorcher. Although it is expensive, heavy and full of faults, it optimises Tamiya for me as a teenager back in the early eighties. You can work the weak spots out of it, drive it anywhere, buy a banger for sensible money and it was also the time before Tamiya went all plastic. And I've always had soft spot for VDubs!

It's a good thread this one, it does raise some interesting points. I think as we get older simple pleasures like Tamiya are very rewarding and it is a great way to switch off after a tough day. Also for a lot of us it brings back fond memories whilst creating new ones. Tamiya is also very accessible financially you don't need big money to buy a brasher and it is also a really good way of involving your kids and getting some fresh air and having some fun. I've got 3 gorgeous daughters who help me clean my cars and they race them around the garden, 2 of our most heavily used cars were around £50 each second hand. Club like this one really do help to keep the costs down with tips, parts and so much more. For me the big travel and big nights out are further down the list of things I now prefer to do. But for the record beefmuffin the villa does sound great! And as for the kids not eating that really was quite amusing!

I've tried to up load some photos, but I'm having technical issue!

I've got a Scorcher with MK1 suspension, but the front wheels lean over to the left hand side. One more so than the other, how do I go about fixing this? It looks more pronounced in the flesh, if you can imagine the top of the wheels leaning over to the left as you look at the front. Thank you for any tips!!

The shell repair is astonishing, an amazing job well done. Paint and detailing a proper job too! I'm enjoying the story so far, keep the updates coming.

That's really good link mongoose1983.. I've been in the garage AKA man cave this morning and I have 2 Sets of MK1 front supension, 1 MK Gearbox and a MK1 front bumper. Onto the other bits tonight, chassis, front post, servo saver and battery box lid. Exciting stuff.

I have a Ranger and it has what I think is Mk1 S.C front suspension. It is the only SRB I have with grub screws on the front suspension and really spindly lower arms? Did the Ranger have this early set up? I've also got a black front bumper which is not painted black and it hasn't got the Tamiya Plastic Co logo on it..which all my other bumpers have got. Does this mean I've got MK1 bumper as well? And was this bumper on the Ranger or just the S.C? I'm slowly but surely getting to grips with the MK1, MK2 and Re Re differences. Sorry about all the questions, I'm obsessed with the S.C and Ranger right now!

I bought a Brat Re re last week as an impulse purchase. Having got it now it keeps stuttering... twitching might be a better way of describing it. It twitches and then scoots off, same backwards and forwards. I have a large number of used batteries for the cars, is this a sign of the batteries being past their best or an ESC related issue? A 2nd battery seem to clear the problem up, but I thought I would ask that know!

I've got an 80's Futuba receiver in my M.B and I can only get 1 handset to work with it. I've tried a dozen different handsets with 27mhz, am I missing something? I did remember to swap the crystals to match each time I swapped the handset. The handset that works with the car is a much more modern Ranger 2. It just struck as odd, or I'm missing something very simple.

I've just hand a count up and although I've put 5 out for recycling and sold 4 with cars recently I've still got 26 handsets In the garage!! I'm sure this is common problem, but I'm convinced the handsets are breeding.

Its gone well today sorting out the M.B. A lot of head scratching, I'm sure as I do this more often it will become easier and less fiddly. The gearbox has now had some grease and I replaced 2 of the bolts that hold the rear guard on with something better than the odd screws that were holding it together, much quieter and hopefully problem free. I swapped the MSC and switch and this seems to have done the trick, also I realised that If the handset is turned on before the car then the servo twitches onto speed around the floor out of control mode. I've blown the dust out of the motor and there is no nasty burning smells now either now. It will go on to the shelf now as I plan to sell it during the next couple of months. Thank you for the tips and help everyone, I really appreciate it.

Thanks for all the top tips chaps. I've decided to keep the battery covers, crystals and ariels and then recycle them at the local tip. I've some how ended up with over 30 handsets and they take up a lot of space!
