  1. That is an interesting collection! I guess you get a lot of snow where you live? Not much, a few months a year. What I do have is a hilly terrain with soft dirt/sand. Not to mention a strange facination with tracked vehicles.
  2. I keep mine in my shop.
  3. You may want to go with brushless motors since they each need their own esc. I used a pair of Exceed Rocket 2015 740k motors and ez run 35a esc's. This would let you program each esc differently. For my 4 wd/4w/s mini clod I used 2 m05 front sections joined together.
  4. You might look at these as an alternative to the gru gearboxes. They were around $15.00 ea and had a couple of gear options. http://s1.zetaboards.com/RCsnowcats/topic/5039027/2/ I had them set up with brushless motors in one of my many snowcat projects. This was the least expensive and easiest way to go. I switched to brushless 800kv T motors which have a narrower and shorter can and doesn't require all the mods I did to the gearhousings to fit in the stock width chassis. I also built a mini rock crawler using 2 m05 front sections joined together. This gives the options of 4 w/d, 4 w/s, 2w/s with either front or rear wheel drive.
  5. Here a few more shots, and a short video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qD6bXrkt2X4 I'm also using 2 3racing locking diffs. The aluminum wheels are 1.5" i.d. x 1.4" wide with vintage 1.5 knobby tires. I'm looking for some 1.5 dia. paddle tires for better traction.
  6. Here's a project I recently finished. I grafted 2 M-05 front sections together to make a 4 w/d 4 w/s twin motor mini-clod. Powered be 2- Exceed Rocket 2215 740 kv motors & 2-35A esc's, and a 3S lipo. The motors fit flush with the body for more steering clearance. A single C.E. servo for front & back steering. I made the shocks to get .500" more ground clearance, and used rc10 gold pan front springs. I widened a set of HPI Fuch wheels to run some fat tires (Tamiya Hornet rears). I kept the 210mm wheel base. I go back and forth between the Mini body and the HPI Porsche RSR body. I seem to only be able to post 1 photo, so here's a chassis shot.
  7. Here's a couple versions of mine. I made the tracks a few years back, and the rims this year. The tires are 3.8 paddle tires. Also has an operable snow plow attachment.
  8. Thanks for the correction, M-05. I tried the Tamiya rear spiked tires GB-01 and they do fit the HPI wheels with no mods. The o.d. is approximately 2.5", which is too small. The knobbies in the photo measure approximately 3.0". I don't see any i.d. /o.d. specs for the rally tires. Ideal would be around 2.75" o.d.
  9. Oops, meant T-05.
  10. I decided to convert my off road Mini (t-03 chassis) to a 911 rally car. Here's a in progress shot. I went with the HPI RSR body and Fuchs wheels. Some of the mods to get this to work included making aluminum inner wheel halves to widen the wheels so the tires would fit. Wide HPI 12mm hex adapters to space the wheels out a little further, body mounts to mimic the 911 mounts, softer springs and spacers to raise the right height. To avoid the tires rubbing the stock motor I'm switching to a brushless outrunner, which is shorter. I'll start with a 800kv and see what the speed is like. The tires are a little on the fat side, but so far I haven't found anything else that works. The tires are RC10 1.6" i.d. x 3.0" o.d. rear buggy tires. I also used these tires with the Team Associated RC 10 (gold pan) rear wheels on the mini.
  11. Thanks. I read your thread on the bus. You did an outstanding job! I'll pick up a Maistro body and see about fitting it to a Blizzard SR chassis, looks like a pretty close fit. My plan will be to convert it to a Crewcab.
  12. New to the forum. I'm a long time VW bus fan and have been wanting to do something with this body since it came out. I've been modifying/hot rodding the Kyosho Blizzard SR and decided I'd try and fit the VW body. Unfortunately the proportions were wrong and I ended up building a chassis from scratch. Power is from 2- Exceed Elite 370 Brushless motors w/400 rpm gearboxes. Huco double jointed couplers & L boxs. A piece of plex covers the running gear and the 2S or 3S lipo sits on that. The tracks are from a SR which were narrowed by 1/2" on each side and shortened. I used superglue for plastic and the original screws to hold the track together. The paint job came out o.k. so I'll redo that in the future. I'm now thinking that the Maistro VW Bus 1/10 would be pretty close to the SR chassis. May give that a go later on.
