Building my Hummer (lots of pics, beware dailers!)
Crash Cramer replied to DeeMiller's topic in General discussions
Dee, FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow, would love to see those pictures easier. Does anyone know how to get the scrolling off this forum page. The email I got was perfect, but the forum page makes you scroll a bit left and right. O Dee, could you put some dirt on the wheels/?????? They look TOOO CLEAN.LOL I know you will get them properly dirty when you drive it. If I could give some advice on driving mine, it was really hard to flip it on the sandy soil I have around here. Granted I didn't have the BFG tires, but the actual Hummer tires that has a slightly different compound in rubber and also a tiny difference in tread pattern. I am still looking for a chain to be hanging off the back "tow hooks" or a length of sturdy rope. It is commonly seen on the beach trucks around here for pulling folks from the sand dunes when they get stuck. Thanks for wrapping this up, a New Year has begun with a bang and we will all be trying to top this work of art the rest of the year. -
Same here on the driveshaft. I found one in a dusty box of parts in a Hobby shop last year. I then started looking to TC and eBay and there was another that showed up eventually. Expect to pay around $20 USD for a NIP as a minimum. If you are lucky to find one mislabled or under labeled (IE Dirve shaft for 51) the various part numbers I can confirm for this part are as follows: OLD X 9423 and then newer 4315014 CIRCA 1993. Good luck in your search, as with all these small bits, patience pays off. Don't forget, just when you think you have given up....3 will appear at once!!! BTW I have some NEW C clips for parties interested. They are new and never sprung or flung.[]

Thx for the idea but I want to stay as close to the real thing as possible, they are black, sorry. In fact, I want it to look like a Hummer which could actually do the Dakar 2007, including real life sponsor stickers (f.i. Alcoa (forged wheels) doesn't go together with OZ-racing etc., all the sponsors are real life ones). Dee. Ah, so there is some more painting photos coming soon, I can't wait. -

Dee, I don't know why I didn't think of this before, but I really hate the time difference cause it is just now 5 pm and more building could be done.[:'(] The thing I didn't think of, the hood latches, need some "chipping" AT THE LEAST if they are to stay white. I hated not doing any more detail to my FJ 40 build and the latches were what I wanted to accent the most, but they are lexan and not as sharp as yours. The reason I think they need "chipping" is the fact that in my military service, I worked on ground support equipment. We painted some of the latchs in RED when they needed to stand out, IE rubber straps on the batteries. Anyway, the paint stuck for a while, but after being latched and unlatched several times over some time(months, sometimes weeks) they would start cracking(paint would) then the crackles would flake off and they looked "chipped". I didn't want you to think I was being overly critical, just wanted to add my thoughts on real world stuff for details since it would appear this vehicle is painted to have at the minimum tried out for the race, just getting ready for competition.[:#] Thanks again, hope you have to stay home all weekend now so we can see it in all it's glory by Monday [] -

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SPEECHLESS and placing the "WET FLOOR" cones on the ground around the puddle of drool forming around the computer. [8-|] I must say this Hummer is the coolest I have seen EVER and floors anything else around here including the 1:1. I live near a neighborhood that likes to flaunt its money and so I see s bunch of H2 and H3 with their BLING BLING on and this one is the best by far. Anyway, down to the question as I have forgotten which page out of 20 something that you tell us where the basket netting came from and the screen behind the front grill. Thanks for the answers, will look for them here. -

Ummmm, sorry, the drybrushing is obviously what I was thinking about and you won't be letting us down apparantly since you will be doing that later. Still can't wait to see the mud fly. -

WOW Dee, that is looking nearly done and very SWEEEEEEET. I have a piece of desert sand carpet here...WITH SAND IN IT. [] I am so waiting for the mud to start flinging and seeing some of that red paint get some dirt stains on the mudflaps etc.... I do hope you don't overdo the radiator, I figured you would hand paint it instead of spraying, but what do I know??? I guess you have an airbrush???!!! -

Grey shows more errors, LIKE WE COULD TELL. You have me waiting daily for updates. BTW anyone wanting to buy a donor body (hummer) I just might have one. Check out my "ebay cheap deal/****" in my showroom and you will see why you will have to master plastic surgery like Dee here to make it nice again. I have 28 cars/projects currently and only a handful are "DONE" or as close as I want them to be. I could be persuaded to part with my Hummer body that has "extra large holes" for the rear bodymounts. -

Hey Dee, That is quite ironic that your sheet styrene was made in U.S.A. and mine was made in the Netherlands, I used it on the Monster Beetle in my showroom. I am gonna guess that the drivers will be English or other country since your photo clearly shows the navigator on the right thus on the LEFT side of the vehicle. Note to BENIDORMBOY........... SPEED KILLS, keep up the sluggish progress Dee, we are all.................waiting. -
Hey Guys, I gotta get going on my Monster Beetle build along with my nephew's Blackfoot. I am running lean on electrics, so I am trying to use what is laying about. I have an old Mtroniks Sport RV sonik3 that I got in a car. I don't have any instructions, yet it has a GIANT SET button. I connected a motor to a stock MSC to check its rotation speed and direction. Then I plugged in the Sport. It only spun up to about 3/4 speed and the brake was FURIOUS. I switched to a silver can and attempted many times to RESET the Sport, but the **** lights just blink(both) then the green flashes and I thought I was supposed to GUN it and then let neutral then hit the SET button. It just flashed both lights again, then blinking GREEN. IF ANYONE HAS THE INSTRUCTIONS OR can get a hold of Mtroniks in the UK for help, that would be great. It is a working ESC, just can't get it to fix on the correct top speed. Thanks

Ha Ha, DEE, all I could think about with that pic is the Wizard of Oz.... "I'M MELLLLLLTIIIIIIIIING" LOL Any input on SLOWING DOWN my Hummer would be appreciated. I know enough people are reading to be able to share that info. I want the stock motor to SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOW down to keep damage to a minimum WITH the MEchanical speed control. My friend who will recieve this gift, IS a beginner driver. -

I don't know if this is the area to post about the Dark Impact as I don't think the gears and gearing is the same as the TA01. BUT.....on a similar note, I used my radar gun yesterday to clock my chassis at 12 MPH with the 16 tooth pinion and BOX STOCK motor in it. I am afraid that will be TOOOOO FAST for the intended use of this truck. -

Well guys, the paint has dried a bit, didn't soak it in water. I had a person tell me to heat the old toaster oven up to LOW, let it kick off, then wait until the thermometer says about 100 and then pop them in while it cools off. I don't think the wife would like that much and well I would be afraid then of WARPED wheels. Anybody ever tried this trick to dry paint???? Pics coming soon. -

Dee, you saved me some time. I had just stopped prior to filling and fitting the shocks, so your reply came in good time. I just finished the chassis build. I have sprayed the wheels WHITE PS1 and have to let those dry for a month before I think they can accept the tires without "flaking and smearing" I dread the humidity here in Houston for that very reason, can't get paint to dry in a short time. I have to get to my showroom and post some photos of the WIP.[] -

Well, I was hoping like the rest of the followers of the post for some more updates. One day is a long time to wait let alone a week. I guess since you have so many posts, I am not easily finding the original post for RAISING the ride height 5 mm and also any other mods. I am FINALLY building my chassis to go under a FJ40 body like Wyoming did. I would like to rais the ride height if it is easy to go back and forth between the stock setting and the RAISED setting so that when I fit the body, I can choose what looks best. I am not in possesion of the body right now as I have it out for painting, but it is made for actually a 1/8 scale monster truck and not the TA02 chassis and that is why I am wanting any options to change the chassis. Thanks for the forthcoming updates and I hope to finish my project in time for New Year's Eve. -
Finally beginning the build of my NIB Hummer. Sold the body off ages ago, just want the chassis for a FJ40 project. I did note that I should be able to eliminate the steering slop in Dee Miller's Hummer detailing post and also about raising the body too. I must say that I ran one and it seemed fine, but I didn't assemble those, so I wouldn't know if they(the assembler) fixed it already or not. It is why we have the forums and page to find out how to "tweek" these little gems we all adore so much. It isn't like Tamiya to miss details, but IT HAPPENS. I am still confused as to how they could be making a wonderful TA02/TA01 based car/chassis yet they sooooooo long ago discontinued the most broken part I can remeber when I drove hard.........THE MOTOR MOUNT. so we have to find a GPM version or continue to buy the plastic sprue(hmmm I see $$$ in Tamiya's eyes). If you and anyone else on the planet wants a GPM version that won't set you back a mint, try www.asiatees.com for the alu hop ups that should fit the Hummer and others.

The final solution to lexan paint stripping
Crash Cramer replied to Singapore_959's topic in General discussions
Toooo late Willy. In order to settle a bet and see what happens [:-*] I have gone out and seen what it did since I haven't done it to Lexan before. It didn't phase the paint only cracked up the Lexan to bits!!!! Any hole in the surface served as a point for breakage when I picked up the wing 12 hours later. I will now be looking at Sgt Barnes' report on what to do before the body is trashed. [:@] It is a good thing that I was able to get a NEW Bodyset, but I don't see that happening anytime soon on a Fox body. I do want to try to spruce one up for running in a few months. Oh, Sgt Barnes.........Will you reveal ANY AND ALL temperature requirements for your....experiments LOL. I live in Houston Texas where it doesn't get toooooo cold, but the **** humidity is out of this world ALLLL YEAR ROUND. Cheers, Chris -

Okay, I just went out to the garage, sprayed my VINTAGE HotShot 2 wing that some moron painted on the OUTSIDE ONLY(never painted on the underside) with Easy Off Lemon scented Heavy Duty Oven cleaner. I have walked back indoors and will promptly check on the paint peeling process tomorrow sometime. I didn't use any gloves, mask, or scraping brushes, sponges or anything. I will let you know what happens to the black paint. -
