Fitted new wheels to my M06 Miata body. Yes, M06, cause Miata's are RWD. :) (Still need to do stickers.)

Protoform TransAm. Still need to ask what wheels I need for this body. It's very wide and will be going on a TT02 chassis.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU Miatas ARE RWD, how could Tamiya do that to us???? Great to know it can be done right.

On that Trans Am, I have an extra nose here too, from another guy on TC, he stated you could make Jello with it, I have given it a thought once or twice. LOL

On the wheels choice, I am thinking the 2 piece BBS style Tamiya wheel would do you great for the width as it is adjustable and adds some more Tamiya to the build

    Part number 50549

AND they make a two piece 5 spoke wheel too, in white, so it could work too Part number 50673 and Tower showed those in stock today.

HPI made a wheel that mimicked the "turbo" wheel on the later Trans Ams, don't know if they were in M chassis size only or not. Of course I am not getting any hits on ebay on that wheel right now and so I can't point you into any direction on that, but it does remind me that there are the HPI VINTAGE wheels that require the VINTAGE rubber tires to mimick a thicker sidewall. They copied the design of the old American Racing Torq Thrust wheels quite well.

Stained my truck bed, now I have to figure out how to make some strap hinges for the gate.FnW4Qz4.jpgfmh92oT.jpg

Sprainted an undercoat of silver to the body. Only the cabin will be used, the moulded truck bed will be cut away.

Did I miss a step, this is a lexan body, so silver would go on last, unless of course you will be painting it on the OUTSIDE????? Very cool idea you have working here though

Today I have painted and stickered the other of the boys DT03's. This time a Racing Fighter :) He asked for something like The Flash. Having never watched The Flash this was the best I could come up with!

I had seen them too, struck out today on an eBay search to find them, seems the words CCHand shows up commonly with hyperdetailed parts for crawling and Tamiya trucks, but I didn't find the handles you would want.

I was getting so ready to sell my Tamtech BMW GTP:

    103tv8k.jpg

Upon further examination, it was decided that all it really needed was a good clean and for its Tamtech 201 radio to be found again after it got packed up somewhere. It was also determined that the shell would be too fragile to mail anywhere, with its 30+ year old decals.

So, I gave it a gentle clean, and it already looks much better:

    2iktgrr.jpg

Now to track down that radio... The custom batteries for this model are also getting charged, if they are still useful.

Meanwhile, the fire sale has yet to be smothered completely, for I might list my Wheelie Rally shell (chassis already sold) for sale:

    m7rp6f.jpg

If it happens, it will go for a few dollars and an essay ;)

I sure hope you find the radio, don't know if I have any extras these days as my entire collection is absolutely rubbish for organized. I have been playing Hot Wheels too much recently. Nice work cleaning it up though.

...logged in to Tamiyaclub for a  browse for the first time in ages!

Lots of projects to catch up on and posts to read back through. Left the hobby for a while but now making a bit of a comeback, sold some stuff, bought some stuff and just trying to get organised!

Hope everyone is well and look forward to updating my own project threads soon.

What are we using since the whole photobucket debacle? I'm sure there's a sticky thread somewhere I haven't found yet!

Same here buddy, been too much to catch up on for me as well, a bit overwhelming and it doesn't help me that PhotoSCUMBucket isn't working as it ought to. I haven't gotten enough time on the home computer unit to work with Flickr, heck, since this iPad has come into my life, my digital camera hasn't seen the light of day in ages. I hope the batteries aren't perished.

  3. Thanks, that looks nice, old Futaba ripmax gear and what a surprise, 6 channel RX. You can peel that blue plastic off as it was just a protective film from ages ago, I bet it will make the RX look fantastic. Of course if you don’t want to keep the Futaba gear, I would love it 😊

Finally got round to removing the radio lid on the recently aquired M38 Willy and to my surprise it's all complete & has period Futaba radio gear fitted (even if it is for a plane), I was going to fit some Acoms kit but may leave this in place. Gave the chassis a once over and other than being dirty it's all complete & in really good condition even the wheels and tyres are in decent nick.

Also fitted wipers to the Scorcher, they were badly brush painted in Molotow chrome & have come out really well considering.

LETS SEE that Futaba gear please, perhaps I can get you anything missing.

I do need to find my chrome pen and try it out soon.

  5. Oh, I just saw that, blast these old eyes of mine. I had to go buy an “old man’s”visor style magnifier for working on the small stuff.  I too hope you see one soon enough, it seems that distribution is confusing at best for the year 2017 and I don’t know if it will improve soon or not. It doesn’t help that I think there is literally only one, maybe two HCT per case of 72 cars!!!?

You got a good one, I have seen about 30 of them so far since Christmas when I found my first one. They(HotWheels) didn’t do the greatest of QC in the decal dept as the strioes and the number 5 don’t always look so lined up. I have already done a custom one to mimic more the Tamiya HCT. it’s over at Instagram and I don’t know how to iPad and photo upload to the forums atm.

I'm currently sitting in the car waiting for my Daughter to finish her dance class. Seeing as I have to sit here for two hours I thought I might as well pop to my local model shop (Mick Charles Models) for a browse. As is usually the case I was relieved of some money while I was there haha. I bought a hard case Lipo for my daughters Lunchbox so she can take it out once the weather brightens up :) Once again I was surprised to find that their prices were actually less than Modelsport!

After a bit of back & forthing with the seller I bought this off the bay, the decals are a bit naff, but it's in the colour I wanted + the stainless rear bumper is a nice detail. Thankfully it is actually a genuine Ranger shell & it also came with the clear front screen & the grill is in good condition too, the paint on the rear bed is a bit patchy but it'll probably be sprayed black or vinyled anyway

    39936801182_417863fd92_b.jpg28189063899_3ba5436363_b.jpg

Also had a load of SRB speed controllers turn up which will be used for parts

Looks great, I vote for putting vinyl on the bed of the truck to help the paint look better. You need all those msc’s?? Sure looks like a bunch of them.

LOOKING GREAT Steve, too bad you flew down last year, THIS year if you drive down, I have a whole rack of Tamiya TS you can cherry pick for projects, better yet, perhaps I should just make an excuse to bring them up to ya> :D I have to say, that is a nice color, but for me, not the right year Nova, I am not a shoebox fan, but rather '68-'74 era, but to each their own.

It's a lot of fun driving on a course you can setup on your driveway for sure.  Sidewalk chalk is cheap!  I've also been eying up these I found on Amazon.  They're 6" wide and made of rubber so they won't skid and move around, plus they lay flat so you can drive over them like real track dots.

Pulled the front end of the Lazer apart to see what parts I need to order after coming off second best with the fence at the track yesterday. It did a proper job, not only did I break the lower arm but also the pin that holds it on, snapped in 2. Luckily it is all of USD$13 for replacements from Amain, but I will add a spare set of arms too. This was at the start of race 2 yesterday and so i called it a day rather than wait around for over an hour in blistering hot sun for a 6min race of a car that goes in circles. If i had the spares it was a 10min repair job.

You live and learn, I think that is why some auctions on ebay have the running chassis and then nearly enough parts trees to build another car, all because of racing spares.

Yes, they are the no-name tires, and the thread is identical to the BFG branded ones.  After receiving these I see I could have gotten the BFG ones for not much more.  I thought I would give them a shot as the stock tires look very weak for any type of off-road adventuring.    I hope the green metallic will look good on this.  My son is insisting it gets painted that color to be the same as my 1:1 truck.

Are you going to back it in silver, white, or black? It changes the “depth” of the color on the shell.

Looks interesting a Top Force colored LandFreeder. Are those tires the NO NAME SIDEWALL Mud tires, similar in tread to the BFGoodrich sidewall marked tires?? I might have to note that part number for future purchases as if the Landfreeder's tires are the same as other CC01, they could be lacking in the traction department on surfaces other than tarmac. I can't say I am in love with the TA01/02 chassis Hummer tires much either.

If I remember my shocks came in a box with a picture of the shocks attached to a ghost picture of the hotshot and I only used the front shocks with mounting brackets but they were exactly what was put on the supershot (super hotshot):)!

Sure hope you kept the box, it is the HotShot H.P. Suspension Set from 1986 Kit/Part number 5276. I bought one BITD to add to my HotShot and yes, it is the equivelent yellow CVA shock parts used with the SuperShot, but then there were a few extra bits in there in order to put independent suspenion onto the HotShot which the Boomer already had. I found a box over the years on eBay and I have tried to slowly add all the bits back to it, the hardest parts to find are the FRP bits that relocated the heat sinks to allow for the SShot's rear shock mount, also made of FRP.

Any suggestions on how to clean up the plastic diff housing and the metal bevel gears?

Well at least you have kept me from making the same mistake, been wondering what might happen if I used that stuff. I would try an ultrasonic cleaner, so a trip to Harbor Freight is in your future. Lol, you are welcome.

Another day another delivery! First off an original Blackfoot F150 complete with the front grill, tailgate & XLT Ranger clear glass front screen! It also came with a load of chassis parts & a few bits for the Monster Beetle including an original driver, possibly my best bargain find ever at £20! :o

    25963477638_8eda4cefc4_b.jpg

this was swiftly followed up by the mandatory 'basket case' buy, a WW2 body that looks like a lump of Emental with the amount of holes it has in it! The idea was to cut this up for parts on another WW2 project (without the guilt of destroying a new shell), considering what a bodge this is the OO has used the worlds strongest glue so l'll have to dremel out the inner front wings, tailgate, & front grill!

Don't know about your stockists, but here in the USA, I found that Jet brand DESOLVIT is a very good, but pricy glue killer. It is engineered for CA type glue, but could work on some of that stuff in there. Good luck.

Here is my fun for the next couple of weeks, waiting on a bearing set and a shipment of half a Gallop from a gent on RCTech.net to provide the needed rear roll cage due to this one being broken. This will sit on the shelf it is complete and the gears are near virgin along with the tires. Percymon was kind enough to part with a Progress so it will be my 4WDS vintage racer/runner and that will get posted on its own thread along with my Gallop MK I. Glad the two are of the COX variant since i don't think many were sold in comparison to the Scorpion chassis line.

What have I done today ?  Learned a valuable lesson...

Yesterday I dropped some stuff off at the tip (for the benefit of our international friends, a 'tip' is a local recycling facility where you can dispose of your rubbish/waste/garbage/trash in an environmentally responsible way).  I saw this empty box sat on top of the cardboard-only skip (dumpster, trash-can etc etc) and took a quick photo.  I posted it on a couple of relevant facebook groups, deliberately implying that the box was full and that I'd taken it home.

A few people reacted as I hoped, with amusement or surprise that someone had thrown it away, and jealousy at my good fortune.  I quickly explained that the box was in fact empty.  Nevertheless, I still got lots of stick in both groups from people pointing out that taking anything from the tip is theft, that CCTV and ANPR would guarantee my immediate and justified prosecution, and that I was basically stealing food directly from the mouths of the children of the poor recycling contractors who work there.

Lighten-up FFS.  It's an unwanted empty box, for a toy car, I didn't take it and no-one died.

    tip.jpg

I would have taken it in a heartbeat. I of course would figure out if there was someone there to ask permission to remove such "trash" but I can't see a high value placed on cardboard vs aluminum, so if I didn't find a person to ask, I would have taken it.

  17. Plenty of knowledge here on TC, but getting it out into the ether seems more and more impossible. That sure looks like it will be a costly restoration, but these old ones almost always are. The wheels alone could fetch half the eBay price, so not too poorly bought, that is if the wheels haven’t cracked up over the years and miles it has covered. I sure wish I could get a trip to this guy’s grandmas house. Time for you to get yourself down to the Harbor Freight tool shop and buy an ultrasonic cleaner.

What's the effect on the vehicle or driving performance if only a ball diff is installed at the rear while keeping the gear diff at the front?

Funny you mention this. In my past, racing the HotShot was what I wanted to do, there was an outdoor track that disolved before I could get there(old enough to drive myself there) and another that was too organized(had to be a member or the national RC organization to drive there) and finally an indoor oval track that I could have a go at it. Well, since I was a novice, I started in that class of mash up cars and drivers and as I became a bit better than the children in the heat, well I looked into STOCK class, problem was there weren't enough racers to break out a full Stock 4WD heat, so I had to either get a mod motor and try my luck, or go into STOCK 2WD, that meant I had to get another car altogether which I couldn't afford or they would allow me to pull the driveshaft out of my HotShot to compete. I did exactly that, pulled the prop shaft, left the geared diff and dogbones up front(as best as I can rememeber) and I bought a Thorp Ball diff for the rear gearbox. That being said, I can say the car had a distinct amount of jump off the line with the ball diff in it mated to the engine versus the gear diff with the normal greases I was using back then, so, I think you will find it has more punch on the line and a bit more predictable traction versus the gear diff, I imagine how the muscle car guys had with positraction versus the normal rear ends in the rear wd cars of the 60s and 70s. My two cents, I am going for a set, but secretly, might just install the rear diff and leave the front alone and see if I can tell any differences, trouble is, I better stock up on gearboxes as well as get a car or two running first. ;)
