It still breaks my heart the condition of the front SR tires. I kept these tires in a bag inside a box in a cool place for about three years. They are original and were fresh new, but when I digged them out as I finally got a body for my Sand Rover I was shocked to discover they started to crack on the upper side of the wall. I have no idea the reason for this, the rear ones are just like new, zero signs of cracking!
Anyway, my vintage Sand Rover project now has the tires done, another reason to be happy
I'm in need of a license plate for this one. Would love something from the East coast GA, SC or NC, and of course from the early 70's. Let's see what can be done about that.
You all have a good week!
That is some stunning work there Erich and Yea, I would be more than a bit bummed with the tires issue. I wonder if after you let the paint cure if some glycerin will soften up the cracks and freshen up that rubber?? The pharmacy might be where you find it, and hopefully cheap.

I hope this doesn't sound too silly, but would simple lexan sheets work if one were to cut them out nice and precisely?? I realize the rear window can be a bit tricky, but there might be someone molding these windows in their own garage or workshop buried in the ground, to think, printing gold if you can make these parts that are unobtainable.

I don't own any batteries yet so once pay day comes around I'll get some ordered.
You know, she might have better luck driving it with the tires turned round the right way. She is a lucky girl, hope you don't cringe too much.

I know you are working on M04 bits right now, but I wonder if when you are done, you might replicate the most broken M01/02 bits so we don't have to continue to give up arms and legs to buy parts for broken cars. Just wondering, might have a pile of busted bits here to send you for research and measurement needs.

HEY LOOK< I found where you were toying with the idea of the dash you are making now. How neat is that.

I think this SF looks particularly striking!
My insults are not veiled, they are just vile. I actually dig the car, in all its funkyness.

THAT is looking nice, for a Sonic Fighter, hides the hidiouseness a bit in matte black.

For some comedy value! 😂
(I hate music on rc, or any car vids, I like to hear the throttle control 🙄)
I love to hear the whine of the gears and throttle control too, but I do think that some subtle Sax would be a good thing on that vid, not enough to drown out the throttle though, now if I can just shut the commentators up on my F1 feed, THAT would be AWESOME

That looks nice Max, very nice touches, I wonder if a nice medium sized NGK red "meatball" wouldn't look more at home on the roof?? I like the way the red is playing nicely off the camel yellow paint you have chosen,, gives a different look to the Boomer

First up is a set of aluminum wheels from HobbyKing. They had a sale recently and these caught my eye at $10/pair. The specs on HK's site say they are 15mm offset; I think that's a typo and should read 5mm offset as these are comparable to other 6mm offset plastic wheels I have. I think these wheels would look very nice with a black on-road shell.
A 55T crawler motor arrived from Tower Hobbies, too. This is for the VW Amarok team build I'm doing with scollins.
Welcome back, if you don't like those wheels...... I think they look sublime, but are they for 26mm touring tire or what??? I bet they are now sold out, but if you don't need em.....:D I can't wait to see what you and SCollins throw together.

WOW, that is some smooth driving, but I should NOT have watched that with my current state of vertigo...... Now, could you PLEASE add some music to this, perhaps some Yakity Sax???

But as always, its was pretty fun! When you need a new body, I got a set here, perhaps I should bring it with me when I am up that way next year. LOL

OMG, that is taking it to the next level on the video. All that scenery makes me miss CO that much more, it is well over due a trip to escape over there.

Why didn't I think of plopping my M04 or 2 or 6 VW Lexan Beetle body on top of this chassis. Those "new" M chassis rally tires are hopefully big enough in the sidewall department to fill the wheel arches. I have to agree that the bumper doesn't need anything more on it to help snap into several pieces. I am interested in it, so we shall see how I get along with buying one.

I understand that completely, I did get one at the presale price and postage isn't always cheap these days. I thought I had seen those plates before, is someone making them on SHAPEWAYS at all??? It would seem the best place for them, will have to ask PintoPower if he has seen them and their fruits.

You CAN forget the gearbox issues, buy an MIP ball diff for it!!!

I even started to think "they should have made a buggy on this chassis" then remembered the Frog lol
HA HA, oven ready chicken, you could go and get a nicely already roasted chicken from the store that comes in a plastic clamshell and eat the contents and build your own body for the ORV, I know, crazy sounding, but hey, it would be free and include a meal.!!!

8 hours ago, casethejoint said:The old Ford XLT150 SRB that I bought from a TC member (for the life of me can't remember his name/handle at the mo!) about 4 years ago finally got taken out of the box and fixed up today.
It arrived in reasonable condition already. The plan was to built an authentic runner with a restored shell, but the original shell that came with it has really grown on me so I'm keeping it as is.
New bits/upgrades include:
- Tamiya ball diff
- Stainless steel screws
- Alloy wheels (Pargu) and new rubber
- New radio box from re-re
- Coil over shocks (RC channel) all round
- NIB vintage Acoms AP35 speedo
- New re-re front bumper
- Not new but fairly mint vintage Tamiya black motor
- 2S LIPO "hidden" inside a classic vintage hump back caseCouple of things to finish up like a missing real tailgate + sunroof (I have a replacements, currently in primer), tire lettering and it needs a new set of ball cups and a receiver. Other than that pretty much ready to run now.
Looking at the spec, other than the stainless screws this actually was my dream SRB as a youngster back in about 1983, but couldn't afford it. So I guess today I built my nostalgic dream buggy
SUPER SEXY this one is, I was fiddling around with mine a few weeks ago and found that I have a mismatched set of wheels, one with the larger offset and then the NEW re re ones from a brat. I wanted to use the old wheels with some good old used rubber on it, but now I need to source that old used rubber, but I did put my new tires on my new re re wheels, still not done with it yet, body work might have to be done to it. I like the new shiny bits you have chosen to put on yours. The new ball cups you need, are they the white bits in the front uprights??? I might have a set here, but I am in the USA, so we better make it worth the postage depending on where in the world you are.

I have a tiny park near where I live that's great for bashing, one entire side is a steep bank with a plateau, great for full throttle hill climbs, scrabbling tyres and dirt and leaves flying out the back!
I often think about upgrading the motors but apart from the top speed not being all that great I find the silver cans to be quite sufficient on 2s, the acceleration is pretty aggressive.
All was going well until one of the screws holding the front upright in fell out and did a disappearing act! Must have been loose? Does this happen often? I only ask because I've had it happen a couple of times on other vehicles when I know it has been tight beforehand. Maybe it would be worth adding something like a little blue threadlock? Or maybe a tiny dab of superglue? Just enough that it would easily snap free when you wanted to undo the screw?A little blue threadlock is always a good thing to carry in the spares box along with a couple of every type of screw the car could lose. I use an old mint tin like Altoids to keep spares with me, the modern cars really only seem to have won or three types and lengths of screws compared to say a HotShot with seven different lengths of machine screws as well as three or four lengths of self tappers, body pins are always with me too. Sometimes I wish Tamiya made smaller tubes of threadlock like the switch grease, but then there would be no way to cap the tube.

20 hours ago, berman said:Went to my LHS today, have been tossing up between getting a Konghead, a WR-02, or a M-05 V2R for my birthday next week.
Ordered a Konghead through my LHS which will be here after my birthday, mentioned the other two to my LHS (and since I can't justify buying a konghead AND a WR-02) he told me about a derelict stock M-05 he had at home I could have for $15.
He brought it in and I took it home and wasted no time fixing it up and restoring it. I polished all the suspension pins, changed it from 'S' to 'M', fitted it with bearings, put AW grease in the diff, and put a Swift body and wheels I had accumulated on it. Pretty stoked! Although nothing to build next weekend again 😳 😁
Oh what a bundle of joy, nice work, WHAT body is that in green? Looks like a truck from this angle.
10 hours ago, WillyChang said:You need to standup the front shocks, get the CF shock tower. Laydown original position is impossible to tune.
Yours is used so should be ok, but every brandnew M05 build seems to need about an hour of running to "settle in" before it's worth during any tuning.
Check rear blocks too, make them toein like on R.
That is some information I will keep in mind for when I finally build up my m-05.

I still want a chance at that Bigfoot body

I have woken up, got to the car to vacuum it for over an hour at 9am and sweat out about 4 pounds, shower time to get started for the rest of the day before it hits 100 degrees.

Of course you caught me on the way to my vacation, but I do have a few. Intake BW parts here, perhaps when I get back you can let me know what I have here that I can send you to help.

Where do I start, this looked great in the few minutes that I watched the track work, but I admit to fast forwarding to the commentary at the end. It looked like it flew beautifully and it looks like you drive with the most conservative line you can choose and not hard as most racers I have seen in my days at the track. I would be supremely happy to watch this thing kick some serious butt at the local track and perhaps compete in a MODERN 2WD class as it is, as you say, NOT MUCH of a Hornet anymore. In that vein, it would seem to me you can call it SuperFly2, but like Hot Trick did BITD, you only bolted on a few bits specific to the Hornet onto your gear, so perhaps you can call it the Alberto or AMPRO Hornet and discard the Tamiya from the name, much like a Hot Trick HotShot is literally only like the HotShot gearboxes and perhaps front arms and not much else, even the stock body didn't fit the HotTrick chassis well.
I too can't wait for your video gear to step it up and aren't you working on getting one of those cameras that follow autonomically the thing you are driving???
So, What Have You Done Today?
