  1. Love it, good to see you got it running well, bit worried about you hitting the tree in that video though.. What made you go for silver rather that the more usual white body?
  2. What does the seller say? What does the courier say? Hope it turns up but like the folks above have said you're sure to get your money back.
  3. Great work so far, look forward to seeing it progress. I was given a tatty Hornet for spares but thought I'd get it going again, needs a few bits and bobs and with the price of spares it's almost cheaper to buy a ReRe, not as satisfying though. Good luck with the rest of the resto.
  4. Well the spring was nowhere to be seen and they'e on back order at the shop so I thought about making my own replacement. I used a large paper clip which I shaped to mirror the other spring and hey presto I've now got a working spring. Not sure how long it will last but it works perfectly at the moment and it will keep me running until the spares turn up. Got a seaside week coming up in August so hopoing to give it a run on the beach.
  5. Thanks Champ, I've been back already and gone over the area like a crime scene investigator, not quite a finger tip search but not far off. Still didn't find the f###er. I know it's there laughing at me.
  6. OK, managed to order a pair from the nice chap at Time Tunnel Models but they're on back order. Anyone done a front coil spring conversion on a SS?
  7. Just took the Sand Scorcher out for a run in the local park and somehow the upper suspension arm came loose and I lost a front spring. Spent half an hour scouring the area with no luck (typical.!!), can't be far away just can't find it. Anyone know where I can get a replacement, or anybody have one they'll trade. It's the left hand side (as you look from the front), part BG1 in the manual. Thanks
  8. Brilliant job, got to love a Sand Scorcher, so 2 is ......errrrr... twice as good. I too was surprised as to how well my SS went, still only tested it briefly up and down the road but it took off like a scalded cat with no sign of the 'dodgy steering' that they are renowned for having. Still need to address the lack of decent brakes issue and then I'll be really happy. Enjoy, whether it be running or just admiring your work. P.S. great photography too.
  9. Ahhh, not me cracking up then? Thanks for the link, that's the fella - it looks just like a Mk1 Escort and nothing like a jelly mould. Until 8 years ago I owned a 1:1 Mk1, should never have sold it but it wasn't getting the use. I think the cheaper option is to buy a 1:10 rather than look for another 1:1 - they're getting very expensive now. Love the yellow and black, mine was Olympic blue but the guy who bought it restored it and painted it yellow. Hopefully I'll find a RR shell that's not silly money. Cheers.
  10. I don't know how to view models in members showrooms. I clicked on members, showrooms, find a member, I then searched for B.M.T. and found his "all about me" page but I can't for the life of me find any images of his model collection. What am I doing wrong please, thanks.
  11. Completely agree. If the Kamtek was the only thing available and I was desperate for a Mk1 then it would have to be that. Now that I've seen the RR body, which is very, very nice looking, then I'd like to get hold of one of those. I also like Slot cars and when I wanted a parlicular model and it wasn't available I re-liveried a Scalextric car to look like the model I wanted. The result, for me, was good and I had the satisfaction of doing the job myself. I'd now like to recreate this model in 1:10 and I'd love to do it on the RetroRacing shell which is a very good shape.
  12. Stunning work, just shows what can be achieved by someone with huge amounts of skill and experience. Love the 2CV, (used to own one many years ago). The Samba, simply amazing. Both way beyond anything I could even hope to achieve.
  13. Nice sentiment but I couldn't turn the Kamtec body into something I want as I want something that looks like a Mk1 Escort. The RetroRacing body looks great, the Kamtec (as you say) is what it is, vaguely Escort shaped but not enough for my taste. No matter how well I detailed and painted it, it would never look like a scale model of the Escort. I searched the Forum for '"2CV" and got no hits, could you point me in the direction of Skottoman's project, I'd be interested to see it. Cheers.
  14. Ha Ha, it's got Lego lights and they're worried about a missing screw.... Must say you're a very brave man, wouldn't let my (lovely) wife get within a 100m of my Sand Scorcher.
  15. But I'm 42 and the Kamtec looks like a jelly mould.!!
  16. Anyone know if the Retro Racing mk1 Escort shell is still available anywhere please?
  17. Cheers Mark. Must practice my Googling.
  18. I'm running the standard 540 motor that came with the kit, would a sport tuned give better brakes then? I assumed a faster motor would take longer to stop? Running High gear set up (20 65) and the top end is surprisingly quick - not by R/C standards but by Sand Scorcher standards. As I've said before this will be an occasional driver, I want it to retain it's S.S charactoristics and I don't want it to be too fast, I'd just like it to slow down quicker (if that makes sense?). Thanks again.
  19. Hello Chaps, I was gifted an original Hornet by a mate at work, it was incomplete for spares. I don't have the heart to break it up and I intend to restore and run it. I have most bits I need but am struggling to find a pinion gear (all of the ones I have are far too small). It's an 18T 32P I think I need. Anybody out there help? Many thanks.
  20. We must be looking at different videos.. Do you think the video is genuine then? Clearly staged and clearly edited.
  21. Sorry Will but I'm sure it went in the bin some time ago.
  22. That golf course video must be a fake, just doesn't look right at all. (When the guy hits the car you see it smash and at least one of the wheels fly off, when the lad picks the car up all of the wheels are attached. Also between the hit on the car and the run onto the green the players coming up the fairway in the background disappear) Funny but 1000% phony.
  23. It would be a no from me, be like putting a super model in a Mr Blobby suit (google him ). I bought a second hand Bigwig over 20 years ago and it came with a super wide (extra ugly) Sierra Cosworth body too. Out of scale and ugly I never used it, threw it out recently after it had taken up space, unloved, ever since. If the shells were in scale and attractive yes but as Mr Blobby lookalikes you can keep 'em.
  24. Thanks for all the replies, looks like I have a couple of options:- 1) Accept the SS has bad brakes and learn how to drive with this in mind, 2) Buy a programmable ESC and improve braking. I don't want to throw too much more money at this project as it will only really be an occasional driver but I would like it to behave how I want it to. The other thing is to use it in an open space rather than on the street where there are curbs to run into. I was quite surprised by the speed of the SS, much faster than I expected the big lump to go. Must get a visit to the beach at some point, nearest one is 70 miles away though.
  25. Sorry kids, no food this month, Daddy's bought himself a Sand Scorcher.....
