  1. Hi Lee, Does that mean that Dads will have to Marshall two heats; the juniors and the heat following their own heat?
  2. Haha yes plenty of smiles last night, the car handled well (for a Stock DT-02), but the smiles faded after round 2 when either a busted esc or motor put paid to the evenings racing :-( Not sure where the problem is so will need to get on the tools to sort it ASAP...
  3. A busted front axel on the B4 means some unplanned practice on the Sand Rover tomorrow at Seaham. Should be quite a giggle seeing it up against Yokomos, Associateds & Shumachers!!!
  4. Last Sunday we headed over to Preston Park for the 5th and final round of the North-East 2WD regionals, hosted by Teesside Racing Car club. I have hung up my transmitter for the duration of the summer holidays and resumed my role as Pit Dad, with both boys entering the U13s. They did well, both qualifying for the F Final with Oliver finishing 11/12 from 12th and Charlie taking a well deserved win from 2nd on the grid... video of the final... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwjXyOoVAwg&list=UUhRO34aUeNqBwjAss5q1BUw
  5. Booked in :-)
  6. We'll be running 2 Holiday Buggys with 19T, silver cans and 105 and 101 esc's, plus a Sand Rover with 17T, sport tuned and a 105! Tower brace on each, Black CVAs on two and a mix of vintage yellow CVAs And DT02 pogo-sticks :-) Still hope to have a car for the mod class as well but that's a work in progress at the moment. Really looking forward to meeting up again.
  7. Yes, it is a little bit like that!
  8. Another quiet night in the pits on Sunday, mainly because Charlie decided to wreck his car in the B final! Too bad for him but good for me as i beat him in the final (ok yes, I still came last, but he had a DNF; who's the Daddy!!
  9. So we were back at Seaham on Sunday evening for more club racing at NEAM. The fact that it was Father's Day was probably why it was a quiet evening with only 12 racers booking in. I am starting to get the hang of setting the cars up and with no breakages it was a relatively stress free evening in the pits. Meanwhile on the track I continued to develop my... ahem, 'skills' ahead of this years DT-02 challenge. My consistency is improving as I managed to come last in each of the four heats as well as the final. My highlight came in round 1 were I managed to drive the B4 off line on corner 5 and out of the adjacent and open fire exit into the car park beyond!!! My prowess earned a chorus of cheers (laughter) from the gathered onlookers :-s Here's a video of the final... Charlie continues to do well and really enjoys his hobby. He is proving that he does not get his racing talent from me!!!
  10. This was advertised on eBay as a '1970s - 1980s Radio Controlled Buggy', and just happened to be in my home town! I won the auction for £41.00 and collected the car this morning Structurally it's sound but as expected could do with a clean, oh and I need to lose the Meccano! This is destined to be a spec vintage racer.
  11. It's been a while since my last update. We missed round 2 of the NE regionals because they were held on Easter Sunday and we had family commitments. That aside we have been going racing to NEAM on Sunday evenings, and I've even been having a go myself. NEAM is a great little club, lots of close racing and plenty of friendly people on-hand to offer advice and help when required. Today we went to Dynamix Raceway in Gateshead where Charlie was racing in round 3 of the 2WD NE regionals. Dynamix is astro-turf, with a mix of high and medium grip and very bumpy. There were 58 racers in total, running in 6 heats with 5 rounds and a final. After the first heat and a little tweaking, we set the car up with -2 degrees camber front and rear with yellow mini-spikes on the rear and pro-line ribs (M3) on the front. Shock oils were 40 front and 30 rear. The set-up seemed to work well and Charlie was able to get stuck in to the heats and did well. He qualified in 10th place for the E final and managed to finish 5th from last on the grid, and against all adults. All-in-all good day-out, not sure about the shades though...
  12. Ok, so he primed it with Tamiya plastic primer and painted it. When he stuck some decals on the paint started to flake, so he coated the whole shell and decals with some automotive lacquer (I don't know the make) and now the paint seems fine.
  13. Tamiya plastic primer first, followed by Halfords spray paint.
  14. At last year's DT-02 challenge my Brother-in-law came along to watch. He's never been into RC at all before, but he was so taken with the whole event he decided to have a go this year Here is his car in progress...
  15. Destructive comments like these serve no other purpose than to bump up your post count, and contribute to the forum in a negative way; not cool guys!!
  16. The month of March was a complete blow-out for racing, as access to the club was restricted due to a fault with the roller door on the garage where the track is stored. Therefore it was with much anticipation and excitement that we headed to South Shields on the 5th April for our first regional event; proper racers now then A few pictures from round 1 of the North-East regionals, where both Charlie (son no.1) and Oliver (son no. 2), raced their B4s, and Charlie picked up the top Marshall trophy. This was racing on grass, which was a first for us and a complete contrast to racing indoors. Thanks to the heavy rain in the morning and during the lunch break, it was very muddy and kept me busy all day cleaning cars . Think I prefer racing indoors The big story of the day was Oliver (6th) beating his brother (7th) in the final, though to be fair Charlie's car had steering issues. But as I said to him during his post-race huff, 'That's racing!' Oliver, just about visible on the rostrum. Judging by the space either side of him, he must have pumped! Charlie's trophies to-date
  17. Hi Mark, We live in Darlington and only have a couple of DT02s and a Pumpkin, but could be persuaded to attend an event if something was organised. We got into off-road about 6 months ago, at NEAM in Seaham. Really friendly club and you don't need the latest kit to have a go, we don't and are just running a couple of old B4s, which in the right hands (not mine) can beat anything in it's class. Let's see how much interest is generated via this thread... All the best. John
  18. 2 juniors, possibly 3... Can a junior and senior run the same car in different rounds and if they pay for two entries? If the answer is yes, then definitely 3 juniors.
  19. Carlsberg dont do forum posts on TC, but if they did... Probably the most anticipated announcment on TC since last years announcment; bring it on!
  20. Junior 2WD final from Sunday, round 5 and final round of the Benfiled Winter series. Charlie is the orange B4 third on the grid (i.e. the one that does the false start ), and Oliver (Charlie's brother) is 7th on grid, just in shot at the start of the clip.
  21. This promises to be a cracking day and for a fantastic cause as well. I've donated £5 to get the ball rolling, good luck with your target :-) Unfortunately we are planning on entering rd 4 of the North East Regionals on the same day, so won't make it - well, we are racers these days you know ;-) Have a super day-out!
  22. Excellent! You are on course to become the Jedi Master of the DT0 platform...
  23. We had a good day today. Round 4 of the Benfield winter Series, and Charlie was keen to improve on his 3rd place in round 3. In a field of 5 he did very well finishing 1st in rounds 1,2 and 3, followed by 2nd in round 4. Starting on pole he led half the race before making some errors and eventually coming 2nd behind the round winner and series leader. His initial disapointment at coming 2nd in the final was tempered by being presented with a trophy for the Most Improved Driver
  24. Ah, that sounds familiar. I am learning to leave well alone if all is well. Looks like you had a tough time, but it's all good practice for this year's DT-02 challenge!
  25. Sorry, I know it's not answering your question exactly, but I would go for this http://www.modelsport.co.uk/etronix-powerpal-ac-dc-balance-charger-discharger/rc-car-products/369852 It was recommended to me, and I haven't looked back, in fact now I have two. Simple instructions to understand and use
