hey guys another update I have had the day off work so managed to have more of tinker. any way I have been a little experimental today i went to a shop called lidl for dog food and found when i bought the tie fighter these little gems. i wanted to things the base for the tie fighter to sit on so i could use brass rod for the wiring and the colour changing leds i now have around 10 of these cheap lights for other projects lol so ive stripped the light down, removed the 3 led boards (1 board 3 leds) then stripped the fibre optics off its holder. what i then did was test fit the brass rod and cut out sections for the wiring to go through from model to base. then the holder for the fibre optics was used to mount the brass rod back to the original base the lights ame from i then used milliputt putty to secure the rod in the holder and that is now drying. i have also started on the test fitting on the lights to see what room i am dealing with and ill tell ya its veru tight indeed. the 4 red 3mm leds for the engines fit fine its the the green flashing cannon leds and the colour change leds that are tight. the green leds wiring need to fit under the cockpit which needs to be modified slightly as the snap locks don't reach now so ill have to tinker a bit on that and i am not sure how to fit the others yet work in progress me thinks. so that's it for now ive give me self a right good headache with leds and wondering if i have bit off a bit more than i can chew but hey ho if i get chance ill have another tinker tomoz.

so this where i am at right now, first impressions on the kit so far the ship looks like its got quite good detailing molded into the plastic, the cockpit is rather dull but then its not a big kit by any stretch of the imagination and the snap lock seems to be going together ok at the min everything fits snuggly on the cockpit and im quite impressed with the darth vader figure supplied, so that's me for now next update coming very soon hope you enjoy guys so a little more progress today and that's my lot until tomoz if I get chance with work so the first coats have dried and I have now drilled the holes for the leds 2 on the front for the laser cannons and 4 on the back for the engines. the holes I have drilled fit 3mm leds. also I have started filling the pre drilled holes were the original arm for the stand goes as I am using a different base so as a parting shot for the bulk of the model I have also started the first coat of light blocking on the inside of the model and removed the masks off the wings and assembled the wings as per instruction. so that's it for tonight guys im beat so its chill out time with the tv and the mrs

well guys the time has come the comp has started so here is the build on revells darth vaders tie fighter I have made a bit of progress so far and only have 2 weeks to get it built which shouldn't be to much of a problem I am up against 15 other entrants so may the force be with me so heres the build log. Well im a few hours behind everyone now plus working nights etc ive got a bit of catch up now :-/ as stated im doing revells darth vaders tie fighter as a single model. so heres the box and kit as per registration: so today i have been given most of the day off so natuaraly itchy fingers sleepless nights getting excited to build something than voyager i had to make a start. out the box yes the kit is pre painted in a blue colour with some details added on so that just had to go to start with so i have thoroughly washed the kit put a couple of indents where i want to drill the holes for the leds etc and then spent ages masking everything up: what i have then done while waiting and watching paint dry literaly i have started on the cockpit as this kit is also snap lock it appears it is going to go together rather quickly. so the first thing have done is drilled some control panels in the side walls of the cockpit for lighting and then just followed the instructions on the rest of the cockpit build.

@wood5tock if you need help on anything just goz a shout i cant speak for crispy but im sure he wont mind giving help n advice if you get stuck. Also if you need a hand on an led lighting kit i have the perfect solution for it thats inside cab lighting and the external lighting dont order anything online if you want it lighting trust me on that @crispy thats the easy way out we need a fully scratch built hogwarts buddy to do it justice lol
-
Thanks guys this is just choice one i have another idea im trying to perfect which i think is a lot cooler. Also i may change the leds on the stars to duo leds so they change colour rather than just white. Not bad for a photo frame i thought lol
-
well the base is done at last this is just a temporary thing with the picture and fibre optics i think it looks quite smart as is but im still going to have a bash at the other idea so heres the pics and a short video. the fibre optics are on a 2 led flasher with variable flash speed this is maxed out to give that star shimmer you see in the sky. let me know what ya all think,
-
that's awesome crispy not jelous at all :-/ lol seeing as ya got the Hogwarts express I think ya need to scratch build a Hogwarts infact a hole wizards land for that bad boy along with a platform 9 and 3/4 lol that will keep ya busy. by time you have done that I might actualy have finished voyager I do have a progress report which ill update tomoz

lol I always wanted ahornby train set I always asked for one for xmas and one year to my surprise I opened my pressies and found a train set not Hornby but lego electric train set I did chunter being an ungrateful git at the time but that train set kept me busy for a long time and i eventualy ended up having a mini city around that train set i was so chuffed with myself. i would still love a Hornby though however i have never made scenery before to go around it and i don't have enough room for a decent size track

well as promised heres the pics of where i am at now. the base because my wood work skills are not brill i have improvised adapted and overcome the issue i went a bought a wooden picture frame 15cm by 10cm (6x4") took the glass out and then put a bracing strut in the middle with a 15/32 hole for the brass rod to sit into. then drilled the same hole on the back facing edge for the power socket. i havenvt decided yet either to use the glass and have a hole drilled in the centre then use a picture of a spacey scene or make my own out of styrene and airbrush a spacey scene for the top of the base. then i am going to get a plaque made up to mount to the top. the rest of the pics are voyager and the decals, there is still a couple i need to apply which are the escape hatches on the rear of the saucer which come with the pe parts now this is where the 1st voyagers decals are going to come in handy so i can use them for the extra escape hatches, i also have the nascelles to decal up however they are now being light blocked, repainted and the new clear parts added to replace the ones i lost once that is done i can stick it all together finish the light blocking and touching up then the weathering and clear coating etc so the end is nigh and i can see the light at the end of the tunnel so heres the pics so thats where i am at right now and hoping to have her finished this weekend then a short break and then the STAR WARS saga which im realy looking forward to so what do you guys think so far?

letner I disagree with the beemer statement I had a 3 series m sport convertible never again mine put me off bmw for life after being told there bullet proof nothing ever goes wrong with them uh huh until the head gasket went and cost over £1000 to fix myself for the cost of parts then the throttle body went uh huh get new part take old off car works oh badword no not with bmw you have to get the new part programmed to the ecu before it will recognise the part not a cheap experience and granted it wasn't bought new and the head gasket wasn't down to me but due to the previous owners lack of maintainence. the car was nice though but cost of parts and a steep learning curve that bmws are emotional to work on put me off ever owning one. back to this topic what the links and the person has succsefully done has now got this forum arguing amongst themselves which from reading the links and the piston heads threads is what this person intended. he has took the pin out thrown the grenade ran away and from a safe distance prob watching the after effects as people and there opinions clash. it does seem like though if he has a bit knowledge he uses it to formulate strong opinions and states it like an authority of the subject to a point and then nothing after people bite. look whats happening here everyone is now mixed and clashing Tamiya is the best thing ever, no its not, its value for money 20 years ago, yes but not now etc etc fact is we all have our own reasons why stick with this brand and many of you guys have other marques of rc, me personally when I was younger was introduced to rc by Tamiya in the form of mad cap, I did have nikko rc aswell but for some reason the appeal of madcap was better than the nikko stuff I had, the time I was growing up watching roland rat on a saterday morning dribbling n farting in my big boy pants every other advert was the boomerang, hotshot, the 959 and through brainwashing of them adverts I had to have them, years later I could afford them as my mum and dad couldn't at the time, 16 years old got a well payed job for my age I went straight out and went to beatties and guess what I bought a Tamiya a tl01 why because I remembered the fun I had with madcap why a tl01 cause I thought the cossie body it had was awesome then never touched it for a years never ran it, read my intro when I joined this forum explains why. fast forward to now 35 years old got fed up seeing my sorry looking tl01 went mad spent a fortune turned into a drifter spent loads on an abc hobby et voila 1x 69 skyline gtr drifter again see thread. why did I do this because I could, then I went to a model shop looking for parts for the voyager project im doing what do I see a re re boomerang because I could I had to have it no other reason except I always wanted one nothing else. on price my opinion who actualy cares if you think its ok and you can afford it great the price is what you pay, if you cant afford oh dear more saving to be done in my case anyway. are the Tamiya cars flawed well they are and there not, they give you the option to make it better with hop ups, think rc is based at kids correct, would you want to give your kid an rc that's so fast stable best thing manufactured on the earth for 10mins later daaaaaaaad ive crashed it theres your basic Tamiya kit aimed at introduction, kit build replacement parts to keep you playing with your toy after that happens ,kid grows up skills get better welcome to the better kits that has then a knowledge that its not easy to use rc effectively and that the basic kit needs things better theres your hop ups and priceier kits. bottom line we all joined Tamiya club for a reason we all like the marque, will it make a difference to tamiyas pricing by these threads no as we will still buy there stuff for our own reasons. just my take on this thread no offence intended, and not pointing fingers or anything

I cant use a heat gun on this steve it would blow or melt the tiny decals and by tiny I mean applied with magnifying glass and scalpel :-/ theres not much left to do just gota stick it all together now and light block them areas, weather up and clear coat and mount to base then its done at last with the model forum im with they are running a star wars comp which starts on the 13th of this month I think which im doing darth vaders tie fighter I got some cool ideas for that so that's next on the list then theres a a comp in march im going to enter so ill either do the BIG E 1/350 or open to suggerstions the mrs suggested a Babylon 5 ship im thinking battle star galactica as I want to be a bit different from the other 1/350 enterprise builds I am going to do the big e its just got to be done all 36inch long of it
-
well gona bite the bullet here and buy another voyager that's number 3 now lol :-/ today I have had death by decal and pics to follow soon. also aimed at crispy when you apply your decals how do you lock them on I was thinking of giving it an overcoat of matt clear to secure them in place, whats your thoughts bud?

hey up guys been a while but ive dug the old girl back out made a command decision and decided to stop messing about and get her built so im using the trek modeller lighting kit and get her put together. NOTE!!!!!!!!! never get a friend to offer help and be patient for months to then find out said friend has been moved away with all my base and electronics for the wings and soundboard grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!! any way moving on ive made a new base now she is 90% put together now looks pretty good just waiting for things to dry etc but I have run in to a problem and need a rescue :-/ WANTED!!!!!!!!!! I need the right hand warp engine (green side) clear plastics for the front of the nascelle (red impulse part) the pic below is what im after for the other side I seem to have miss placed them and realy don't want to buy another voyager for the sake of two little clear parts I am going to start again with the moving wings and soundboard etc so you can see how i made it before it went on voyage with out voyager :-/ ill use whats left out of the original kit and no i don't have the clear parts from the original as they where glued to the engines and wings that my so called mate has heres what im after, and im sorry i cant full fill my expectations on this model for now guys and heres where i am at now with her
