the plot thickens .... the seller of my Active Hobby Lotus has an uncut body... perfect for mold-making
-
asking how much the suspension tower sits above the wheel in millimeters. Blitz P1- It looks like the McLaren P1. Thinking it'd be fun to have on a 210mm car with some alterations to fit.
-
No.... not up for sale, it's taken me two years to find one. I'm planning on making the bodyshell/decals more available so others can build one from a JL12e/M.Rage/Cup Racer/etc. To be clear this is not a Tamiya M-Chassis car, it was made and designed by Active Hobby Japan, then the A210DS was rebranded as the OFNA JL-12e. As you can see the Active Hobby A210SS is simply the FRP/carbon/alloy version and the OFNA JL-12e/Active Hobby A210DS is the same design done in plastic. I finally bought/found one for a reasonable price- an Active Hobby A210SS complete with unpainted body. I love the proportions of this body. It just seems right. And it's an m-chassis car dimensionally, which makes sense for an Elise/Exige. The kit, minus body, would later be re-released as the Ofna JL-12e. So parts aren't impossible.
-
Both actually, paint the chrome after you take the spoke portion off. And when you have the spoke plate off, paint the part of the spokes that is filled in black, like @neverfollow did: And yes, I love building outside the box :-D
-
@Ciano67 I love how this is looking. I've refused to build any of my 037 shells with a TA03R-S due to the battery holder sticking out underneath, yours looks like it will clear obstacles nicely!
-
Nicely done, good build. Have you considered using a black marker or paint to black out the wheel mesh where it is filled in? I totally would, but I've already used up my wheels from this kit on my Countach build. And the body is going to an M06L (lol yes i care too much about engine position). And the chassis is going to an off-road Lancia 037 build.
-
Owned two real Lancias. Have nearly a dozen Lancia RC bodyshells :-D Tamiya 037 x4 HPI Stratos x3 Killerbody Stratos Turbo x1 Tamiya Delta x2 Totally going to order eventually the KB LC2 and maybe the KB Montecarlo in spite of its awkward proportions.

251mm wheelbase option I wager. I did this for my TT02 / HPI Countach build.
-
Very cool, thank you a lot for that info. How big is this tad? 5mm? 1cm? I have a a FakeLarenâ„¢ P1 body I'd like to run on the M.Rage, the body is intended for a 1/12th scale pancar.
-
This is how it goes for me. I do keep a Google Sheets document with what body/esc/motor/receiver is in and will go in which car. Being into scale looks, I've compiled a list of rare and out of production bodies that I'm looking for complete with part numbers. I also save search strings for eBay to trawl for the good stuff. "I don't know what this RC is but i think it's a Tamiya" some of those are the best. Like the M04 I got for a whole $50 ... been looking for one for years, trying to find one for about 100 dollars. Lastly, I have a GMail draft for each build I do with notes about how I'm going to accomplish what, what seems to have worked for others previously, and which parts can be bought nationally vs. internationally. This mostly pertains to a vintage or retro-modern build.

@salvine If you want, I have a complete TA03R-S chassis that I do not want. Yours for a very low price. I went the TA05 shortened wheelbase route instead.
-
lol you got me... i keep repainting my Stratos from it's kerb escapades.
-
Are you building a Stratos? If so I'm curious if the M.Rage's front shock towers are too tall for the low profile nose of the HPI body. I used to run the body on a Vaterra Kemora (now Losi Mini Rally), but knew ultimately I'd buy a Cup Racer for the IFS setup.
-
But of course. Cup Racer with Cross rims... which are way under-sized I might add.
-
After spraying painting a few rims and having the paint flake off, for my Stratos build I went to dying white rims yellow. Curious to know how it goes for durability. The dyed rims work so well even in crashes the color stays. Here's a pic before I kerbed the rims.

Oh you live in motorcar Mecca. LOL at the fact of being stuck behind a P1 in traffic. I've only seen one P1 in person, that was at the local exotic car dealer. I have to say, and this holds true with the 12C too, you can't appreciate the curves and design of the car unless you see one in person. The pictures don't do it any justice.

I do not currently have the SOK decals but would love a scan if you know anyone. And thanks for the note, I've clarified my car is a SuperTen not a PureTen. The Lark and Gulf cars are PureTen, the SOK and Fina cars are SuperTen. This only refers to the 'longtail' F1 GTR, Kyosho has made many 'standard' F1 GTRs. ^Longtail, or 1997 onwards Standard F1 GTR, or pre-1997
-
Just fine. This is a long term project. I'm currently fixing decal artwork for a trade... scan of the Gulf livery sheet. Ahead of the McLaren in the build queue: M06 Porsche 911 GT2, TA05 IFS, TA02. I found that I'd been looking to hard for a chassis when it is obvious... Apparently some Kyosho Fazer EPs (like the Dodge Charger) feature a 274mm wheelbase. The car is only 200mm wide but I plan on running extra wide offset wheels anyway :-D
-
thanks for linking that. Kyosho makes that series in exquisite detail. for some reason any model that's below 1/18th scale has no appeal to me
-
I misread it as Ferrari 512. If it was Berlinetta Boxer... I would need 10 kits! Beautiful nonetheless.

Where we're going we don't need roads...

Perhaps. First I'm going to see what the 911 GT2 is capable of..... on 3s. rear wheel drive, Rear Wheel Drive, REAR WHEEL DRIVE!!! I need one of these cars to hit 91.1 mph. Looks like the TA05 with better aero could do it according to youtube. IDK if it really hit 84mph... being airborne tends to add speed (aircraft speed up considerably when the wheels are off the ground)
