Another New Porsche 911GT2 TA02SW
firefoxussr replied to vtecboost's topic in Re-Release Discussions
Why they don't make a ta02 Lancia Rally is beyond me. Way better fit. -

Keep at it. I still haven't built my TA02SW from last year nor my month-old XV01. It's like people want me do things other than RC?! -

thanks percymon for doing the first 959 shell on the MF! Looks cool. -
Whatever you do don't mount a HPI Lancia Stratos on a M03 or M05. I saw a fellow racer put one on, didn't fit had to cut the nose to fit over the shock towers... oh the horror. Plus FWD chassis on a mid-engine RWD car is just WRONG. Not that it stopped Tamiya from doing that with the current Mazda MX-5.

Why not put some m-chassis or hpi cup racer wheels on the 934? Or perhaps use some F1 wheels, which are small in diameter and wide. You're just a spindle away from it :-)

I never hide my spending from my wife. She knows if I spend on me, I spend on her too. She isn't interested in the mechanics but gets a kick out of decorating and modification. She helped me with mold making recently. I'm excited to make the vacuum table next... unfortunately I have a buck to clean up first (lots of sanding).

I just picked up this body shell with a kit, don't really want a BRZ. $30 USD plus shipping. Comes with body, decals, masks, plastic parts, and light fixtures. And note there are no body post holes, so it will fit any standard wheelbase touring/drift car.

Mercedes C11 Sauber - The rebuild log entries
firefoxussr replied to pininfarina's topic in TC Designs...
Keeps it planted, easier to drive... but not faster. That said, your objective for best result would be to have a similar weight to the original car (with NiMH battery) with the additional panels & LiPo. Then again, it's solid axle and kingpin sprung... so minor point. -

LiPo. The car is heavier now from the new detail panels. Colin Chapman says- Simplify, then add lightness. -
My second new-in-package complete kit. XV01 with Subaru BRZ. My first was a 911 GT2 re-re last year. Come to think of it my TT02 was new in bags. I bought it minus box, body and wheels, but still in the respective parts bags. Then I put a beater Ferrari body on it with cheap wheels. After that was pretty ruined, I put a Lamborghini Countach body on and repainted the 911 GT2 re-re wheels for it. Oh and widened it with the optional hex part.

I regularly to go the local park for it's 8 tennis courts (and one usually occupied basketball court). I can use my F1 cars and Cup Racer, both of which are less than 10mm off of the ground without too much destruction (the tennis net poles are not very forgiving...). Now if I have the TT02 or anything I don't mind getting scraped, I go to.... Parking Garages. Here in south Florida the top 2-3 levels are all but unused. Which is even better when it rains, because I can still drive! I'm mostly on-road, but I do take the buggy to the park. I will bring the newly acquired XV01 after building.

Keep at it! I have no less than six bodies to copy. I bought them knowing I'd have to learn how to do this. And that Pantera shell is so lovely! I'm on my second one. -

I love that you have made the side intake functional, it should also cool the ESC while in motion. I had to do that on my buggy's ESC after frequent thermal shutdowns (just making intake and holes above for the heat rising up). -
I love the STR replica. Yes, it's the HPI shell with Cross rims. Found some more TT02 Countach pics after a request on URC: BTW... the Countach shell is not Tamiya, it's a HK copy of the HPI Lambo. 210mm across the rear flares... so it uses 32s in the back... with the wide hex set ($$$). And it was necessary.... see on standard 26mm 0 offset:

Finally added some mirrors. Tamiya really should make a Stratos RC

Won it. Anyone want a Toyota GT86 body? I need a Lancia Integrale.
-
Managed to not unnecessarily bid on a TA06 with carbon chassis.... very tempting. Mostly because I may accidentally win an XV01 in an hour. Seriously, if you're bidding on a XV01 with GT86 body .... I won't out bid you, it's maxed. And neither of these would be a racecar, which means I really just want to get a racecar.

Lancia Rally on a TA02S, that'd be so easy Tamiya!

Advice needed on painting R\C wheels
firefoxussr replied to AndyjcClod's topic in General discussions
I've got to give that a try, I want to buy a set of wheels that are only made in black which I want to paint another color. Last time I painted a set the paint flaked/broke off within the week. (and this is an on-road car) -
I'm so curious about this aspect. That said I like the 06 rear gearbox idea. I like the idea of less belts. Should be more RWD-like given that the rear wheels have a more direct driveline. I'd like a car that is RWD with 4-wheel braking. 2WD RCs locking up the rear wheels breaks the realism aspect for me.
-
I'm keen on reselling my RCs. I like the evolution of improving my chassis collection. For example: I did finally sell my TA03R (converted to TA03R-S spec). That was because of TC... once I found out about converting a TA05 to 239mm wheelbase. The 03 was so ridiculously heavy. I've also sold both of my Tamiyas that have been raced. The M05 because front-wheel-drive isn't my thing, although hilarious to watch burnouts. The F103 later due to its primitive solid-axle design. I did end up buying a 3Racing FGX to replace it, pushrod suspension all around is a revelation. The grip is unreal.... on narrower tires. That said Tamiya bodies are forever, I have half-a-dozen which are painted! They are all too precious (OOP) to bash or race, so I will patiently learn how to make copies to provide runner bodies.

Tamiya's Lancia Rally - A Different Take
firefoxussr replied to Grastens's topic in General discussions
The motor may overhang a lot if you're doing the any of the re-release shells. -
Raced yesterday, placed midpack which is great considering how sporadically I race! Only destroyed two bearings the whole day!
-
Thanks! I like the offset where it is for now, the wheels are 31mm wide and offset 6mm (per VTA class rules). When I had a non-racer I went with 34mm wide setup and 31 in front (which was too big in front).
