What chassis for an off road/rally Mini?
firefoxussr replied to Peter_B's topic in General discussions
This times 1000. I could finally build a proper front-engine RWD MX-5/Miata, Giulia, Z4, S13, ... you get the point. -
I bought an HPI Alfa Romeo GTV body last year just to run an FF03 or similar. Also to mock Fiat/Alfa for making a sweet looking car in FWD

Cant decide which direction to go body wise 🤔
firefoxussr replied to Wooders28's topic in General discussions
Since you don't live in the US, go for the Dukes livery, it's iconic for that particular car. Sidebar: My used M05 Mini came with a Mini Cooper in Dukes of Hazard livery including the confederate flag back in 2014. It even said "General Wee". I removed the flag after a fellow racer asked me if I wouldn't mind removing it. This was a great guy too, he helped me tune my very out-of-date F103 for racing, gave me a litany of spares/tuning parts from his F103 days. Do understand the context: this is south Florida with a few bitter people that are all in your face about 'southern pride', which in my opinion is nothing to be proud of... you lost... move on. Hmm, the Scottish flag would look more tasteful against the orange body anyway! -
@Shodog fix your 911s! the GT1 needs the mid-motor chassis. Buy an M06 for the rear-motor 911 GT2, far more realistic and fun!

I'd seen the Petrolicious video and thought "i'd like to see one of those some day!". Let me find that Jay Leno vid now! I like his joke about the Countach's windscreen hammer. And yes it was quite over whelming! I took 430 photos! -
I hadn't seen this thread in a while. My my was TLJ that bad? I saw it twice and enjoyed it quite a bit. Does it have the character of the 40+ year old films? No, how could it. Was it as bad as episode 1-3, of course not. Was it as good as ESB? No, that's the best. As charming as ANH? Nah, too modern. As good as R1? Close but I'd place it around the quality of RotJ (pre-Jedi Rocks, of course). Does it mostly work and have a lot of fun with the characters and topple the patriarchy? Resoundingly yes. Also, keep your eyes peeled for 4k77. It's almost there.

I went to the Amelia Island Concours show this weekend, finally! I knew the above cars would be there, which was so satisfying. But I was shocked to see this in the car club area outside of the show! "I don't know Bob do you think the intercooler is big enough?" I have more pics of course, https://imgur.com/a/SeW0H . -
Have you been Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart? I'll show myself out.... .... My collection includes these weekly drivers: XV01 Lancia Delta (soon to be Subaru BRZ for night time driving), TA05-S 911 GT1, and M06 911 GT2. Then I have these which used to run but need servicing: HPI Cup Racer Lancia Stratos, X-Ray T1 Pantera and 3Racing FGX. These are future builds or partially built: M04 Lancia 037, TA02 Lancia 037, TA05 IFS Alfa 33 Stradale, and Active Hobby A210SS Lotus Exige. Then I have the vast OOP bodyshells collection that keeps growing: Tamiya: CLK GTR 200mm ND MX-5 Porsche 911 GT1-98 Ferrari 412T1a HPI: TVR Sagaris TVR Tuscan Countach MX-5 used MX-5 uncut Diablo copy Alfa Romeo GTV6 Jaguar XJR-15 Other: KY McLaren F1 GTR CR Mercedes-Benz CLR Panoz GTR-1 FakeClaren P1 MRP Lotus Esprit MRP Ferrari 308 Gp5 Turbo The body collection doesn't necessarily have a planned body, sometimes I just want it and figure out what is the best fit for the car. So at current I have a modest fleet of 13 chassis (I actually have 3 FGX chassis). I'm considering buying the new Lancia TA02S (cracks me up because i was going to build one from my 911 GT2 TA02SW chassis). Also definitely on the purchase list is a MST FXX-D for a genuine front-motor RWD experience, with longitudinal motor no less! Also does anyone have a built BSR M.Rage or M04 chassis they'd like to part with? I need both for upcoming builds.

Grastens Builds (and Runs) the Lancia 037 Rally (TA-02S)
firefoxussr replied to Grastens's topic in The Builds
I like what you've done here! Are you going to remove the lower valence on the rear? I know I am on my Totip build. -
It'll only be on sale for a day or two before it sells out. I like their shirts, genuinely limited. Have one for a Ford RS200, Alfa 33, Lancia 037, Stratos and M1 and I have been nothing but pleased. This time it's the elusive as a Tamiya... Lamborghini Countach. I really like what they did here with the 80s nostalgia. https://www.blipshift.com/ First one I posted was the Ford RS200:

I have an 85% done Totip livery drawn up. Haven't worked on it in a couple months. Just needs stripes. It's all done in Adobe Illustrator, so very high quality and easily manipulated. If you want a copy of the digital file, PM me.

Home Made Vac Former - Forming RC bodies
firefoxussr replied to yogi-bear's topic in General discussions
I haven't but certainly plan to. It's been taking so long I think it's best to use everyone's best ideas. I think the thin mold may be the key as it's easier to add suction points for details & creases in the bodywork. I'm very interested in how vacuum pressure is distributed on the body as I gather that is a primary problem that loses detail. I've mocked up how my first vacuum box will look, so I know what supplies to buy. -
Home Made Vac Former - Forming RC bodies
firefoxussr replied to yogi-bear's topic in General discussions
Keep at it ! The evolution of your knowledge is imperative for others that want to replicate OOP bodies. I found on RC tech this really clever way to make a thin casting of an original shell: I tried it and my casting thickness is about 1-2cm. Here's a comparison shot with the CLK GTR shell I tried to cast as multi-piece and use up some of the volume (which didn't work properly). The biggest issue I had with the CLK was the weight of the plaster distorting the shape, which is also not helped by the CLK being a previously cut shell. I would fare even better with an uncut shell. Every other OOP shell I have I've not cut for this reason, the CLK came that way used. -

Everything I love by this manufacturer. Okay, I have a soft-spot for the 906 too! -
Lancia 037 Rally Body - On TA02-S chassis?
firefoxussr replied to TWINSET's topic in Re-Release Discussions
Wheelbase-wise the Peugeot 206 WRC and Toyota Corolla WRC shells that originally were made for the TA03F-S would work. I'd love to see a reissue of the 206 shell, incredibly rare and beautiful. -
I'll be gentler, run a sensored setup, i wouldn't be surprised if all of that chunking from a non-sensored motor destroys gear teeth. Come to think of it I've only had one instance of stripping spur teeth that was on a sensored motor and at least ten with an unsensored motor.

I've been contemplating buying a Manta Ray shell and putting it on a sturdier buggy. I do like the design a lot. Also my favorite animal is the manta... so i'm biased to put it lightly. I understand the wing is individual to the car and somewhat rare. So I'm down with a re-release of this. Futher point, on a stock Manta driveline, what's the upper limit it can handle without damaging the driveline with ease?

How Likely Is A Porsche 959 Re-release?
firefoxussr replied to Colt Seavers's topic in Re-Release Discussions
I'm convinced Tamiya is listening since the TA02-S Lancia 037 after I said like 5 times that I'm re-purposing my TA02SW re-re chassis as a 037. Maybe they'll take the hint and start building M06 911s too!!! Tamiya... one more word about the M06: DeLorean. Make it happen. And why no front-motor rear-wheel-drive M-chassis? That would be $$$$$ -
Lancia 037 Rally Body - On TA02-S chassis?
firefoxussr replied to TWINSET's topic in Re-Release Discussions
The replicas never look right! I want a panel-perfect one like the Bell STR Stratos. Yes, a good Monte will fetch money. My friend's '77 Scorpion sold for 25k USD a few years ago. TBH...I wouldn't want to sell it if I were him... it was so perfect. I sold mine for about triple what I paid for it... but I improved the car quite a bit. When I bought it it wasn't running, brakes were seized, and a few other issues. When sold; it had a 2.0L block, non-floating front calipers, 1982 grille, quad-headlamps, double-bubble top, MonteHospital DCNF aircleaner box, etc. Still I couldn't stomach paying upwards of 3k USD for replica european bumpers (a large portion of this cost was shipping to the US). -

Tamiya Club Official Top 10 Fastest RC'ers List
firefoxussr replied to Jason1145's topic in General discussions
You need the coolest LeMans prototype body you can find.. it's required Gentle on the throttle if you're a nut and did this with a 20mm shorter wheelbase touring car I did my speed runs with a 5.5T on 2s with a SpeedPassion ESC rated for 5.5T. It's completely fine but after about 5-10 full power runs the ESC goes into thermal shut-off, give it a few mins and let it cool and all is well. -
