some low voltage alarms for my lipos, some antenna caps and ive purchased a big toolbox to keep everything in one place (an attempt to placate the wife a tad!!). failed miserably as it doesnt all fit and her attention has turned to the ugly black box in the kitchen rather the mess on the dining table. tried suggesting we farm out a child so i can have my own dedicated mancave but she didnt really like that idea for some reason.

i have had mixed results with mtroniks/modelsport escs. i bought 5 rv12 asaults about 18 months ago and i also have a tio storm 14 and a second hand ansmann sirius one. 2 of the 5 rv12s have been fine and have been used a lot with lipos with no issues at all but the other 3 were fitted to cars and only run once. last week 2 of these 3 went up in smoke for no apparent reason and one lost reverse. all the electrics that were connected to the fried ones have been connected to various other esc including the other rv12,tio storm and ansmann with no issues? faulty batch maybe but out of warranty now so no replacements or refunds.
the ones i have that work i really like apart from the ansmann as the reverse has a big delay and only low power.

im currently rebuilding a manta ray and im wondering what peoples thought are on what shocks and servo saver to fit. seen plenty of the high torque servo savers from tamiya but they all look different to the one fitted on my manta ray. is there a direct replacement or is there one available from another manufacture?
cheers

got the hobbyking esc's today so ive soldered some hxt bullets on them and tried them on the hyper and guess what? they work fine. same motor, same reciever, same battery and same servo. the technigold motor now plays a tune when i power it up which its never done. is that right? i can only put the problem down to faulty rv 12 assault's which is weird as i had 2 go up in smoke and one with no reverse. the other 2 ive got work fine with the same electrics electrics and so do the ansmann sirius and mtroniks tio storm which are as near as **** it the same esc.
best part of £80 worth of esc's gone up in smoke after 1 run each and for no apparent reason.
oh well!
will see how these cheapo hobbyking esc's last.
-
the motor is a technigold and it runs fine with the cheapo generic chinese esc's that came fitted to both my carnages and it wasnt even connected on the 2nd esc that did a Dot Cotton impression!. the rx which was attached when both esc went poof! has been fitted to a carnage with an identical esc with no problems and is back on the hyper ten with a cheapo chinese esc with no problems? the only common denominators are the battery and the servo. the battery has been fitted to all the rv12 esc's (5) and subsequently an mtroniks storm tio 14 with no problems(essentialy the same). the servo is the only thing left but i cant see why it would blow the esc without damaging the rx which still works with other rv 12's and the cheap esc's.
edit*
i have noticed in the instructions for the esc that it states that should have capacitors fitted to both poles and the technigold doesnt appear to but they have run together before. the technigold flies on lipo!
gonna buy some cheap esc's from hobbyking that work with lipos and give them a whirl with the suspect servo and see what happens. if everything goes ok i might swap an rv12 out of another car and see it fry's again.

spent the afternoon trying and failing to fit some receivers to my cars and destroying esc's in the process!! (see electric thread)
spent the evening wondering why i bother!!

need a bit of help as ive fried 2 x modelsport rv12 assault esc today! i got a flysky gt3c tx and some hobbyking rx's which work with it and today i went to put them on some of my cars. i fitted the one that came with the tx to my carnage with no problems so then i went to fit one of the hobbyking ones (which are identical to the flysky one) to my hyper 10 and had no trouble binding to the tx but i found i had no reverse. the esc leds were showing reverse so i put it down to a faulty esc so i fitted another one connected it all up and went about setting it up. everything was fine until i turned it off and the motor kicked up and ran flat out until i turned the esc back on. i checked the operation of everything again and all was fine so i turned the esc off again and it ran the motor flat out again and went up in smoke. now the last time i ran the car everything was fine so i thought maybe the rx had a fault so i fitted it to the carnage i had done earlier to test and everything was fine.so i put the rx back on the car i was doing and tried another rv 12 esc which also ran fine last time out. this time i connected the rx up to it and the steering servo but no motor and then connected a battery and that immediately went up in smoke. so now i have 2 completely fried esc's which have only been run once but did run fine and 1 which has no reverse which also had run fine last time out and the only new part i have fitted is the rx which gave no trouble when fitted to another car with the same esc? also i have tried some old esc's i have and had no problems. the only common thing other than the new rx is the servo on the car but it seems to work fine and i have had no trouble with an old esc. could the servo fry the esc's? all this was done with a lipo battery but the esc's have all been set up and run on lipos. ive also fiited one of the hobbyking rx's to my monster beetle which has an ansmann sirius esc which is basically the same as mtroniks/modelsport esc(but without lipo support) and had no problems at all.
what gives? is it the servo frying the esc's? is there something the esc's dont like about the new rx's?(although i have 2 fitted and working on identical esc's) is it just bad luck and the esc's have just been bad ones?
im now down 3 vehicles with the esc problems. i have had the same esc fitted to my carnages for a while and have run them hard in any weather and had no problems. grrr spending too much money on these cars and ive taken 10 steps backwards today for no apparent reason!!

Here you go: http://www.screwfix.com/p/de-solv-it-graffiti-remover-1ltr/45293
Only use it on hard bodies mind, it'll melt Lexan on sight.
I've stripped a few vintage hard bodies with it, awesome stuff!

own colour and original decals works for me too. ive just bought a shell for my beetle (see my newbie thread) and was gonna rub it down and go with another colour with original decals but now its arrived i really quite like it so will stick with it(for now lol). today a shell arrived for my clod which does need painting but im unsure which way to go with it as yet. was thinking of the Fall Guy truck but im guessing thats been to death.
i like the 1 stock and 1 custom idea but im not so sure the missus and kids will be thrilled having to give up living space and food!!

being new to this tamiya thing just wondered what the general thoughts are on box art vs custom paint. im gonna paint my cars however i feel and im not selling anything but then again none of mine are new builds or shelf queens.i just wondered what the community in general things about the pros/cons of box art.is it more valuable/desirable or does it not matter.

steve i would agree prices are creeping up. i try to buy joblots of assorted stuff to try and get what i want but its getting harder and it can be a pain scouring pictures to try and identify certain parts. ive hit the point where ive got to pay decent money for the bits i need. i.e body shells to complete models. i do have to just stop and forget about the stuff ive got as i would just spend too much. proper addict. get hooked for a couple of months and then i have to go cold turkey so i can afford the bills!!

some more pics!!
Ta-02 runner but last time out melted the fitted kyosho motor while running lipo's. new pinion needed i think. motor may be salvageable. box of spares...pretty sure ive got a full cars worth. ignore the dodgy tyres..my lad has a thing about changing the wheels all the time!!
Falcon and spares. runs just needs some tlc.
Hobao Hyper 10. cant find out a lot about this but its fast. running a technigold motor andand it flies. it takes a beating and never seems to give up. not sure its together 100% as ive no manual but it works.
FTX carnage. got 2 of these for bashing. really take a beating to be fair. me and the lad have jumped these off ramps at the local skate park and some huge snow drifts last winter.run them in anything whatever the weather and they just keep going. breaks a few body mounts and bumpers and mine just needs a new shell and rear shocks fitting after it flipped jumping off huge snow over a bunker at the local golf course. bits are cheap too! brushed on lipos.
Manta Ray project. pretty sure is a RW racing chassis. has aluminium shock towers. ballraced, front cvd driveshafts. uprated steering with ball raced pillars. ive got hop up prop and joints and motor mount on the way. just need some shocks and a way to mount a lipo battery and then electrics.
need a good shell for it as i currently only have this dirt thrasher shell and a badly damaged manta ray shell for it.
and thats it other than loads of random screws, gears and other parts. have quite a bit of radio gear to go with it but being old the range is poor. also got a syma helicopter in one of the boxes that works too!!
as you can see no shelf queens here!! could all do with a bit more tlc but ive been concentrating on getting them all together and running!!

some pics.
kyosho outrage. just needs some better steering arms ,wheels and electrics.
monster beetle. has esc and sport tuned motor. just missing rear bumper and rear body mount crossmember. pictured with current audi tt runner body shell and madbull wheels? i have made some little steel supports for the rear shocks because the plastic ones keep breaking.
new ebay purchase. pink body shell!! was gonna repaint it but now its arrived i quite like it and its not a bad standard so im gonna leave it. just need to paint nose cone but not sure what colour yet.
and i found these in a bag of wheels which helped sway me.
Clodbuster. pretty sure its complete other than bodyshell and front bumper. uprated steering servo. got a new bright bodyshell at the moment but ive won a proper shell on ebay and i have all the proper mounts.
Manta Ray. complete standard runner with badly painted shell.

wood5tock. know the film almost word for word!! lol -
i will try and get some pics up tomorrow depending on what time i wake up! not lazy working nights honest! postie woke up me 2day twice delivering shell for the beetle and some slipper clutches for the carnages. he might be waking me up twice 2moro if the clod shell and manta ray hop ups turn up!

got mine years ago when playing counter strike and me and my mates changed our names to characters out of our favorite films. my favourite film is jaws and Hooper just sounded better than Quint or Brody.

cheers for the replies guys.
it has a standard servo saver fitted but the white ring/spring is worn/weakend and keeps popping out. funnily enough while i was sorting out some suff today i found a new one but id already ordered one of the high torque kits with the metal rings. the steering is already uprated with a ball raced kit form RW racing as its on a RW chassis. as for the shocks i was browsing on the fusion hobbies website and came across the 90mm GPMrear shocks for the df-03 so ive ordered 2 sets.
