Hey backtomyroots I love the way your clod looks. Just wondering where I could find myself a set of those Tamiya gold shocks?oil? I prefer the look of those shocks over the full length spring types. They don't look quite as real.
-
At this time I'm leaning towards either the 50s chevy truck body or the 66 f100. But there is also a part of me that want's to go crazy and make a redneck looking contraption with a muscle car or similar 80s or older car.
-
What have you guys done with you're TT02s? I'm saving up right now and thinking about the complete yeah racing aluminum conversion kit. Doesn't seem to be a lot of tt02 action out there? Why is that? I have the capri body done up as more of a street car than the race car.
-
My thing is I don't want a newer truggy body and I don't want a truck body style new than the 80s. I'm also leaning towards 1970s and older car bodies. Lexan and replaceable is preferred as I'm prolly not going to be very nice to it. I just don't want to crack up my original clod body anymore. I would even consider hard plastic bodies from other brands as long as the proportions were right. I even debated a blackfoot body but those are kinda pricey for what I want to do with it.

Just wondering what other people have run besides the factory hard plastic chevy body on a clod? Please post pics of it. Also please list the maker and model/part number of the body. I was thinking of one of the hpi muscle car bodies. Or even an older truck body. Anyways thanks for any help.

Also the Imex jumbo dawgs are much wider but shorter than clod tires. I will say that when they were on my monster beetle they rubbed quite a lot up front. I don't know if a blackfoot body will give much better clearance.
-
I will say that with the imex jumbo dawg tires and rims my blackfoot was very fun. It looks great also. Be pre warned though, you will need a very high strength steering servo as these tires even with just plastic rims are very much like clodbuster wheels/tires. You can't really turn unless it's moving. You will love the look though. I'm not sure on tire size besides jumbo dawgs. But you may be able to use the slightly bigger wider clodbuster tires also.

So I recently got a old 1986 clod and the steering servo is week. Already had to replace the main chassis, links, motors, and soon the steering linkages. The servo is next on the list. Upgraded to the 2.4ghz radio setup.
What I'm looking for is a servo that wont kill me cost wise but is at least strong enough to the move the tires at a stand still and return to a neutral centered position while still allowing me to have rear steer? Currently it dog tracks something fierce and no amount of adjustment makes it better. Thanks for any input.

Dude where did you get those tires?

Where can I get ahold of one of these beetle bodies and will it fit a tt02? I really love your build and would love to have a VW beetle with the fuchs from the 911 tt02 kit.

I personally run MSCs because I like how you can get that reverse to forward snap that just seems to not be there in an ESC. That being said I would only run them in LB/MP or any of the Frog chassis kits where wheelies are a must.
-
Oddly enough even though I currently own a Lunchbox and Pumpkin. I find something about the pumpkin to just be not quite right proportion wise with the chassis? But it fits the lunchbox just right. I never will want a wild willy or any of the short wheelbase wheelie types. I think the LB/MP chassis has enough wheelie in it.
Those wantanabe? grasshoppers scare me. Cows? purple? good parts to convert a LB to a purple chassis but that's about it.
Love the clod but hate the bullhead due to it's odd body proportions with the chassis.
I only like the original body styled Blackfoots.
Can't get into any of the buggies besides the frog or hornet. I don't like the buggies that get too spaceship looking.
But since I'm newish to the hobby I can't comment on a lot of them.

Well from what I've seen with my 18turn brushed motor. You could have very well worn the plastic teeth on both the gear that contacts the motor gear and the larger ring/spider gear in the center. I recently stripped mine. I couldn't imagine what a brushless would do. What's this aluminum gear you speak of pizzachaude? Might be a worthy upgrade over the factory plastic in the LB/MP.

I did check the white resistor and it was warm but not hot. It wasn't anything I had to pull my finger away from. Thanks for the tips guys.

Well since I had a couple spare MSCs laying around I decided against better judgment to do a little testing. I order an 18T Ansmann Kong motor and dropped it in my VLB with the old electronics and the MSC.
So far after running it for near 3 hours straight with only enough cool down time to change a battery it's still going strong. Motor got warm but never hot thanks to the heat sink. Checked the temp on all the electronics and the MSC not even warm.
Has anyone else done anything like this and how long did it last? I'm not really a fan of ESCs but I'm biased because I just like old school things.

Just read through all of this and I have to say that the way you found it(or it found you) was perfect and your restoration is awesome. This is an awesome piece. Congrats on the score and the great work.

At this point I'm just looking for something that works. Thanks for checking though.
-
I'm willing to bet it eats dogbones like crazy. Depending on how this week goes and where the bidding goes I may end up with it. I really dig the overall vibe and this give me a cool start to play with and modify so I can leave my original Blackfoot alone. I think this thing would really rip on the beach.

It has an FP-R2GS

I will check into it but I do know that my remote and crystals are good because they're the same ones I use in my LB. I've checked every crystal set and even the ones that came with the Blackfoot work. I'm going to get the part number for the receiver and find another one. Or does anyone else know a list of what was available/optioned when these were new? As long as I can find something that works at this point I would be entirely happy. I would use the MSC and receiver from my LB but the plugs for the servos and battery are different. Thanks again guys.

This thing is cool but I have to wonder how exactly the dual front and rear tires are mounted together. I really want the rear Imax Dirt Dawgs and the alloy rims. But alas the cash is not there and I really don't need another Blackfoot.
-
Thanks guys I feel very lucky to have this and soon to be Hornet in the same condition. I was thinking water and a sponge but I was a little nervous about introducing water to the decals.
As for the Receiver issue I've tried 2 sets of crystals and swapped the crystals from the controller to the car and then back twice. The previous owner said this thing was running perfectly 2 years ago. I've pulled and re-plugged every connection. I'm just at a loss unless it's the receiver.
If the servos were dead would the still do the initial jiggle on start up? The steering one is at least good because when you turn the car on with the wheels turned it pulls them into the neutral position. Not to sure on this one as I'm trying to do everything I can while also not messing up what's there. Thanks for the help guys.

I don't have a clue what it is but man it sure is cool.

So this past weekend I picked up this 1986 Original Blackfoot off the original owner. I have to go back for a Original Hornet with box in the same condition as this Blackfoot. The backstory is that as soon as these came on the market his dad bought one for him as a father son project. He used it sparingly and kept pretty good care of it. I will have to go back and get more stories out of him on my next visit.
Anyways overall it's in great condition with the only problem seeming to be a bad receiver but more on that later. The body has no cracks at all and the chassis has almost no damage or so much as a scratch really. He did paint the rims silver it seems and the tires are stiff with a little cracking but overall I'm very pleased for the price I paid. Even came with the box in decent shape with some of the tubes of grease/oil still in their boxes but used. Some spare parts trees, Instructions, and all the other misc paper items that came with these brand new. Sorry that all I have is a crappy cell phone pic right now but I will get more later.
My plan is a simple tear down and clean but I would also like to make it function. The radio that came with it didn't work so I used another radio and crystal and still nothing. When you turn it on the front servo twitches for a second and if you move the MSC it has all forward and reverse settings but there is no communication between the receiver and the rest of the system. Is there a way to trouble shoot these or am I stuck trying to find a replacement? I want to keep it as original as possible. Also what is the best way to go about cleaning the body without disturbing the graphics? Thanks hope you guys enjoy this little piece of history as much as I do.

Ive got a MP that the previous owner painted a candy blue over the chrome finish and I gotta say it looks great and very unique.
