  1. JeepnMike, you are correct. I was looking for opinions but also suggestions on motors and ESCs since I don't know the current players and what would be a good setup for one of these cars. Thank you for the suggestions.
  2. Hey guys... I am looking to get a new charger. I have several that are "vintage" and don't put out the amps needed to properly charge my batteries any longer. I would like one that does NiCD, NiMH and LiPO and I am looking for suggestions. Are the Duratrax Onyx chargers any good? Tower Hobbies has the model 200 for about $40 and then better models go up from there. The model 245 appears to have 2 chargers in one which is attractive. I know that I want a built in balancer for LiPO but I am just wondering what people use and what experiences they have. I don't want to but something that I will regret and I don't mind paying a little more for a better unit although my wife would disagree with that statement Thanks!!
  3. Thanks guys but it seems like I started a holy war here... lol. I tried to make it clear that I am a "novice" in the current technology after being an "expert" some 25-30 years ago so I was simply curious if it was A) Possible, Recommended and C) Anything else to worry about. My take away from this is to probably run the standard brushed motors like I have and perhaps upgrade to a LiPO battery and charger combo so I can gain longer run times and increased performance simply based on the reduced weight of the car. I also fully understand that increased performance motors are not recommended for the Monster Beetle due to the axle and rear end design or the 959 for a variety of reasons. As for the RC10s, I think they all have standard read ends but one or two might have upgraded gear sets. Remember, it has been a LOT of years since I used to run those things. Once of them has an Astroflight Turbo 05 motor on it and that thing used to screw pretty good. I think it was a 6T motor but that car used to blow away most of my friend's cars back in the day
  4. Yeah I ran a Technigold motor in the Monster Beetle when I was a kid and that was pushing it... many stripped half shafts in that design. I want to get some upgraded shocks for the Lunch Box but I do have upgrades on my Hornet. I have an oil filled shock conversion that I think was made by CRP where you cut the shock uprights off the front and it is replaced by a metal shock tower. I also have some upgraded shocks in the rear but I have no idea who made them. So do you have any suggestions on a brushless motor and ESC? This newer technology is completely foreign to me.
  5. Hello guys... So I have a bunch of vintage Tamiya cars from the 80's and probably haven't run most of them since 1990. I see that some people have converted cars to brushless motors and ESCs and wondering if any of you have done it and if so, do you have any suggestions. I have a Hornet, Monster Beetle, Lunch Box, Porsche 959 and Bruiser for Tamiya cars. I also have 3 RC10s, a Mugen Bulldog and a Marui Hunter. I have always loved hopping up my Hornet since it is so easy to work on and upgrade so that would be my car of choice to mess with. Has anyone done this? I am also running some Venom 7.2v 1800mah batteries and would like advice on upgrades... perhaps LiPo? I seem to be reading that they can run for a long, long time. Anyway, I am just looking for a project and something to do with my son. He has been having a lot of fun since I took the Hornet out a few weeks ago. It still runs pretty nice with the Technituned motor in it.
  6. I had one of those but with the blue end which as someone said was the "Black Endurance" motor. I used to run it in a Marui CJ7 Golden Eagle when I was a kid... quick and cheap upgrade.
  7. Thank you for the information guys. Things have really changed since I was into this stuff. Are the Duratrax Onyz chargers good or are there better options? Tower has the 200 for about $40 and the better models go up from there. It says it works with MiMH and NiCD so that is attractive to me since I have a bunch of 1800mah NiCD batteries that I bought a few years ago for my Hornet, Monster Beetle and Lunch Box.
  8. Hello everyone... I am new to this site and this is my first post I am getting back into RC cars in order to enjoy them with my son and when I was a teen, I was a rather avid Tamiya fan and still have a decent vintage collection. One of the cars that I have is the Toyota Bruiser "Hog Heaven" truck. It could use some TLC but it still runs and is in decent shape. I have the original Tamiya 6V 4000 mAmp battery and after sitting for over 25 years it isn't in the greatest shape. With that being said, I am looking for any advice on a replacement battery and probably a new charger for said battery based on today's technology. If memory serves me correctly, the Bruiser has a rather large RS750 motor so the battery has to be able to put out some serious power to move the truck along. Again, I am getting back into this and I know that technology has changed... I was rather familiar with NiCD batteries but with LiPO and MiMH I don't have a clue so any suggestions on a good battery and charger would be appreciated. Thank you for any help.
