Wild Commando Nitro/Glow Truck - what is it worth?
rally1998 replied to Kooks's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Over stock, it's got Hostile Rear Tyres and Silverback tyre beads, CPI Big Bore Exhaust Pipe (Loud isn't even a good enough word to describe it, shock limiters, heavier duty CV boots, Killer Bee Kill Switch (so you can kill the engine from the remote in case of a runaway situation), The windows and that's it. Got a pull start cover outerwears too just to stop grass and rubbish getting in that.- 21 replies

Wild Commando Nitro/Glow Truck - what is it worth?
rally1998 replied to Kooks's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
All of them were RTR apart from the Baja 5b SS, I thought one of the trucks was a kit too but it'd all be made clearer when they come out. Yep mine is a beauty, takes serious abuse. This was not long after I got it... And this is how she sits today...(currently rebuilding it, giving it some love).- 21 replies

Wild Commando Nitro/Glow Truck - what is it worth?

https://www.hpiracing.com/en/kits/CPEF All should be coming back I'm not sure if any of the trucks were a kit to build though. You could buy a conversion kit off them to turn your Baja into a truck so I'm sure they'll all resurface too.- 21 replies

Wild Commando Nitro/Glow Truck - what is it worth?
rally1998 replied to Kooks's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Yep that's the one They are going to release them again at some point but the new owners of HPI have come across some complex manufacturing and licensing issues but they have said it WILL be back but under a different part number. I have faith they wiill and personally if you want to build a kit, that'd be the one to go for when it comes back! In my opinion of course.- 21 replies

Wild Commando Nitro/Glow Truck - what is it worth?
rally1998 replied to Kooks's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
1/5th seem to mainly come RTR. I have a HPI Baja 5B SS which came as a kit but HPI Racing got into difficulty and are only just emerging from the other side with new owners who are getting production back up and running. The Baja is going to be the last to be re-introduced. Clones from China flooded the market place Rovan and KM mainly which kind of disrupted the market and I'm sure had some bearing how HPIs previous decline. The ones I listed before are genuine and personally I'd stay away from the KM/Rovan Clones. My HPI Baja SS Kit with radio gear came to about £1,000. Like I said, expensive to get into but barely spend a penny except oil and fuel since!- 21 replies

Wild Commando Nitro/Glow Truck - what is it worth?

Get yourself something new and popular so that that there are loads of spares, support and community. If you want something easy to run and want the 'engine' experience, a petrol R/C would probably be the way forward for yourself. Super Quick, incredibly reliable. Most use either CY or Zenoah engines so you can get spare parts all over the place. You basically break them in, tune them once and they go on and on and on and on. Nitro's need tinkering, fettling, adjusting the tune for weather, humidity, fuel if you do it right so ideal for people who are into that, but if you just want fun to bash about with. HPI Baja, Losi 5ive, Maverick, MCD. Granted they are ALOT more expensive to initially buy but you will get longevity and enjoyment out of it.- 21 replies

Wild Commando Nitro/Glow Truck - what is it worth?
rally1998 replied to Kooks's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
No probs! As Simen says, the Terra Crusher and Wild Commando and really all the big Nitro trucks from Tamiya were probably not as well sort after as the competition. The FS-18 engine wasn't a particularly good runner, overheated, after some decent use fuel would start leaking out the back plate causing the starter one way bearing to slip. They'd run hot. No low speed needle and the biggest gripe for most....under powered but I think the lighter wheels sorted that a little bit on the wild commando. You see HPI Savages get bid on like nuts but the big Tamiyas not so much. I reckon you'll get over £100 but that's only an educated guess.- 21 replies

Just seen your listing, let it run if you've set a reserve you're happy with. Prices I think at the moment are anybody's guess really, I've seen them go for peanuts and I've seen them sell well.- 21 replies

Yep that's right, my cables are OK but the plastic bit that houses the connector for the starting pack has crumbled on mine. Really I just want to have a little stock pile of bits for the Terra Crusher as I have not really got any spares for it at all apart from the plastic bits you got as spares when it was new that I still have. I also have a new piston and sleeve for the engine but no other spares.
-
Do you have the starter cables? Any Engine Bits?
-
After anything useful really, does anybody have a little stock pile of Terra Crusher Parts that aren't on eBay?

Vintage Terra Crusher Restoration
rally1998 replied to rally1998's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
After now having the re-invigoration to get my old stuff going, I did manage to get hold of a new piston and liner for the FS-18 in the truck. However, I am wandering if I could plonk something in that will be plug and play with modern available parts etc? Are the mounting holes for nitro engines standardised? I am wondering if the HPI T.30 Nitro Star would drop right in? Seems to be a well regarded engine, bits are available freely and although still a .18 it has more power, a slide carb and side exhaust... I'm not looking for mental speed, just something reliable and easier to tune and easier to get parts. I'm not looking to use this truck regular so maybe just keeping everything stock is the best answer as then it'll be all original and 'correct'. -
I have had a look and they are available, how good are they?

That's cool. Do you have any pics of yours to post here? When you say you have built it, did you manage to buy a new old kit recently or you had this for a long time? This one of mine I built from new, got it for xmas probably 1999 or 2000. When I would have been 11 or 12 years old. Sheesh such a long time ago now. Really I guess this will be mostly kept on a shelf but I can use my original body to mess about in the garden with it and then put the new nice body on it on the shelf. I think I'll paint the new shell the recommended colours as my original shell, we couldn't find the original colour in stock anywhere so being impatient got a flat blue instead of the metallic.- 25 replies

Thanks for this. I was searching all day yesterday and happened on an old listing from Tonys Tamiya bits for a wild dagger shell, used the part number and it came up with 1 still for sale at Tamico in Germany for a Sand Shaker. Thanks to seeing a thread elsewhere and yourself confirming it, I have now ordered it woohoo! Well happy!- 25 replies

Need to learn to read posts properly, sorry I thought you were selling it. I've been looking quite a bit today at potentially trying to make a new body myself? Seen some good results with home made vacuum tables and plaster of paris. Are there any good threads on here you know of where people have done this?- 25 replies

Vintage Terra Crusher Restoration
rally1998 replied to rally1998's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Well, This got left by the wayside as is usual with little projects like these. Since I started this thread the Terra Crusher, my Wild Dagger and Hornet have been put on hold but I am looking to start once again restoring. Everything had been put on hold due to life in general but more importantly, we bought our first house and...the most amazing and most important news ever for us, we had our first child! Any other Terra Crusher owners here on the forum still? -
Just want to say Thank you very much to @Tamiyabigstuff This arrived today along with a lovely little gift from him too. Thank You

Hi Guys, Trying to track down a Cylinder Sleeve and Piston for a Terra Crusher FS-18. Do you know if the Sleeve and Piston from an FS-18S would fit? Does anybody also know about the construction method of the 18S sleeves are they nickel like the 18? Cheers
