Vintage Monster Beetle - A New Look
Ian_Gsi16V replied to Ian_Gsi16V's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
I've gone back to my Sport Tuned and tbh, it's not *that* much slower than the BZ but it gives good run times and they seem to take abuse extremely well . Here is mine with the Sport Tuned, probably fast enough for an ORV truck...- 88 replies

Thinking I might make use of my TL01 body and build a road going car, Does anyone have any cheap rolling chassis's? Don't really mind what it is but would not looking to spend much on this one plus it needs to be able to take a TL01 body...

That's not good bud, did you buy it brand new? Maybe get it refunded? I came to the same conclusion as you, I would never buy another Tamiya performance motor again!- 88 replies

Blitzer beetle rebuild / ongoing runner project
Ian_Gsi16V replied to Ian_Gsi16V's topic in The Builds
Cheers I have plenty of other cars but with regards to running them, I have been there and done that, when I got back in to the hobby I decided to focus on a single one and chose the Blitzer as I think it's a great all rounder, I like the idea of making one as good as I can (within reason) rather than splitting any R/C spends across multiple cars. I have since expanded on that and also have my Monster Beetle runner as I wanted a spare / another project That said, once I finally buy myself a digital radio system I will get all my other cars in to a running state, some of which haven't turned a wheel for many years -
Blitzer beetle rebuild / ongoing runner project
Ian_Gsi16V replied to Ian_Gsi16V's topic in The Builds
Got chance to run a pack through this yesterday, waited until late afternoon when the local retail park closed and swapped the wheels in to tarmac mode. It's running fantastic now, very smooth, no issues at all apart from a severe lack of traction No plans with it for now apart from use and abuse it as usual I have some footage I will upload when I get chance. The only issue of the day was my nephews Stadium Thunder crossed the path of the Beetle in full chat and got t-bonded which smashed the gearbox of the Thunder, luckily I have a spare so that will be fixed this week -

I'm 90% sure they won't but could well be wrong! -
Had the Blitzer hitting some decent speeds in a local car park

Blitzer beetle rebuild / ongoing runner project
Ian_Gsi16V replied to Ian_Gsi16V's topic in The Builds
Cracked on with this tonight, firstly on the front end. I have replaced the axles with new ones and replaced the eyelet on the arms so it's tighter now, so far it seems to have removed a bit of slop. The wheels look like they are toeing out in the picture but in person they are sat fine. I've also added some spacers to the shocks as the front had none and it sat a bit low, as the car was originally built using whatever was left of the original 90's Blitzer, a few bits like these where missing, rooted through my spares box and found some, sitting better now. Now i just need to find sometime this weekend to give it a test run! -
Finished off putting my brushless blitzer back together after various fixes. Looking forward to giving it a test run now!

My first attempt at putting a couple of videos together using the youtube editor. All video was shot within a single run.

Vintage Monster Beetle - A New Look
Ian_Gsi16V replied to Ian_Gsi16V's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
This got a nice run yesterday with the Sport Tuned. It's never going to set the world on fire but it's reliable and probably is enough power for the chassis. Got my first bit of damage on the new paint during the last run, it's happened now so it's back to carefree running- 88 replies

Blitzer beetle rebuild / ongoing runner project

Cracked on replacing the worn out parts on this today. Stripped down Old drive gear This was replaced with the new bits shown in a previous post, didnĀ“t take any pictures of that though for some reason! I want to check a few bits on the front end but hoping to give it a run in the next few days, prior to this fix the back end was skipping and jumping when the throttle was applied, seemed silky smooth when i tested it earlier. -

In my experience, for off road you can't beat the originals, granted they wear down insanely quickly on concrete but grass / sand / dirt they a great, plus they are pretty cheap! I've had a set on for months, made sure they have only been used off road and they are still good as new. -

Pro Line Street Hawgs I think... Bit big but they do the job if you glue them, don't perform on concrete as well as I hoped though. -

Vintage Monster Beetle - A New Look
Ian_Gsi16V replied to Ian_Gsi16V's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Yes! That is the exact symptoms of mine! Sadly, in the UK all the Superstock motors are now very costly, for the same price I could probably get a brushless system which is a shame as I wanted to stay retro on this model- 88 replies

Vintage Monster Beetle - A New Look
Ian_Gsi16V replied to Ian_Gsi16V's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Tried that, it worked great for a while but after a handful of runs it's dead again which is a shame as it's a great motor for the MB but to expensive to replace. It's been an ongoing issue for years- 88 replies
