Yeah, I've been watching these recently. There's some amazing kit on show. You'll soon go off the idea again when you see the prices...
-
Oh yeah, Sin City Motors, forgot about that one. I don't like anything he builds, but it's not a bad watch.
-
Watched some YouTube videos from those massive RC Truck meets. Looked up prices for some of the amazing kit I saw in action. Added one to the mental shopping list, but below other stuff that is way more achievable (helicopter gunship, pet leopard, house on the moon).
-
Actually, I'm out. I've just seen some prices for the sort of stuff I've been admiring in the videos, and I paid less than that for all of the actual 1:1 cars I've ever owned. I knew it would be a significant outlay but I'm utterly staggered at the amount of money some people will blow on a (let's face it) toy.

I happened to see a cheap (and cheap-looking) toy fire truck at the weekend that looked about the right scale for a conversion. It's made me revisit this idea, and I've been watching lots of YouTube videos taken at those big RC truck meets. This one in particular is amazing (the truck, not the video) : It's only a matter of time until I get dragged into this 1:14 addiction. When I was a kid this stuff would have blown my mind, not that I could have done anything except watch other people drive theirs around back then. I actually went to a small truck meet at RC Model Shop Direct a couple of years ago, and watched with a mixture of admiration, jealousy and, erm, something else. It's all kind of a bit nerdy, although I'm pretty sure I could get hooked on it to be honest. However, despite the whole point of this thread, I think on balance I'll probably go for a Euro-style heavy haulage set-up. There's a lot of custom building required there too : 4-axle tractor with 4-steerable-axle low-loader trailer with a big excavator sat on it. See, I told you I'm easily distracted. As markbt73 said above though, it's all dependent on money, time and space...

Cheaper Receiver for the Core-RC Code Multi-Model

Lots of negative feedback in the last month. "Item didn't arrive". "Worst Ebay seller ever". "Awful customer service". etc. Hmm. -
Cheaper Receiver for the Core-RC Code Multi-Model
StrokerBoy replied to JWeston's topic in All things electric...
When this hobby sucked me back in almost 5 years ago, I decided I ought to embrace the future and bought a CORE 2.4GHz set. I've got 4 cars running off that now, but 7 old ones still happily running 27MHz. Got two new builds to start soon, and no spare receivers. Very tempted to go 27MHz for those too now, bearing in mind how little running I do. -
Midnight Pumpkin, 'cos it was the first one I got (and I still have it).

SRB Cage Racer - aka. Mjolnir (the heavy metal Hammer)

SS on one side, RR on the other, but very subtle... -

Another one of your ace threads that I'd somehow missed altogether until now. Top work as usual. -
Car Chasers is on every day at 6pm, I usually manage to catch a bit of it. That's not a bad watch, though I wish he'd stop ruining 55-57 Chevy's.

American Hot Rod used to annoy me a lot. Working in places like that ought to be a dream job, but putting stupid deadlines on builds for no reason at all just created tension. No wonder most of his staff left to go elsewhere, Boyd was a horrible boss. I realise a lot of jeopardy is just contrived purely to make 'good' TV and enhance the story, but it didn't work on that one. Overhaulin' was better, and at least on Counting Cars you get the impression that Danny's staff enjoy working there. I like Car SOS even though it's over-sentimental and Tim is a tit. The first 2 Salvage Hunters Classic Cars were OK, although the Mini was much nicer before they 'improved' it. Not tried the new Wheeler Dealers yet, though they got rid of the wrong man...
-
All your stuff is utterly amazing. It ought to inspire me to improve my own builds, but frankly it just makes me want to give up altogether.

Goblin Works made a mess of the Mk.II Escort and totally ruined the Land Rover. Don't get me started on what they do to motorbikes. But I'm afraid I liked the Capri, even though I liked it before they touched it too. Most car programmes are poor, but when the alternative is Emmerdale or Celebrity Big Brother, I know what I'll be watching.

How dare you use your imagination Grastens ! Everyone knows LEGO should be built exactly as per the instructions and any free thinking or creativity should be discouraged.

Watched some YouTube videos of full-size heavy-lift truck/trailer combinations (34 axles anyone ? ). Love that ALE Trojan tractor in the pic below. Needless to say, someone's already done similar stuff in RC, I just wish I had the space and the money (and the skills) to do the same.

Tamiya 58655 - Citroën 2CV Charleston (M-05)
StrokerBoy replied to Grastens's topic in General discussions
That looks amazingly well done. Not for me though, I was once offered a ride home in a 2CV and chose to walk in the rain instead. -
What cars do you all drive?
StrokerBoy replied to clarkey's topic in Anything not RC related goes here
I had one, bought a 2-year-old one and kept it for 7 years. Had a few problems with the variable-intake gubbins but nothing that really kept it off the road. I kinda miss it but I swapped it for a VW van which makes certain aspects of my life much easier. I want a Transit Custom Sport next though which would be the best of both worlds. -
Based on my 4 years of learning Japanese at evening school, you stress all syllables equally and short most of the time, so it's "ta", "mi", "ya" (where "mi" is pronounced like the English pronoun "me").

Ronnyhotdog's "realistic" CC-01 Unimog 425 Build No.2
StrokerBoy replied to Ronnyhotdog's topic in The Builds
Looking forward to this. No experience of the CC-01 but a big Unimog fan. Unlike the 406, I don't think you can buy the Tamiya 425 shell separately can you ? So (he says cheekily) if anyone has one going spare, I'd be very keen. -
A few days ago, but only uploaded the pics today.
-
Looks ace. It was the CW01 Unimog release that sucked me back into this hobby almost 5 years ago, I just happened to spot it online while looking for something else and, well, here I am. Probably my favourite vehicle, even though I hated doing the shell. I want a Unimog 425 too but it'll have to be on the wheelie chassis.

There's only one local-ish shop round here now, I've been going there (on-and-off, mainly off) for 30+ years. The chap that runs it is a bit odd, he can be super-helpful but often just makes you feel like you're a major inconvenience. He has a younger assistant who's great but not always there. So you walk through the door hoping to spend £20 on paint or something, and either come out with a smile, the paint plus a brand new kit you didn't know you wanted, or you end up going home in a sulk, ordering the paint online and vowing never to darken his door again.
