Hi guys, I am a bit confused (and worried). I recently stripped my pinion and spur gears in my M05 (made the mistake of not changing out the aluminum pinion) so I purchased the 3Racing high speed gear set off of ebay. (This car is just for bashing, not racing) Not thinking about it, I went ahead and also bought a Robinson Racing steel 20T pinion gear. My question is, will the 20T pinion I bought work since the gear ratio will now be different? Also, do I still set the motor mounts in the same location as before? (screw the motor into the '20T' mounting location? This is the description I copied and pasted from the seller but I don't quite understand what they are saying... This is the 3Racing Fast Gear Set For Tamiya M05 For the fast gear set, the gear ratio are: 33/21, 35/21. The original gear are 37/21, it will be more fast than the original gear ratio setting. For the original setting, pinion gear ratio are 16, 18 and 20T, use with 35T spur gear, pinion gear ratio are change 18, 20 and 22T, for use with 33T spur gear, pinion gear ratio are 20, 22 and 24T. Fast gear set provide a high speed for your m-chassis. Thanks!

So far I've ran the car about 10 times and am really impressed how well it handles on dirt. I've been lapping the bases on a baseball field and it turns on a dime, even on loose dirt. The only time it gets 'squirrely' is when the terrain gets bumpy...the cartwheels the car does are pretty impressive though I was a bit worried about the ESC getting too hot, since I'm running a 15T with a Tamiya ESC rated for 23 turns minimum but it has not shut down again...I always see if I'm able to touch the ESC after I run it and it is definitely warm, but I can hold my finger on it. I will have to see how it does once it gets warmer outside. The only issues I've had so far is the ball connector screw on the steering rack unscrewing itself (forgot to put loctite on it to begin with) and the rear shocks leaking just a little, making them spongy. No biggie, took an entire 10 minutes to refill the rear shocks.

Thanks guys! I've ran the car a few times now and really am impressed how well it handles. I took it out yesterday to a baseball field and it turns on a dime and is really smooth. It literally was caked in mud afterwards and when I tried running it again, the steering servo went wacky on me and just wouldn't respond...after plugging and unplugging the servo from the receiver several times, it seems normal again... So far, with the 15T motor, the ESC only shut down once for about a minute after some very heavy running...I definitely will keep an eye on it. The car seems kind of 'slow', even with a 15T motor...everything seems to be moving freely, it may just be me... I royally screwed up painting the body. It started okay, I got some over spray on the windows but in my infinite wisdom decided to use paint thinnner to try to take it off...big, big mistake. It basically deformed the lexan and made it look much worse. Oh, and I'm not done...I then decided to try to paint the windows with black spray paint I had lying around the house to try to hide the blemishes...it basically destroyed the paint I already had on it. I researched how to 'properly' remove paint from lexan and spent about 2 hours stripping it with brake fluid...not a fun night...I then rinsed the body 3-4 times with dish soap to try to remove all the excess brake fluid. It turned out okay, I guess but not very good....some of the paint simply would not adhere to the body. I looked into buying a new lexan body, but really don't want to shell out $50 for a 'basher' body....definitely not one of my 'brighter' moments One problem I'm having now is I just bought an Onyx 18000mah nicad battery, which doesn't seem to be fully charging....there is a definite reduction in speed to start, compared to my other batteries. Do batteries normally require a 'break in' period?

That's what I did =) it's at least a good starting point. Thanks for the help and support!

Still have the body and wing to trim and paint...pictures coming soon =) Goodnight all

All done, minus the body and wing posts and some tweaking. You can probably see in some of the pictures that the servo is way out of alignment. I had to remove it and recenter it. Also the caster/camber is a bit off...I didn't see anything in the directions about toe in/toe out?

Installed last of ball bearings...almost finished!

The tires took some muscle to mount. Not sure if I will need to superglue the tires on or not...
-
Decided not to install the receiver box...it just seemed too cramped with all of the wiring. ESC and receiver mounted with supplied double sided tape.
-
motor cover...I apologize for the dark picture!
-
Servo turnbuckle installed
-
Steering tunbuckles installed
-
Ugh...look at all those parts!

Pretty easy upgrade despite the confusing, hard to read directions

Front and rear shocks done...these were probably the easiest oil shocks I've ever built =)

Decided to go with some 37.5 wt shock oil I had around
