That looks great :-)
I love the look of the Brat, it might be my next buy. The wheels and tyres seemed expensive compared to LB ones but I might get a set in having seen how tough yours looks.
I am new to this and a bit slow so forgive me but what is a crawler motor? Do you have an example or link?

Lunch box hornet Noah:
Well it runs a lot better on wet grass than it used to and is better on tarmac too. Spent a lot less time on its roof
The boy even got a go. Set the trim to full forward and just let him steer .
Anyone do an LSD for these?

What is involved with a meet and do you struggle for locations?
We have a huge hard floor sports hall, 15 ish grass football pitches and a three court Tarmac MUGA. All available for hire.
Only downside is the location in Grimsby

+1 on the Futaba S3003. I had so many other entry level servos, and all of them were imprecise or made annoying noise even in neutral position. Once I tried the S3003, it became the standard for all my 2WD buggys, apart from large wheeled models.
The Hitecs are really no use in Tamiya cars unless you can get your hands on dedicated Hitec servo savers.
Looks like I have been sold a counterfeit servo
It is vibrating and twitching like a crack addict in the methadone queue and is very slow.
I have contacted the seller but do not hold out much hope to be honest.

I have just rebuilt a set of shock I had spare with 30 weight motorcycle fork oil.
So far so good

As I was walking down the corridor at work the other day a fellow working noticed the tyres I was carrying ( all my parts get posted to work :-) ) and asks if I am in to RC cars. Turns out he has a Cen Nitro WRC car collecting dust he wants rid of for a cheap price ( not sure what cheap is yet)
Is it worth a punt and should I go for it? Even if it is for a quick laugh and sell on.

I got a Hornet off EBay, a fresh build with some spares for not a lot of money.
The plan was to run it around the garden with my 4 year old. Two issues, it is too fast for my son and it will not run over my grass.
I took it in too work to give it a run ( I have two sports halls and several Tarmac courts to play on ) but found it was not much fun on smooth surfaces, the front pushes and the rear spins. The knobbly spikes lasted about 5 min of doughnuts.
I made the mistake of buying some new wheels and tyres blind before I realised they were not universal fit
A quick ask on here for some ideas for a more ideal kit and someone suggested some lunchbox bits.
New front axels and wheels ordered from EBay along with stronger tie bars
Some work needed to get the balls fitted in the servo saver and arms but I could not resist fitting.
Not sure on a colour scheme yet. Might have to have some yellow to match the wheels as I do not want to paint them.

All these 4x4s are bending my mind. Definitely on the look out for my next build

Here you go:
http://www.blackholesun.fr/RC_Tamiya_OffRoad_Chassis_US.php
It's not up to date with the latest models, but should be sufficient for a start.
Brilliant some reading to go at there
-
I can see how this could get out of control
Is there a site with listings and pictures of all the frame types and bodies available? I think I feel the need to read a bit now
-
Sweet
Might look at a scheme for my Hornet now. I never thought about going off box.
-
On order.
I have ordered a lunchbox axel kit and wheels as well so I can use the car on the grass in my garden.
-
Well I have ordered wheels and tyres and an axel set.
Sure with what that lot cost I could have got a new car.
EBay is a killer, while I was there I ordered two 1/32 kits for the kids to play with while I test the new monster rail.

So it lunchbox my hornet I need

As far as I know, Hitec servos have an odd amount of teeth on the spline.
For which the basic Hornet servo parts do not provide a correct fit.
So the servo would be alright in itself - but it might be easiest to get a Futaba or Sanwa (compatible).
Like this one?

I am having fun googling all these options
I will put them as listings on EBay and see what comes up cheap first
-
I have popped the servo out and it is a hitec hs 311.
Is this a factory fit one?
When the handset it turned off the servo is twitching and it looks like it does not always reset to the same place.
The Hitec looks like it is about £7 on eBay, should I just get another one of the same?

You'll benefit from upgrading the steering arms to Lunchbox style rods too as the wire Hornet arms can bend easily and they're gonna be under more stress from the bigger tyres. Had a lot of fun when I tried it though, behaves a lot like a Madbull

I have some work to do on the front anyway so this might sway me.
If I got a 4v battery pack would it work but slower?
-
If your Hornet is struggling on grass, how about doing a big wheel conversion?

Now I do love the look of that.
I will look on EBay for lunchbox parts and see what I can do.
I will look up a couple of the other models mentioned too. Thanks all, looks like bargain hunting time

I guess I went a bit far with "go any where" more use anywhere we happen to be.
More multi purpose rather than single minded

I am new to this world but I picked up a pre built unused Hornet cheap.
I am finding the hornet is pretty much useless for me. Grass too thick for it to run at home and paving and sports hall to slick to run it at work. Also far to fast to let my 4 1/2 year old son play with.
So what do I buy as a second car? A slower 4x4? What bits can I share if I just use one car at a time? Radio gear, battery's, I have a couple of spare motors that came with the hornet.
Any ideas / suggestions? I am a competent mechanic so can do just about anything and would rather play and keep costs down rather than splash out on new.

The front wheels need to be set up with a slight toe-in angle for better straight line stability. If you need the manual, you can find it for download at tamiyausa.com
RTFM? To be honest I had not thought of that and it should have been the first thing I did.
I will download and have a read, I might learn something about the rest of the car.
I am starting to get slightly addicted to playing about with this new toy now. New touring car wheels on the way to try and get some grip on the hall floor at work.

It's the white attachment that you put on the servo to connect the steering rods with.

Thanks. Seems like an odd name for it. I will take it off tomorrow and see

Many thanks 80t ordered, I was looking at the £15 ones so a better £20 one makes more sense.
