  1. OK here they are......the one on the right was a Sand Rover once....honest.
  2. Thanks for the motor info, I've ordered some cheap 540SH, that should be OK. I heard they are undriveable on any special sport tuned model. Rear tyes - I'm only going on what I've read, the HB "suspension" (a fibreglass torsion plate across the back) fouls on the wider Grasshopper tyres.
  3. G'day, (although I am an essex boy born and bred) To add....here is a summary of what I have found from my experience and a few hours searching the interweb. Open to any comments, corrections or advise. Front bumper (both were broken):- Buggy Champ bumper is the same molding, in black not grey, and still available on ebay Wheels & tyres (all rears are worn to slick):- almost impossible to source now, and they are unique. Grasshopper ones won't fit, I'm going to try Subaru Brat wheels/tyres for the rears. Seems a shame as I really like the spiked ones but they don't seem to be very common any more on any hubs 540 hop-up motor:- motors are easily sourced (but not sure what 540J vs 540S vs 540SH means) 540 motor mount:- almost impossible to source now, I have one that came with the SR so I might try and copy for a second (2 kids need 2 cars on the same power!). I think the HB will take the 540 mount although it wasn't mentioned in the manual. 540 gears:- this is done by removing gear B and turning gear A over. Not sure which motor pinion would be best 15T or 18T. Would love to replace these plastics with metal. Universal Joints (serious play in these):- these are 5mm shafts, I'm sourcing some generic from ebay china Sand Rover body (mine was replaced with an aftermarket after a serious incident with a parental foot):- maybe I'll get lucky on ebay!! Servo Horns (these are too brittle after 30 years and broke on first minor bump):- I am planning to try the Trickbits KO/Acoms Servo Savers, and replacing the 'U-bend' steering arms (they are seriously vague) with straight 2mm threaded bar ESC:- replaced the speed servo with HobbyWing 1060 ESC, this runs great. This means you get to remove the 4 onboard AA batteries (that was an unexpected bonus). I had to swap over the +/- on the 3 pin plug that goes from the Acoms receiver to the ESC. Gear Shaft Bearings:- I have read people talking about this being a good idea, not sure where to start on this. cheers Tim
  4. Just to say hello.... I have just joined the forum as I've recently had my boyhood Holiday Buggy and Sand Rover shipped out to Australia. I think they were bought in 1983 and they've been in the loft for at least 25 years.... Amazingly they are now running after new batteries and ESCs. My kids are loving proper RC cars and I am enjoying the nostalgia! Planning to spend some time tidying up and fit 540 motors (if I can get hold of any mounts). The cars themselves seem pretty simple but tracking down parts looks a challenge,,,,sounds like there is plenty of tech knowledge still out there!! cheers Tim
