  1. I cooked some cow and pig on an open fire, burned my finger tips picking up a rib bone, and ate way too much. Then the the family and I set off fireworks to celebrate the birth of our nation. Now, I'm on the second load of dirty dishes, with 2 more to go....
  2. Take a look at the Traxxas TRX4 kit. It comes with a transmitter, esc, and all servos. The only thing you need to add is a body, battery and charger if you don't already have them. It is quick enough in high and a 3s to spin around your yard and can switch to low and do trail and crawl. They perform very well out of the box, but could use a little weight added low. Here is my truck with the Proline toyota body and tires.
  3. Here is my Dancing Rider I have just finished except for painting Willy. I am going to paint the helmet the same color as the body, Spatzstik candy root beer. I installed front led lights and the rear red lights flash. I put on a pair of hpi vintage rear wheels and tires. If I decide to use those I will paint the front wheel to match as close as I can.
  4. Tamiya has released newer designed the last couple years. M07, TA07, Evo7, TRF 419, dancing rider. Most newer designs have been onroad, I don't think off road is as popular in Japan.
  5. As I said earlier in the thread, Tamiya does NOT see an increase in profit from the MAP change. I do not know why they added a MAP policy in the US, but most companies do have the same policy. I also found out this change did not come from Tamiya USA, but from Tamiya Japan. If you want a Tamiya kit, go talk to you local hobby shop and see what they will do for you, minimum advertised price is what can be shown, not what a shop can sell it for. This helps the brick and mortar shop. Give them a chance to earn your business. I cannot guarantee they will price lower, but I bet many will.
  6. Speak the truth Speedy! A bruiser is out of my price range, but I would never purchase a Chinese knock-off. That company didn't spend the time to design, test, or do the legal thing and pay Toyota for the right to use their name. Every time a person purchases any knocked-off product, the nail is being slowly driven into the original company coffin. Many companies have felt the negative impact and there are untold numbers of people who are selling knock-offs as genuine. It got so bad with Castle Creations motors, they had to place a warning on their web page.
  7. Yes, ring and pinion in the front gearbox.
  8. Sounds like your front ring and pinion is wearing allowing it to skip teeth. At high speed when the brakes are applied hard it stresses those gears hard!!
  9. That is usually caused by one cell having a much higher internal resistance. Basically what happens is the cell with higher or takes longer to discharge and the better cell discharges too low. No fix for it, if it is an old pack time to trash it, it will only get worse over time. If it's a new pack you can try to cycle it a couple times, but most of the time it ends up being a bad pack.
  10. I you guys want to check out a pretty decent show, check out roadkill on YouTube.
  11. Removing the adapter took all of 3 minutes. Only 3 screws. I don't know how much slower it is on 2s, but 3 is almost perfect.
  12. Now that I'm home here are my thoughts. I am using a dx3r pro, a pistol grip transmitter, I think some will find a stick a little easier, the more you lean the stick, the more the trike will lean. I have a Futaba 3003 installed, and it is a little too quick on the return. If not steered smooth on the return it has a tendency to wobble. It will jump off a standard curb with no issue if you have a little speed. We have poles supporting the overhang and I really enjoyed doing a slalom through. Going slow enough to not go wide, but not so slow it would turn too sharp and hit a pole. It is nothing but good fun, even at the slow speed.
  13. This thing is soooo much fun to drive! I defiantly wouldn't call it fast, maybe 20 MPH, but the most fun I have had in a while.
  14. Definitely a different drive. I only drove it for a couple minutes in driveway on storage charge. Unfortunately I spent today working in the yard so I didn't get to run it today. I'm seriously thinking about getting a second one to build a brushless one to see how far I can push it. We may need a 3 wheel category in the fastest Tamiya thread. 😂 Here are the pics of battery I said I would post. Yes I will paint my Willy. Seeing as this was a gift fromy boss at the hobby shop o will take it in so he can see it and maybe drive it. I have the battery charged and ready to go!
  15. It's, interesting. I didn't charge the battery, I ran it for a couple min with the battery on storage charge just to set up the radio and see how it drove.
  16. OK, got it assembled and found a 3s battery that fits, it's a tight fit but it fits without pinching anything. It doesn't need any foam or tape. I will post pictures tomorrow. It's a kinexis 1200 3s available from Horizon Hobby, part number KXSB0013.
  17. I can not say 100% on the bruiser, but my dancing ridder was the same price wholesale before and after the map change. If it wasn't for the plastic line, Tamiya would not exist anymore. Novak, lrp, hpi, and many, many rc aircraft companies have gone under the last couple years.
  18. Tamiya will never be a mainstream rc brand, but also remember rc is not their main line. People don't want to build a kit, the first question is always how fast, and most don't understand Tamiya quarkyness. They sell tons more plastic models than rc, and the map policy has a much larger impact on that side of their business.
  19. Tamiya establishing a MAP (minimum advertised price) does NOT add a single cent to their profit margins. What it does is help the small brick and mortar shops who cannot compete with the big online retailers. Tower Hobbies was selling the kits at approximately a 10-15% mark up for what they wholesale to individual shops. For a small shop when overhead in included there was no profit in a kit at Tower prices. There have been several posts about local hobby shops closing, and Tower, Amazon, and overseas company's undercutting everyone is a lot of the reasons why. Tamiya USA priced items on their web site at retail to not compete with small shops and encourage people to buy locally. I cannot tell you how many times people come in and look at our products, ask a bunch of questions, then say I can get it a couple dollars cheaper online and leave. Then when they have their first problem they come to us frustrated and mad because their new truck is broken. We always help get them back running if we can and I hope we are building a loyal customer. But there are a few people who complain and expect us to rebuild the truck they got on Amazon, after kid ran into a light pole at 30 mph for no charge because it is under "warranty" because they are too lazy to fix it themselves. Those are the ones I have to bite my tongue to not say, "call Amazon and ask them for help". Items can be sold for less than map, but cannot be advertised or posted online lower. We sell items to our repeat customers below map often. Sorry I went off on a rant there.
  20. I didn't have a lot of luck with the ball dif, to me it was more trouble than it was worth and just stuck to the gear dif. If you bought the kit new, there is a pinion hood in the kit used to set where it mounts on the motor shaft. Your spur probably was damaged when your pinion came loose. Use the hood and as long as the pinion doesn't move you will have good mesh.
  21. I know many of you guys don't like Traxxas, but attached is a picture of us with the 50 year plaque they sent the shop.
  22. As promised, here are the pictures of Mr. Hayes train layout.
  23. I just got my kit in but haven't started to assemble yet. My plan is of right now is a spektrum mini receiver, hobby wing 1060, low profile savox servo I have in my spares box. I work in a hobby shop and was planning on trying several aircraft packs, 2s and 3s to find the best fit. I use Dean's plugs and will change battery to that as soon as I find the best fit. I hope to start assembly next week sometime and hopefully I can get the chassis done in a couple days. Body will take a little while, I am thinking of an unique scheme.
  24. Your engine isn't gummed up is it? Yep, that's all the wands do. Power to starter motor and glow plug. The brush hoods could be full of dirt and grime causing the brushes to hang, or they could be worn enough it doesn't have the torque to turn over the nitro motor.
  25. When I was a teen in the 80s I out in the "country". Tower was my local hobby shop. I ordered my stuff COD, charge on delivery. I remember working all summer to get enough for a hornet kit, battery, and charger. I didn't have enough for a transmitter at that time and my brother let me use one of his extra units. Fast forward 35 or so years, I'm retired from the US military and working in one of the last remaining family owned shops in the state, Hayes Hobby House, store has been in the same location for 50 years this year. Mr. Hayes is the train expert, Ms. Hayes helps him with the trains, his son Allan is the rc aircraft and car expert. Talking with them about the old days is a lot of fun. Now it's all Traxxas, a couple ECX, and an Axial kit or two. We can't seem to give away a lot most of the time. If you would like I can take a picture of his HO train layout. It took him about 5 years to finish.
