Front gearbox is pretty tight as is so it's not needed there on my particular car, though i did need them on the rear which I've mostly put back together now, turns out I'm missing a few bearings as well so I've put them where i can for now, front end rolls smoothly like a skateboard basically despite keeping the plastic bushing on one side on the diff outdrive & that's with the axles in place so i certainly cleaned it up well enough. Thankfully figured out a method to stop the c clips from bouncing into the room having a generic store brand cleaning wipe right above it as i pushed it outwards with a small screwdriver & flathead bit screwdriver. As for the bodyshell & wing's paint i don't think it's polycarbonate paint at all but it did bite into the lexan pretty well. I'll take a picture later when im back home of how the inside of the bodyshell looks, it's properly thick on there.

tamiya fox Original Fox restoration question - What do I do?
Miniz1994 replied to Reliver's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Upgrade the electronics to at minimum imo a 2.4 ghz radio & receiver. A new 7.2v nimh pack & charger or go with like a hobbywing 1060 esc & a 2s lipo + lipo charger for some more speed & torque. And maybe go through it cleaning up the gearbox and put in some ball bearings if it's not already been done. I'm in the process of doing this too a Vintage Tamiya boomerang here myself. Maybe change oil in the shocks & some new wheels & tires if they are dry rotted or slip in the rim. -
Ofc i wont trust the vintage radio gear, i got a 2.4 radio & receiver from my brushless stampede to borrow when I'm running this. I did try it with the wheels off indoors with a radio i got sitting around and it seemed to run ok as is but very wobbly with how worn out the plastic bushings were on each corner which now have been replaced by ball bearings. Though the servo arm is actually too short to reach the end of the mechanical esc so it won't do full speed forward. The diff cups are pretty stuck on there as is without the c clip with how snugly it fits into the splines, it's difficult to push in place as well so I'll take my chances there & at worst have to pull it apart & replace some more parts. Don't think i can actually pull it out from that side without risking cracking the gearbox housing, creaked pretty good before i realized there was a tiny c clip beneath the grime & dust the first time around, thought it was held in place by just friction similar too the TL01 clones i got, where they literally can just fall out if you don't have the dogbones & suspension in place. Might try to salvage the bodyshell with rubber paint on the outside if i can't get the paint off, it's on backorder it seems in two stores in Sweden at the distributor the stores use. (Got no physical ID until the end of July here.) So i can't order from outside of Sweden atm. Not in a rush to finish this really so i can wait a bit for that stuff to come into stores in Sweden as i can work on & run other stuff. Though i do need to clear the kitchen table if I'm gonna do some soldering in there & finish putting together the PS4. As for electronics I'm gonna put in a Traxxas xl5 from the stampede & probably swap the battery connector too an xt60, servo seems alright if a bit slow. Or just use an adapter with a Traxxas to xt60 or deans plug if i decide to go the lazy route. And then run a 2s lipo once i find one that's shaped like it would fit without being too long or wide. Did test run it like this once so far with the 8.4v pack i got sitting around before i got the rest of the ball bearings i needed to start working on it moves alright with 8.4v & the motor in there, dont know if its a stock 540 or a modified motor, it looks like a regular 540 at least. Also needs a chassis & front bumper as they have cracked off on the rear mounts, only the front screw for the bumper remains, but when i got it as you can see in the previous pic & the one with the body on in the electronics waste container at the recycling facility we swing by a lot at work. The bumper was held in place by electrical tape. Will probably try to strip the paint off the wheels as well, it's a bit odd with green wheels, yellow wing & orange body shell.

Is it ok putting the front gearbox back together without the c-clips because one just bounced off my face while i was in the kitchen working on putting ball bearings in the front end & cleaning it. It's just gone, I've looked for 8 minutes before i stopped crawling around on the floor here. Pic is from first day bringing it home, did also post it on Reddit a bit ago. Body is hand painted with some sort of model paint & isn't coming off easily with gasoline & scrubbing, would WD40 work ? Hesitated buying that because the can of WD40 i can buy near my job is the giant 400 ml one. Wing faded slightly because i went with alcohol and it still didn't remove the paint.
