Made my first attempt in redesigning the white disc wheels on my TD4. Not completely there but I think I've got the direction. Anyway I will try other designs in the next days.

Thank you! I think the PS-48 suits the body form very well. -
Get well soon @Ferruz!

Aeroberts Project Thread - Currently a Top Force chassis
Aerobert replied to Aerobert's topic in General discussions
Long time nothing posted in my own project thread. But now I've (almost) finished the build of my TD4 Super Avante. The build started this time in a different way as usual as I first done the body or at least the most of it. The plan was to adapt the design of the P-47 Thunderbolt as I think the Super Avante body has some visual connections to those planes. The body was cut, sanded and masked and then sprayed with a few thin layers of PS-48 Silver anodized aluminum followed by black. After removing some of the masking tape I sprayed some PS-34 bright red backed with white and again black. After removing the protective film I had some dilemma as the layers of PS-48 weren't thick enough and the result doesn't remindes me on a WW2 fighter plane anymore. The first thing I though of was the McLaren F1 cars from the Kimi Räikkönnen era. So I decided to set some accents with black Oracal 751C car vinyl around the recesses on the side pots and the nose. In the end the disappointment of the partial insufficient coverage is gone and I like the outcome very much. The build of the chassis was fun and very smooth. I had directly installed universals an the front axle, the slipper clutch, the aluminum diff nuts and the metal bevel gears. The plan was to install a brushless motor which I have i stock but due to the cable routing it is impossible to fit. Therefore currently an older 12T brushed motor is installed. The first run at very warm weather around 30°C was fun but short. After about 5-6 minutes the esc (WP1060) shut down due to thermal problems. At that time the motor was already very hot. I need to think about a better air flow inside the car. Currently everything is very tight which has the pleasant benefit that even when car was very dusty on the outside there was almost no dirt inside the car. The downside are the thermal problems. Maybe I will cut some vent holes in the body. Another challenge on this chassis is the lack of space inside. with a standard racing pack everything is very tight. I have some slightly problems to fit the Sanwa receiver in it as it collides with the clip which put the steering together. Currently I'm thinking of removing Paranoid Perry and change to shorty Lipos for this car. The car itself handles very well. It's smooth and suggested that it will handle a lot more power than 12 brushed turns on 2S lipo. So I will increase my search for a brushless motor with enough power and a suitable cable routing for a reasonable price. Additionally I will do something with the wheels. The kit wheels are now on my Dirt Trasher and look great on it. The white wheels are looking a bit odd, so I've ordered a sheet of bright red vinyl and some metallic silver grey. I have something in mind but I have to see if I can realize it. But here are some more pic of the for now finished car... Here you can see the dark spots where the PS-48 didn't cover enough and also a close up of the vinyl sticker. The black 'winglet' behind the canopy is painted: I'm currently unsure about the fenders. On one side..., but on the other... Was unsure where to cut the wing, so I didn't cut it at all: The body post still needs to be cut. -
Finished my TD4 Super Avante and had a first short run. It was very warm day today and the air flow inside the car seems to be improvable. So after about five to six minutes running on short grass the 1060 ESC shut down. But those five minutes show me the potential of the car and the ability to take more power and speed (currently running a 12T brushed motor). Very smooth car.

Thank you. When I first peel off the protective film I thought the paint job ruined the body. There are some areas where the translucent silver did not cover enough and black shines through a bit. Also the transitions between red and silver are not as good as I hope plus some bleeding. My plan was to do a P-47 Thunderbolt adaption which was cancelled as the painting result reminds me more of a McLaren F1 car from the 2000s. I set some black highlights with black plotter foil and a very reduced sticker usage. Also do some black lining on the colour transitions. Finally I'm very happy with the outcome.

What is the #1 thing you hate about Tamiya?
Aerobert replied to Ann3x's topic in General discussions
I wouldn't say I'm a fan boy. But I would say RC related Tamiya is my hobby. I've build other kits from MST or owned other brands like Kyosho or Losi but Tamiya gives me the most fun. I can go and buy a kit for around 75€ and build a hobby grade car, put in a receiver I have in the spare box or "borrow" it from another car on the shelf, put a battery in and have a runner. I know it's not high spec but it is not what I'm expecting. I can get a touring car for 100€ with a pretty body and do the same. And both a acceptable runners. Again, not high end but fun. I have no issues to cut a DT-02 straight in the middle into two halfs to build something different as I know it will probably not kill the driving dynamics (completely) and if so I will order a new tub for around 10€. This makes this hobby affordable and give me the fun I think I want from it. And if Tamiya release something I don't like or what is too expensive for me I'm happy to pass it on and don't think about it. But to be honest if I had so much to complain about and so many things to be annoyed of like you post in the recent past I would have another hobby or at least another brand. -

I hate nothing about Tamiya. This is my hobby and it's meant to be fun and relaxing. If I ever realize that I hate something about it I will stop immediately and do something else. -
I would go with the Top Force damper mounts 9804987. Regarding the Jazrider steering: I've mounted one in my Top Force. There were no issues with installation and the appearance was quite good, had the red one. Can't say anything about driving performance as I sold the car almost directly after finishing it.

Thank you. It's already getting better. Stupidity was definitely the main reason for my accident but there are some things I will never learn I guess.

Due to an incident which involved me and a stair which lead to a injured foot I had a more spare time then expected today. As gardening was no option today I've continued building the TD4 chassis. That's the progress so far: Looks like a car already.

An additional differential nut as on my first order I somehow just ordered one. And a set of metal bevel gears to justify the postage.

#42215, 70 durometer is for mineral based damper oil. #42214, 50 durometer is for silicon based damper oil.

The Tamiya Super Avante #58696 Information and Pictures
Aerobert replied to Mechanic AH's topic in General discussions
What would be the best pinion size range for the TD4 with slipper clutch? Planned motor is either 12 turns brushed or 3000kv brushless. The manual says 16-31T. But that range is a bit wide. Any suggestions? I could get a set with pinions from 17T - 22T. Running would be on short grass and dirt but no high speed.- 1173 replies

Some further bits further bits for the TD4 build: slipper clutch, X-rings and some green slime. Never used that but as the shocks are inside the chassis I'd like to have them as leak-proof as possible. And a can of PS-5 which is always good to have. What's the reason the kit spur gear is module 0.6 and the slipper spur is 48dp?

I will keep it as it is. It's not finished yet and will get some extensive stickers. As it will be a runner and pretty sure land on its shell some times it's okay. I will make a new one as I can get the body kit for €27. Or waiting for a nice after market body.

You can find the body manual on Tamiya.de: https://www.tamiya.de/tamiya_de/kategorien/rc-modellbau/rc-autos/rc-strassenfahrzeuge-onroad-2wd-4wd/1-10-rc-opel-calibra-v6-cliff-tt-01e-300058701-de.html Scroll down to downloads and choose the Opel Calibra Cliff Beiblatt. Unfortunately it doesn't mention the wheels. But here is a link to Tamico who are listing the Calibra Cliff wheel: https://tamico.de/Tamiya-19335859-Felgen-grau-26mm-4-Cliff-Calibra

Paint the Super Avante body. Unfortunately I've sprayed too less PS-48 before I've sprayed black. Last time I used PS-48 I've sprayed too much, now too less. Next time it should be okay. Now the shell looks some kind of dirty. Good from far but far from good, as they say. In the end it's not too bad as I need a runner body anyway and it somehow fits the concept.
